English Abstract

An easy clean system for an eavestrough 6 at the eaves of a roof 9 on a
building 7
comprising a chamber 1 connected to an elbow 8 in the eavestrough 6, so that
the system will
extend vertically down along an exterior wall of the building 7 and carry
rainwater away from
the roof 9. A facility 2 within the system is for separating any dirt and
debris 10 that falls
into the rainwater in the eavestrough 6, so that the rainwater will flow
without obstruction
out through the facility 2 and out the downpipe 3 into the drain tile 5.

Claims

Note: Claims are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE PROPERTY
OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:

1. An improved downpipe for a gutter of the eaves of a roof on a building,
said down
pipe comprising a lower portion, and a chamber connecting said lower portion
to said gutter,
wherein said chamber comprises substantially vertical sidewalls and a floor,
wherein said
floor includes an aperture in fluid communication with said lower portion and
wherein said
chamber provides a widened space below the level of said gutter which results
in agitation
of rainwater and debris as said rainwater and debris flow from said gutter to
said lower
portion of the downpipe.

Description

Note: Descriptions are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

CA 02222985 1998-02-18
Description of the Prior Act
Numerous drainage devices have been provided in prior art that are adapted to
carry off
rainwater or sewage from one location to another. While these units may be
suitable for
the particular purpose to which they address, they would not be as suitable
for the
purposes of the present invention as heretofore described.

CA 02222985 1998-02-18
Summary of the Invention
A;primary object of the present invention is to provide an easy clean system
for an
eavestrough that will overcome the shortcomings of the prior art devices.
Another object is to provide an easy clean system for an eavestrough that will
allow dirt
and debris to flow without obstruction from an eavestrough on a roof of a
building into a
down pipe, so that the water can exit freely therefrom.
An additional object is to provide an easy clean system for an eavestrough
that will
separate the dirt and debris from water by a basket and filter partition for
removal from
the down pipe, while access to the down pipe at ground level, will allow a
person to clean
out the dirt and debris that accumulates.

CA 02222985 1998-02-18
A further object is to provide an easy clean system for an eavestrough that is
simple and
easy to use.
A still further objective is to provide an easy clean system for an
eavestrough that is
economical in cost to manufacture.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds.
To the accomplishment of the above related objects, this invention may be
embodied in
the form illustrated in the accompagning drawings, attention being called to
the fact,
however, that the drawings are illustrative only, and that changes may be made
in the
specific construction illustrated and described within the scopes of the
appended claims.

Brief Description Of The Drawing Figures
Various other objects, features and attendant advantages of the present
invention will
become more fully appreciated as the same becomes better understood when
considered
in conjunction with the accompanying drawings; in which like references
characters
designate the same or similar parts throughout the several views, and wherein;

FIGURE 1 and 2 shows the prior art behind a standard eavestrough and downpipe.
The
eavestrough 6 is at the roof 9 eave on a building 7 clogged up with dirt and
debris 10 during
a rainstorm 11.
The Easy Clean System* consists of a chamber 1 connected to the downpipe 3
which extends
vertically down along an exterior wall 7 and carries rainwater away from the
roof 9.
Figure 3 depicts a preferred embodiment which includes a widening of the upper
end of the
downpipe elbow 8. The widening provides a chamber 1 between the eavestrough 6
and the
lower portion of the downpipe elbow 8. The chamber has substantially vertical
sidewalk and
a floor having an aperture in fluid communication with the lower portion of
the downpipe.
The widening of the juncture to the eavestrough in conjunction with the
chamber 1 at the
upper end of the downpipe elbow substantially reduce blockages by leaves or
like debris.
Blockage reduction results from the fact that
(a) the debris collected in the chamber 1 will rest below the level of the
water
in the eavestrough;
(b) water passes vertically downward through debris more easily than
horizontally
through said debris in the eavestrough; and

CA 02222985 1999-08-10
(c) water impacting on the floor of the chamber creates turbulence which will
agitate and dislodge debris.
A facility 2 is for separating any dirt and debris 10 that fall into the
rainwater in the
eavestrough 6, so that the rainwater will flow without obstruction out through
the
downpipes 3.
JJ:mw _~a_

CA 02222985 1998-02-18
The separating facility 2 is a filter partition 13 and 14, extending
horizontally and
vertically within the facility 2.
When the rainwater with dirt and debris 10 enters the facility 2, the
rainwater will
enter into the drain passageway 12 through the filter partition 13 and 14, and
exit
out from the bottom end to downpipe 3.
The dirt and debris 10 remain in the tray surface 16 and is collected in the
basket
17. The mesh wall is fabricated of wire mesh material to keep the dirt and
debris
10 trapped within the tray surface 16, while allowing rainwater to pass
therethrouh and into the drain passageway 12.

CA 02222985 1998-02-18
A basket 17 fits in a removable manner into the facility 2 and onto the tray
16 and
below the downpipe 3 so as to collect dirt and debris 10. The basket 17
includes a
front handle 18 to be gripped by a hand of a person. The basket 17 over the
filter
partition 13 and 14 is of wire mesh to allow any rainwater entering the basket
to
exit through the wire mesh into the drain passageway 12.
The facility 2 has a front overflow outlet 15 in the wall of 2 to allow
rainwater to .
flow out should a build-up of dirt and debris 9 occur in order to alert that .
emptying is required.

While certain novel features of this invention have been shown and descried
are
pointed out in the annexed claims, it is not intended to be limited to the
details
above, since it will be understood that various omissions, modifications,
substitutions and changes in the forms and details of the device illustrated
and in
its operation can be made by those skilled in the art without departing in any
way
from the spirit of the present invention.
Without further analysis, the foregoing will so fully reveal the gist of the
present
invention that others can, by applying current knowledge, readily adapt it for

prior
art, dirty constitute essential characteristics of the generic or specific
aspects of
this invention.
