English Abstract

A hat pouch inconspicuously positioned in the interior top
portion of a hat is disclosed. The hat pouch comprises: a bag
having an opening; bag closure means which is preferably a
velcro TM strip, and; bag anchor means to attach the bag to the
interior top portion of the hat. Access to the pouch may be
either through a cut in the top portion of the hat or
alternatively, from the interior of the hat. In a preferred
aspect of the invention the bag anchor means is a velcro TM
strip. In another aspect of the invention, in which a hat is
provided having a pouch therein, the bag anchor means is
stitching to the hat. The hat pouch may be utilized to store a
folded rain shield for the hat, or other small objects which the
wearer has no convenient place to carry.

Claims

1) A pouch for a hat comprising:
a bag having an opening;
bag closure means to releasably close the opening, and;
bag anchor means to attach the bag to the interior of a top
end portion of the hat.
2) A pouch for a hat as in claim 1 further comprising a rain
repellant shield which can be folded into the pouch, said shield
capable of covering the exterior of the hat and having hat
positioning and holding means around the periphery thereof.
3) A pouch as in claim 1 wherein the bag anchor means comprises a
velcro TM strip extending along a top back portion of the pouch.
4) A pouch as in claim 3 further comprising a velcro TM strip
extending along a bottom back portion of the pouch.
5) A pouch as in claim 1 therein the pouch is fabricated from a
pliable and durable sheet of material.
6) A pouch as in claim 5 wherein the sheet is a nylon fabric.
7) A pouch as in claim 5 wherein the sheet comprises a top
portion, a central portion, and a bottom portion, said bottom
portion being folded up, and having opposite peripheral side
portions fastened to corresponding side portions of the central
portion thereunder; the top portion being folded downwardly over

the upturned bottom portion and having releaseable fastening
means holding it thereto.
8) A pouch as in claim 7 wherein the releaseable fastening means
holding the downturned top portion of the pouch to the upturned
bottom portion thereof comprises a velcro TM strip.
9) A hat having a pouch comprising:
a bag having an opening;
bag closure means to releasably close the opening, and;
bag anchor means to attach the bag to the interior of a top
end portion of the hat.
10) A hat having a pouch as in claim 9 further comprising a rain
repellant shield which can be folded into the pouch, said shield
capable of covering the exterior of the hat and having hat
positioning and holding means around the periphery thereof.
11) A hat as in claim 10 wherein the bag anchor means comprises a
velcro TM strip extending along a top back portion of the pouch.
12) A hat as in claim 11 further comprising a velcro TM strip
extending along a bottom back portion of the pouch.
13) A hat as in claim 9 therein the pouch is fabricated from a
pliable and durable sheet of material.
14) A pouch as in claim 13 wherein the sheet is a nylon fabric.

15) A pouch as in claim 14 wherein the sheet comprises a top
portion, a central portion, and a bottom portion, said bottom
portion being folded up, and having opposite peripheral side
portions fastened to corresponding side portions of the central
portion thereunder; the top portion being folded downwardly over
the upturned bottom portion and having releaseable fastening
means holding it thereto.
16) A hat as in claim 15 wherein the releaseable fastening means
holding the downturned top portion of the pouch to the upturned
bottom portion thereof comprises a velcro TM strip.
17) A hat as in claim 9 wherein the top portion of the hat has a
cut therethrough providing access to the opening in the pouch and
the bag closure means therebelow, to concurrently releasably
close the opening in the bag and the cut in the hat.
18) A hat as in claim 17 wherein the cut forms a flap which is
held in a closed position by a velcro TM fastener.
19) A hat as in claim 17 wherein the bag closure means is a
zipper on the top end portion of the hat.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to hat rain protection and more
particularly to a hat having a concealed pouch therein which can
be used to store a folded transparent plastic rain shield therein
or alternatively, other small objects.
People have traditionally worn hats. Ornamental hats have
been the mode with women. Hats have been a significant part of
military uniforms. Cowboy and Western hats have been
functionally useful in shading the wearer from direct sunlight.
However, there has been a problem. ~ressy hats are not usually
water resistant. Although hats can be made water resistant the
problem is that a water resi~tant hat does not breathe. The top
of the head, richly supplied with blood, quickly gets hot when it
is insulated from the surrounding air by a hat which neither air
nor water can penetrate.
Police officer~ are 6upplied with a largely water resist~nt
hat. In the past it has been necessary to make a hat water
resistant in order to prevent it from being ruined in the rain.
The problem with such a hat is that it is uncomfortable to wear.
There is a need for a convenient means to shield a stylish
decorative and functional breathing hat from the potential damage
of a soaking rain. There is also a need for a stylishly attired
individual to have a place to store relatively ~mall object~.

