English Abstract

ABSTRACT
The invention relates to an apparatus for the filling with a
free-flowing product, more particularly a liquid, of a folding
box container (4) closed at one end, more particularly at an end
equipped with a pouring means or a closure, and for the closing
of the containers (4) at the other end, the apparatus comprising
an endless conveyor (12) rotating in a vertical plane and having
outwardly open compartments into which the containers (4) can be
introduced with their ends open in the outward direction by a
preceding transfer unit (13), the endless conveyor (12) conveying
the containers (4) in steps below a fixed periodically opening
product outlet (18) disposed in the upper zone of the conveyor,
and from the product outlet (18) to fixed closure elements (19)
disposed in said upper zone, and thereafter to an outlet station
(23) which is disposed in the lower zone of the conveyor and
which lowers the compartments (4) from the compartments by means
of removal and transfer elements (23a) and transfers the
containers to a removal conveyor (24).
Fig. 1 is intended for the Abstract.

CLAIMS
1. An apparatus for the filling with a free-flowing product,
more particularly a liquid, of a folding box container (4) closed
at one end, more particularly at an end equipped with a pouring
means or a closure, and for the closing of the containers (4) at
the other end, the apparatus comprising and endless conveyor (12)
rotating in a vertical plane and having outwardly open
compartments into which the containers (4) can be introduced with
their ends open in the outward direction by a preceding transfer
unit (13), the endless conveyor (12) conveying the containers (4)
in steps below a fixed periodically opening product outlet (18)
disposed in the upper zone of the conveyor, and from the product
outlet (18) to fixed closure elements (19) disposed in said upper
zone, and thereafter to an outlet station (23) which is disposed
in the lower zone of the conveyor and which lowers the
compartments (4) from the compartments by means of removal and
transfer elements (23a) and transfers the containers to a removal
conveyor (24), characterized in that the endless conveyor (12)
takes the form of a compartmented wheel at whose upper vertex the
product outlet (18) for the direct filling of the containers (4)
retain in the compartments of the compartmented wheel is
disposed, and each compartment (2) has compartment walls (12a',
12a") which are disposed in succession in the direction of
rotation of the compartmented wheel and of which at least one
wall (12a') is adjustable in relation to the other wall (12a").

- 11 -
An apparatus according to claim 1, characterized in that the
compartment wall (12a') which leads in the direction of rotation
of the compartmented wheel is adjustable.
3. An apparatus according to claims 1 or 2, characterized in
that the conveyor (12) has two identical compartmented wheels
(12a, 12b) which are disposed parallel one beside the other and
into whose compartments the arriving containers (4) are pushed
alternately by means of the transfer unit (13).
4. An apparatus according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterized
in that disposed upstream of the compartmented wheel (12) is a
vertical stepwise driven mandrel wheel (5) having radially
disposed shaping mandrels (5a) of rectangular cross-section on to
which the folding box containers (4), still open at both ends and
forming tube portions (2), can be slipped and at whose periphery
fixed folding and closing tools (6-11) and possibly applicator
tools for the application of a pouring means and/or closure are
disposed, the transfer unit (13) disposed upstream of the
compartmented wheel (12) having a pusher element by which the
folding box container (4), closed at one end, can be pushed via a
plate (12c) disposed alongside a compartment of the compartmented
wheel (12) or between two adjacent compartments of two
compartmented wheels (12a, 12b) can be pushed into the
compartments in alignment therewith.
5. An apparatus according to one of claims 1 to 4, characterized
in that the compartmented wheel (12) and/or the mandrel wheel (5)
is or are mounted overhung.

- 12 -
6. An apparatus according to one of claims 1 to 5, characterized
in that a slipping-on unit (3) for the tube portions (2) is
disposed in the zone of the lower vertex of the mandrel
wheel (5).
