The invention concerns a temporary surface covering in particular for machines moving on sandy, muddy or marshy ground, such as one with a woven structure (1) formed of warp yarns and weft yarns and whereof the armour is such that each warp yarn is interwoven with the weft yarns along, preferably and more or less, half of the intersections of the armour rows and columns, the warp yarn being down in the remaining intersections, so as to obtain, for each warp yarn, at least a single and tight armour zone followed by a float zone. The invention is characterised in that a second auxiliary woven structure (2) is placed on top and comprises a lap of warp yarns and a lap of weft yarns, the link between the two woven structures (1, 2) being produced during a common simultaneous weaving process interlacing the structures, so as to form between the two structures, here and there, tubular pockets (3, 3') oriented along the warp yarns or along the weft yarns, said pockets being used as housing for receiving elements (4, 4') directly mounted for various purposes.
