Winter Weather Face Mask.
The Winter Weather Face Mask's unic~uene55 and functionality i5 a5 follows. It
is impossible
to purchase comfortable functional winter face protection other than two
limited excep-
tiona. Balaclavas which are difficult to remove when not needed and scarves
which fall
down and can become a choking hazard because of loose ends. I designed this
face mask
keeping in mind it had to be comfortable to wear and easy to put on and take
off. The mask
WM can be made to fit people of all ages.
This face mask stays in place without obstructing Sight. If the wearer i5 too
warm they
can pull it down off their face and wear it a5 a neck warmer without removing
it. It can be
worn in conjunction with any headgear. When removed it can be easily hung
up.Thia mask i5
designed to give maximum coverage with minimum hassles.
The mask can be made from any winter wear fabric. It can be made from one
thickness of
dual-Sided fabrics, or it can be lined. It i5 also possible to construct the
mask out of two
complimentary fabrics.

Skin i5 easily Susceptible to frostbite. This mask greatly reduces the risk of
froet-
bitten ears, cheeks, noses and chins a5 it fits Snugly to the face, and
doesn't fall down.
The mask follows the contours of the face, horizontally covering the ears and
temple
areas Shaping acroSe the cheek bones and over the bridge of the nose.
Vertically it ex-
tends downwards Shaping itself around the chin and jawbones, hugging the neck,
and
without being bulky allows the wearer to Secure their headgear with ease. The
maximum
coverage provided by the mask coupled with the fact that it Stays in place
greatly re-
duceS chances of frost-bite.
An optional or removable front extends downwards to cover the collar bones and
upper
chest area in the front, making a Scarf unnecessary. This Section can be
applied in any
manor or Shape using any Suitable fastener Some examples are; VELC120~, Snaps,
elid-
erS, or zippers.
Another problem Spot ie the base of the Skull between the hat and the coat.
Most peo-

ple Spend a great deal of their time looking at the ground. Cold wind and Snow
quite of-
ten whistle down their backs. This mask forms a barrier to Stop those drafts,
covering
the base of the skull downwards and across the Shoulder blades at the back.
This back
portion can be adapted to any shape or can be attached in any way that someone
in the
industry may think of. Some possible variations are; The back and chest
portions of the
mask can each be one solid piece which i5 permanently attached or i5 removable
if de-
sired. The panels can also be divided into sections. The bottom edges can be
any Shape
to give the mask a decorative effect.
The mask can be secured in place at the back or side and can be done in any
manner using
any fastener. Stretchable portions may be placed about the back and temple
areas.
The front seam begins below the nose leaving an opening for breathing. This
opening al-
lows the wearer to insert things into the mouth without removing the mask. An
optional
mouth cover can be applied. The mouth cover i5 Stitched in place at one Side
of the
mouth opening and Secured shut at the other Side by VELCI~O~ or any other
Suitable
fastener. An additional fastening mechanism i5 placed on the cheek of the Side
that the

mouth cover i5 Stitched on. This will allow the wearer to leave the mouth
cover open or
Shut whichever they prefer. Another option i5 to Sew the mouth hole Shut.
Creating this
concealed breathing space makes it much easier for a person with respiratory
illness to
venture outside on a cold winter day.
There are Ski masks with a Similar face Shape available in neoprene. For
example: U.S.
f atent #1139903 (Edward5), U.S.1'atent #1311088 (Edward5) and U.S.
f atent#4300240(Edward5). Although these ma5k~ have a Similar Shape about the
face they do not have an open mouth option. Also on Some of these designs the
nose sec-
tion goes Straight across whereas the nose Section of my mask i5 arched up and
over the
bridge of the nose giving better coverage. In addition, unlike my design, they
do not extend
past the point where the chin and upper neck meet; the back of these masks
have no ex-
tension to protect the back of the neck and shoulders, and all of the afore
mentioned
masks are designed primarily for skiers. There are a number of face masks and
neck
warmers known, Such as; U.S.1'atent #766963 (Murray) which shows a muffler.

Patent #731135(Scott) Showing a type of ear and neck mechanism. U.S. Patent
#2276612 (EIIiS); U.S. #2573537 (Bouffard) and #3768100 (Golman) all Show
other
forms of protective neck and face wear. U.S. Patent #2023591 (BrotherS/Hetz)
shows
an article of convertible clothing. It claims to be a face mask, an ascot, and
a visor all in
one. The face mask portion of this garment seems to drape off the nose falling
from the
tip of the nose Straight down. This iS not remotely Similar to the mask which
1 have de-
Signed which forma Snugly to the face, chin and neck. When the above mentioned
mask i5
worn in the ascot position it does cover the neck. Other differences in the
two designs are;
the front bib portion of mine i5 optional or removable, mine also protects the
nape of the
neck and Shoulder blades whereas the other does not.
In Summary there are no other mask which offers Such extensive coverage and
versatility.

