English Abstract

Chair mount for a spring activated tilting movement between a seat and a
turning column of a chair, being connected
respectively with the seat mount (2) and the frame (3) of the mechanism, where
a rectilinear torsion spring (1) preferably having a
square cross section, in each end being secured to pipes (5, 6) surrounding
the spring (1), where the second pipe (5) extending
from one end of the spring (1) at least to beyond the middle of the spring
(1), at which point the second pipe (5) is connected with
the frame (3) which again is connected with the turning column (4) of the
chair, the first pipe (6) extending from the other end of
the spring (1) to near the second pipe (5) and here being connected with one
end of a stop arm (7) of which the other end with a
prestress is abutting against the seat mount of the chair by intersection of
an adjustable bolt, and further that the seat mount (2)
being turnably journalled around the second pipe (5).

CLAIMS
1. Chair mount for a spring activated tilting movement
between a seat and a turning column of a chair, being
connected respectively with a seat mount and a frame of
the chair mount, comprising a rectilinear torsion spring
of a square cross section, each end of said spring being
respectively secured to first and second pipes
surrounding the spring, characterized in a diameter of
the second pipe being substantially the same as a
diameter of the first pipe, said first and second pipes
being coaxial and together forming a laterally split
pipe, said second pipe extending from a first end of the
spring at least to beyond a middle of the spring, at
which point the second pipe is connected with the frame,
said frame being connected with the turning column of the
chair, the first pipe extending from a second end of the
spring and abutting the second pipe, the first pipe being
connected with a first end of a stop arm, a second end of
which with a prestress is connected to the seat mount of
the chair by an adjustable bolt, said seat mount being
turnably journalled around the second pipe.

Chair Mechanism
The present invention is rE:lated to a chair mechanism
for biased tilting movement between the seat and the base column,
connected respectively with the seat portion and the frame of the
chair mechanism.
Throughout the passed years tilting mechanisms or chair
to mechanisms comprising torsion springs, have been used extensibly
especially for office chairs and such and also have proved to be
satisfactory with their small dimensj.ons, simplicity in adjust
ment and good. reliability. Partly this is achieved by a recti
linear torsion spring, usually clampEad in both ends which then
is can be turned in relation to each other and the spring being
surrounded by pipes.
With the present invention is found that this structure
can be substantially simplified and especially the same
t _ ..
advantages are achieved by use of a laterally split pipe in which
z° both pipe segments are coaxial and have substantially the same
diameter.
The chair mechanism, according to the present
invention, comprises a chair mount for a spring activated tilting
movement between a seat and a turning column of a chair, being
zs
connected respectively with the seat mount and the frame of the
mechanism, and a rectilinear torsion spring preferably having a
square cross section, each end thereof being secured to pipes
surrounding the spring, characterized in the second pipe
3o extending from one end of the spring at least to beyond the
middle of the spring, at which point thE: second pipe is connected
with the frame which itself is connected with the turning column
of the chair, the first pipe extending from the other end of the
spring to near the second pipe and here being connected with one
end of a stop arm of which the other end with a prestress is
abutting against the seat mount of the chair by intersection of
an adjustable bolt, and further that the seat mount being
turnably journalled around the second pipe.

The drawing discloses in Fig. 1 schematically the chair
mechanism according to the present invention in a top view, Fig.
2 discloses a front view, Fig. 3 discloses a ground view and Fig.
4 discloses a side view of the chair mechanism according to the
present invention.
A torsion spring 1 having a square cross section, is
arranged within and at both ends secured to a pipe, respectively
l0 5 and 6. One of the pipes 6 is connected with a stop arm 7
abutting against a seat mount 2. Hy a means of a suitable grip
the spring pressure of the torsion spring can be adjusted between
the mount 2 .and the arm 7. The other pipe 5 is directly connected
with the frame 3 mounted to the column 4 of the chair.lThe seat
mount 2 is arranged to be journal.led around the other pipe 5.
The force path is acco:cding to the above described
details, to be found from the seat mount 2, through the arm 7 and
to the pipe 6, further from hear tlhrough the torsion spring 1 to
the other pipe 5 and to the column or fundament of the chair
2° through the frame 3.
