English Abstract

Abstract of the Disclosure
Molten sulfur is converted into solidified pieces
of sulfur, i.e., the product being produced. Some of the
sulfur evaporates during the process, and that evaporated
sulfur is conducted through a cleaner which comprises a bed
of sulfur pieces, whereupon a vaporous sulfur component of
the evaporated sulfur crystallizes on the sulfur pieces.
The sulfur pieces are supplied to the bed from a collection
site for the produced pieces. The sulfur pieces are
periodically or continuously removed form the bed and
combined with the product being produced.

Patent Claims
1. Process for producing pellets from molten products, which are
solidified as pieces, especially as tablets, and in which process
the evaporation products, resulting from the production, are
extracted and a fixed bed, which is used to remove through
crystallization the vaporous component of the product, is
assigned to the extraction flow, wherein
a portion of the lumpy, especially tablet-like products, is used
to form the fixed bed (8).
2. Process, as claimed in claim 1, wherein
the lumpy products of the fixed bed (8) are also used as the end
product.

Process for Producing Pellets from Molten Products
~.
The invention relates to a process for producing pellets from
molten products, which are solidified as pieces, especially as
tablets, and in which process the evaporation products, resulting
from the production, are extracted and a fixed bed, which is
used to remove through crystallization the vaporous component of
the product, is assigned to the extraction flow.
It is well-known that, when sulfur melts are processed into
tablet-shaped pellets, the process exhaust air has to be cleaned
for environmental protection reasons. Said cleaning is done by
introducing into the extraction flow filters or fixed beds made
of materials that contain foreign substances, on which the sulfur
vapor, which is undesired in the exhaust air, settles as
crystals. Sulfur dust is usually collected in filters, which are
usually necessary in any case for the production of fine-grained
material.
The invention proceeds from the knowledge that, when the process
serves the production of lumpy substances, for example,
the production of sulfur in the form of tablets, these tablets ~ -
produced with the process can also be suitable for effecting the
removal by crystallization of the sulfur vapor to be removed from
the waste air. Therefore, the invention proposes that a portion
of the lumpy, especially tablet-like products is used to form the
fixed bed. Excellent cleaning of the waste air can be achieved
with this design, as tests have demonstrated. At the same time
there is the advantage that a subsequent filtration can be
dispensed with. The material of the fixed bed, which consists
only of the pure product itself when the process according to the -~
invention is used, can be re-used as the product following use as
the fixed bed and can be sold. At the same time one must remember -

that the fix~d bed itself is continuously emptied and filled
again with the product, so that the sulfur vapor is continuously
removed by crystallization in an effective manner in the region
of the fixed bed.
The invention is explained with reference to a schema~ic drawing
of an embodiment. The single drawing depicts a system for
producing sulfur tablets. For this purpose sulfur is fed over a
line (1) of a feeder (2), which divides the melt into single
drops and deposits them in the form of drops on a cooling
conveyor (3) made of metal. The feeder (2) is jacketed by a
suction hood (4), which exhibits a suction fitting (5), from
which a suction line (6) runs to a suction fan (7). A fixed bed
(8) is installed into the line (6); said fixed bed serves to let
that still vaporous portion of the sulfur that leaves the hood
(4) crystallize out, in order to clean the waste air.
From the cooling conveyor (3), the table's, solidified on the
right end of the suction hood (4), travel on a conveyor (9) and
from said conveyor into a collecting tank (10). The invention
proposes diverting a portion of the lumpy product, which has the
shape of tablets here and which has accummulated in the
collecting tank (10), and using it, as shown in the schematic ;~
drawing with the dashed line (11), as the material for forming
the fixed bed (8). The sulfur tablets introduced into the fixed
bed (8) are quite suitable for allowing the sulfur vapor to
crystallize out on them. The sulfur tablets in the fixed bed (8)
can be removed continuously or in batches in the direction of the
arrow (12) and replaced by new tablets, which come by the ~upply
route (11). Then the tablets, which are removed in the direction
of the arrow (12) and consist of pure sulfur, can also be ~ -
packaged and sold as the product. Therefore, the bulk of the -
vaporous component of the sulfur, produced in this process, can
be collected and reused before it flows into the waste air.
