PLATFORM ATTACHMENT FOR A STROLLER

This invention relates to the field of stroller
attachments, particularly a platform attachment for wheeled
stroller units.
Conventional strollers are designed to carry and
transport one infant. While double strollers are known, they
are'expensive and often cumbersome. They do not address the
problem of occasionally carrying an infant along with an
older child who is beyond the stroller stage, but still young
enough to require close attention or assistance when
travelling.
The present invention is therefore concerned with an
attachment for a conventional wheeled stroller that addresses
this concern.
According to the present invention there is provided
a platform device for a child stroller, said stroller having
a front end and a rear end, a pair of front wheels and a pair
of rear wheels, a frame carrying a seat on the wheels and
having a handle at the rear end thereof, said platform device
comprising a platform, means for mounting the platform on the
frame rearwardly of the seat and forwardly of the handle and
support means for supporting a rear portion of the platform.
In the drawings, which illustrate an embodiment of
the invention:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a child's stroller with

one embodiment of the invention fastened thereto.
Figure 2 is a side view of the stroller and
attachment.
In the drawings like characters of reference indicate
corresponding parts in the different figures.
Referring to the drawings, a conventional stroller is
shown generally at 10. The stroller has a single seat 12,
supported on a frame 13. The frame as a main frame component
14 with two elongate sides 16 that extend from a transverse
handle 18 at the rear of the stroller down across opposite
sides of the seat 12 to the bottom, front of the stroller
where they are joined by a cross member 20. At the front of
the stroller, the frame component 14 carries two wheels 22.
Two additional side members 24 of the frame extend from a
position above the seat down to the rear where the carry rear
wheels 26. The members 24 are connected to the sides 16 of
component 14 by pivots 28. The rear wheels 26 are mounted on
a common, transverse axle 30.
A further frame member 32 in the form of a
horizontal, U-shaped hoop is connected to the top ends of the
side members 24 and to the side members 16 midway along their
length.
This type of stroller is generally constructed with a
disengageable or collapsible frame component allowing the
stroller to fold for storage purposes. In that the stroller
construction is conventional, it will not be described in

2033896

further detail.
Attached to the stroller is an attachment 34
according to the present invention. This attachment includes
a platform 36 mounted on the axle 30 by staples 38. The
platform extends from below the rear of the seat 12
rearwardly to a position just ahead of the handle 18. To
support the platform at the rear, so that neither the
platform nor the stroller as a whole will tip backwardly,

there is a castor wheel 40 mounted on the platform, towards
the back.
The platform attachment on the stroller provides a
space for a second child to stand, behind the seat 12 and
ahead of the handle 18. The standing child may grip the back

of the seat or the frame of the stroller for support.
While one embodiment of the platform attachment has
been described in the foregoing and illustrated in the
accompanying drawings, it is to be understood that other
embodiments are possible within the scope of the invention.

The precise nature of the attachment and the manner in which
it is mounted on the stroller will vary according to the
structural details of the stroller itself. It will be
appreciated that the castor wheels may be replaced with other
support means for supporting the platform against tipping

rearwardly. Where desired, additional castors may be
installed for stability purposes.