For example, a woman attired in a dress may not wish to carry ~
purse or alternatively, a man wearing tight Western wear may not
have a pocket in which he can comfortably and inconspicuously
carry his keys or cigarettes.
One aspect of this invention provides for a pouch for a hat
comprising: a bag having an opening; bag closure means to
releasably close the opening; and bag anchor means to attach the
bag to the interior of a top end portion of the hat.
Another aspect of this invention provides for a hat having
the above described pouch therein. An alternative embodiment of
this hat comprises ~ cut in the top portion of the hat, said cut
providing access to the opening in the bag.

invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art from
the following discuss~on, taken in conjunction with the
accompanying drawings, in which:

The following is a discussion and description of the
preferred specific embodiments of this invention, such being ~ade
with reference to the drawings, whereupon the same reference
numerals are used to indicate the same or similar parts and/or
structure. It should be noted that such discussion and
description is not meant to unduly limit the scope of the
invention.
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Turning now to the drawings and more particularly to figure
1 we have a perspective view of a Western hat 18 showing a hat
pouch in the interior top portion 22 of the hat. Figure 2 shows
the preferred form of the hat pouch which i6 a bag 24 having an
opening 26 through which to place an object ~uch a~ a rain ~hield
28 (shown in figure 4) into the pouch 20. The pouch 20 iB
fabricated from a pliable and durable ~heet of material ~uch a~ a

nylon fabric 30. In the preferred embodiment the bag 24 i8 made
from a rectangular sheet of material 30 having a top portion 32,
a central portion 34 and a bottom portion ~6. The bottom portion
36 is folded up over the central portion 34 having opposite
peripheral side portions 38 fastened to corresponding side
portions 38 of the central portion 34. The top portion 32 is
folded downwardly o~er the upturned bottom portion 36. Bag
closure means is a releaseable fastening means which is
preferably a velcro TM strip 40.
Figure 3 shows the pouch shown in figure 2 from the rear. A
~ag anchor means which is preferably velcro TM strips is run
along the width of the pouch. Matingly grippable strips (not
shown) are positioned in the interior top portion 22 of the hat
18. Alternatively the bag 24 could be anchored to the hat by
sewing it therein as illustrated in figure ~.
Figure 4 shows a police officer's hat 18 covered by a rain
repellant shield 28 which is a clear vinyl plastic having ~ hat
positioning and holding means 42 therearound. The hat
positioning and holding mean6 42 i6 preferably an elasticized
draw string 42 which runs around the periphery of the rain shield
28.
Figure 5 shows a perspective view of a hat having a cut 44
through the interior top portion 22 of the hat 18. The cut 44
through the hat 18 provides access to the opening 26 in the pouch

20. In this this embodiment the bag closure means 40 also
releasably closes the cut 44 in the hat 18.
Figure 6 shows yet another embodiment of the hat pouch ~0.
In this embodiment a zipper 46 is used as bag closure means,
releaseably closing the cut 44 in the hat 18.
While the invention has been described with preferred
specific embodiments thereof, it will be understood that this
description is intended to illustrate and not to limit the scope
of the invention, which is defined by the following claims.
