English Abstract

This invention relates to a new and improved apparatus suitable for the safe support and
retention of a wide range of trigger operated glue guns of varying sizes and shapes. A
vertical wooden support member containing several channel like openings is orthogonally
attached to a horizontal base. Forwardly of the vertical wooden support member, the
base contains a semicircular recessed area which provides lateral stability and automatic
positioning of the glue gun. A ceramic tile located forward of the vertical support member
is used to catch hot glue dripping from the gun and increase the weight of the present
invention for enhanced horizontal stability during use.

Claims

Note: Claims are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

CLAIMS
The embodiment of the invention for which an exclusive privilege is
claimed are defined as follows:
What is claimed Is:
1. A glue gun holder for the safe holding of a range of shapes
and sizes of trigger operated electric glue guns comprising:
. A vertical wooden member containing three channel like
openings orthogonally attached to a horizontal base and

. A recessed area whose diameter borders on the front end
of the horizontal base which provides lateral stability
to the glue gun, allows electric cord movement, ergonomic
access and easy positioning of glue guns and

. a ceramic tile mounted rearward of the vertical support
member to catch hot dripping glue and provide extra
weight to the horizontal base to prevent horizontal
motion of the device.

2. A glue gun holder as claimed in claim 1, wherein the vertical
wooden member has a plurality of channel like openings.
3. A glue gun holder as claimed in claim 1, wherein the recessed
area is semi-circular.

Description

Glue Gun Holder

The present invention provides a new and improved glue gun holder
device capable of safely securing a glue gun between uses that
overcome disadvantages in the prior art.
There are a multitude of electric glue guns capable of dispensing
hot liquid glue known in the marketplace. A persistent problem for
users of this product is what do you do with the glue gun between
uses? It is necessary to safely retain the glue gun since it has a
very hot tip through which hot glue drips. The hot glue can
potentially injure the operator or surrounding media. In prior art,
some attempts have been made to provide plastic, wire or other
holding arrangements to maintain the glue gun in a generally
upright position. There have been drawbacks associated with these
attempts. Lateral motion of the glue gun, accidental power cord
movement, resting of the unit on a non-level surface or inattention
while placing the glue gun in a holder could easily cause the glue
gun to tip over.
The prior art did not provide a means within a single holder of
easily and safely storing a large range of shapes and sizes of glue

guns and safely catching hot dripping glue.
Examples of prior art include U.S. Patent NO. 4,730,799 to Foss in
which a glue gun organizer is set forth. This device has
disadvantages in the complexity of construction and number of parts

206~274
required compared to the present invention.
United States Patent No. 4,333,623 to May, outlines a device
constructed of steel. This unit does not provide an easily
cleanable surface for hot glue as in the present invention and it
requires welding which is a more expensive assembly technique then
the present invention utilizes. United States Patent No. 4,998,698
to Martinson has disadvantages in the more complex construction
required, and the difficulty in providing horizontal support to a
range of glue gun sizes due to the constant spacing between the
legs. The present invention overcomes this problem by providing a
variable spacing arrangement in its vertical wooden support member
to accept the various glue gun sizes.
To overcome disadvantages of the prior art, it is the primary
object of the present invention to provide a device for the
efficient holding of a multitude of sizes and shapes of glue guns.
In one aspect of the invention, a vertical wooden support member
containing several channel like openings, appropriately sized and
shaped, allows the holding of a multitude of glue gun designs
including small glue guns in the 10-15 watt range. A semi-circular
recessed area located in the horizontal base can provide lateral
stability to a glue gun, space for the electric cord to move and
prevent inadvertant tipping of the gun, and allow
automatic, accurate placement of a glue gun device. A ceramic tile
100 catches dripping glue and increases the weight of the device to
help resist horizontal movement of the appratus.
The invention having been generally described is further

exemplified by drawings which illustrate preferred embodiments in
which,

110 Figure 1 is an isometric view of the embodiment.
Figure 2 is an isometric view of a glue gun resting in the
embodiment.
Figure 3 is an orthographic side view of the embodiment.
Figure 4 is an orthographic top view of the embodiment.

120 Figure 5 is an orthographic view of the end of the embodiment.
Figure 6 is an orthographic view of the end of the embodiment.
The figures show a wooden base 8 rigidly and perpendicularily
connected to a vertical wooden member 10 at approximately the
midpoint of the horizontal base 8. There are three channel like

130 openings 12, formed in vertical member 10, to provide vertical and
horizontal support to a glue gun 14, which are available in various
sizes and shapes. The vertical wooden member 10 is positioned such
that the center of gravity of glue gun 14 is toward the front end
28, of horizontal base 8. When the glue gun handle is located in

140 semicircular recess 16, contact is made with the horizontal base 8,
it is slid forward until stop point 18 is reached. The glue gun
14, would now be automatically positioned to rest in the
appropriate channel like opening 12. This automatic positioning
feature provided by stop point 18, makes it mich easier for the

150 operator to place the glue gun 14 into vertical wooden member 10.
Furthermore, semicircular recess 16 is so located that glue gun 14,

is ergonomically located and therefore very easy for the human hand

to grasp or release. Smaller versions of glue gun 14 can be
positioned on horizontal wooden base 8, and easily located in the

appropriate channel like opening 14. A ceramic tile 20, is firmly
160
attached to horizontal wooden base 8, bordering on rear end 22,
side 24, side 26 and the rearward intersection of vertical wooden
support 10, and horizontal wooden member 8. Ceramic tile 20,
provides aneasily cleanable surface to catch hot dripping glue from
glue gun discharge nozzle 32, which is tilted downward while
170
resting. Ceramic tile 20 is suitably sized to provide extra weight
on the wooden base 8 to prevent potential movement during
operation.
From the description of the preferred embodiments it is seen that
a new and improved glue gun holder has been developed. The design
180
features of this invention ensure it can be efficiently produced,
used reliably, protect the user and surroundings from hot glue and
safely store glue guns of various sizes and shapes. It will fulfil
a long felt, but unfulfilled need for this device by craftspeople,
artisans, hobbyists and members of the general public.
190
Although only a single embodiment of the present invention has been
described and illustrated the present invention is not limited to
the features of thie embodiment, but includes all variations and
modifications defined within the scope of the claims.
