English Abstract

A harness for rescuing trapped or injured patients
This harness is octagonal shaped with an elongated top and base
a lifting ring is attached to the top and the base splits into a y shaped
beaver tail.
All webbing is sewn into a garment, this holds unit into a single easily
applied rescue
system to be attached to a rescue line.
The rescue sling secures to patient using four quick connect adjustable
buckles,
a Velcro chest strap and a traveling head harness.
It has a removable backboard designed for upper body immobilization.
This invention provides, superior upper body stabilization and control it is
primarily
designed for confined space rescue.

Claims

Note: Claims are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

Claims

This harness is unique to the field of rescuing trapped or injured
victims in that:
1. This harness readies the patient for rescue by securing patient to a half
board, this is accomplished by two upper thigh quick connect straps,
one Velcro upper chest strap, two crisscrossing quick connect upper
body straps, and a traveling head harness, all sewn into a single
garment capable of being used as a lifting or lowering harness.
2. It has a removable backboard with two slots that the head restraining
cradle slides up and down in, this allows for easy and quick
adjustment to a wide range of patient size, and compensates for
patient slippage when victim is being raised or lowered vertically,
minimizing any stress to patients head and spine
3. Its modular in design with two bolt on attachment points built into
backboard and accessed through holes provided in back of harness,
these are for the quick attachment of other rescue aids such as a skid
plate.
4. The claims in 1. 2. And 3. combined in a single rescue harness is
unique to the field of confined space rescue.

5. This harness is a vertical - horizontal rescue system that provides a
high degree of patient control, stabilization and protection which can
be applied as a single rescue system in confined spaces that prior art
can not.
6. The ability of this harness to perform the functions in claim 5. Makes
this harness safer, quicker and easier to use in these types of rescues,
while not impeding its ability to be used for less constricting rescues

SPECIFICATION
This harness relates to "A harness for rescuing trapped or injured patients"
The accepted past practice to rescue victims from a confined or restricted
space has been,
To secure the patient to a lifting harness and extract offering no protection
from injury do
to abrasion or obstructions .
Or if you wanted to protect the patient from injury you would then first have
to secure
them to a rigid support and then attach a separate lifting system over this.
This procedure is very time consuming and complicated requiring at least two
separate
types of rigging.
With my invention I have overcome these disadvantages by constructing a
lifting system
and a backboard into a garment, with an independently moving headharness.
The head restraint slides up and down through slots provided in the backboard,
this
allows the patients body to stay as a unit when the system is being lifted and
compensates
for patient slippage.
Providing superior patient protection while giving a high degree of upper body
stabilization and control.
My invention is also of modular design with two threaded attachment points
built into the
harness backboard, this provides for the quick attachment of a skid plate,
which is
currently being drafted for patent filing.
This modular design is unique to my invention and will provide for a quicker
and easier
use