DETAILED DESGI~If TION OF THE DRAWINGS
#1. The mouth opening in the mask will allow the wearer to insert things into
their
mouths without removing the mask. The mouth opening extends from the nostril
area
downward.
#2. Many people are bothered by Such things aS smog and automobile exhaust
fumes.
My mask offers multiple Solutions to the problems people encounter trying to
breath on
a cold winter day. An optional mouth cover can be applied to the mask or the
mouth
opening can be completely Sewn shut. Forming this concealed breathing Space
around the
mouth allows people to venture outside in cold temperatures. The optional
mouth cover
is sewn onto the main body of the mask beside the mouth opening. VELCROCK~
tabs or
any other Suitable fastener are mounted on both the inside and outside of the
mouth
cover. Respectively fasteners are also placed on the mask one on each Side of
the

mouth opening, one tab will Secure the cover Shut and the other will hold it
open.
#3. The nose Section arcs up and over the bridge of the nose for maximum
coverage
without impairing vision. Noses are very sensitive this mask keeps them
covered, greatly
reducing the chances of frost bite.
#4. The cheeks are one of the most common spots people get frostbite. Most of
the
time people try to combat this with scarves that fall down off the face or
balaclavas
that render the wearer immobile because they can't See and are difficult to
remove when
not needed while the wearer i5 Still outside. With this mask the cheeks are
covered up to
the lower edges of the eye Sockets. The mask shapes itself Snugly across the
cheeks
from the nose to the temple area and stays in place without obstructing vision
while re-
ducing the chances of frost-bite.
#5. if the wearer gets warm and wishes to remove the face mask they can easily
do so
without removing the entire mask. Simply pull it down below the chin and it
converts into

a neck warmer until the wearer needs to cover their face again. The mask can
then be
easily replaced on the face, this minimizes the chances of losing the mask.
#6. The mask curves it'S way up from the bridge of the nose to the temples and
over
the ears. This i5 where the back sections of the mask are attached and from
where the
Securing tabs extend rearward to fasten the mask Shut. The mask fits neatly
under
the edge of any headgear.
#7. The convex Seam that begins at the lower lip and extends downwards, hugs
tightly
to the under part of the chin. This curvature helps to keep the mask
comfortably up on
the face.
#8. The mask curves down the chin without becoming bulky. This allows the
wearer to
easily apply any type of headgear that has an under the chin fastener.
#9. The optional or removable neck portion extends downwards covering the
collar

bones and chest area. This i5 the area at the top of the coat which usually
remains open
and unprotected. With the number of Soar throats that a person can encounter
throughout a winter it i5 best to keep the throat and chest covered . This
mask does
this job very well. This portion can be any Size or Shape and can be applied
any way con-
ceivable using any Suitable fastener.
#10. The back Section of this mask protects the nape of the neck and shoulders
from
drafts and Snow. While outside during the winter people Spend the majority of
their time
looking at the ground. When they bend their necks forward they expose the area
at the
back of their necks between their hat and coat. This exposed area i5 a prime
target for
drifting Snow and cold wind. My mask forms a barrier across the back of the
neck and
Shoulder blades which stops the wind and Snow from entering.
#11. straps extend rearward from the temple area. Theses straps carry the back
Shoulder section(s), closing and Stretching mechanisms. Any conceivable means
of clo-
Sure and elasticity can be applied to the mask.

#12. The back portion of the mask can be Shaped and applied in any conceivable
fashion.
A few poSSibilities are; (a) A three piece back. Two panels of equal Size
extend backwards
from the temple area. The two panels meet at the top of the back portion where
they
are joined by any conceivable fastener. A centre back panel i5 inserted using
fasteners
down either side. (b) The back shoulder cover can be made removable by making
it a sepa-
rate piece which is secured to the carrier tabs by any conceivable means. (c)
The back
Shoulder panel can be one Solid back panel which is attached to one of the
carrier
Straps.
#13. The mask is designed to Split when it goes over the shoulder this
maximizes the
mobility of the wearer.

A BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The unic~uene55 of this masks functions were born from necessity not fashion.
It has
been carefully designed to fulfil both comfort demands and coverage
rec~uirement5. This
mask i5 easy to wear and care for, it i5 a user friendly, product. The
