GLOVE HOLDER
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to a device for holding a glove so that the glove is
readily accessible
to a user, and particularly for a golfer who may wish to remove and replace a
golf glove repeatedly
during a golf game.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
In many circumstances, a user wears a glove on a hand to enable the user to
per:Eorm a task
better. The task may be one of a series of tasks performed while the user is
engaged in an activity.
The user may wish to remove the glove from the hand at different times while
the user is engaged
in the activity. From time to time while the user is engaged in the activity,
the user m.ay have to
replace the glove on the hand.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a typical glove. As shown in Figure l, the
typical glove
10 has securing portions 12, 14 which mate to secure the glove 10 on the
user's hand (not shown).
Conveniently, the securing portions may comprise a loop and pile fastening
assembly, as shown in
Figure l, available under the "Velcro" trademark.
For example, when engaged in the activity of golfing, a golfer may wear a golf
glove on a
hand for certain golf shots. The golfer may prefer not to wear the golf glove
when making certain
other golf shots, for example, when putting. Also, the golfer may be more
comfortable between
shots without the glove on the hand. The glove therefore may be removed from
the hand, and
replaced on the hand, repeatedly throughout a golf game. During the golf game,
when the glove is
off the hand, the golfer needs to store the glove so that it is readily
accessible to the golfer.
At present, the golfer may address this problem by temporarily storing the
glove in a pocket
in the golfer's clothing. However, the pocket may not be sufficiently large to
receive thf: glove, and
the glove may fall out of the pocket and be misplaced. Also, the glove may
result in an unsightly
bulge in the clothing, or the glove may cause discomfort when the golfer sits
down.

CA 02355550 2001-08-20
If the glove has been removed, and the golfer chooses not to put the glove
into the golfer's
pocket, the golfer may temporarily place the glove somewhere else. For
example, the golfer may
carry the glove in the hand. However, the golfer's hand is then occupied by
the glove, and the golfer
may inadvertently drop the glove. Alternatively, the golfer may temporarily
store the glove in a golf
bag. This has the disadvantage that the glove may not be readily accessible,
for example, if the golf
bag is not nearby when the golfer needs the glove.
Therefore, there is a need for a device for holding a glove so that the glove
is readily
accessible to a user.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
In one aspect, the invention provides a holder for holding a glove readily
acccasible to a
user, where the glove has securing portions for mating with each other to
secure the glove on the
user's hand. The holder includes a base and a fastening portion coupled to the
base. T'he fastening
portion cooperates with the securing portions to releasably fasten a securing
portion to the fastening
portion. The holder also includes a connecting assembly extending from the
base, for releasably
connecting the base to the user's clothing.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF TH1DRAWINGS
The invention will be better understood with reference to the drawings, in
which:
Figure 1 (also described previously) is a perspective view of a typical glove;
Figure 2 is an oblique view of a preferred embodiment of the invention, in
use;
Figure 3 is an oblique view of the holder as drawn in Figure 2; and
Figure 4 is a side view of the holder as drawn in Figure 2.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS)
Reference is made to Figure 2 which illustrates a preferred embodiment of a
holder
according to the invention and indicated generally by the numeral 20, in use,
attached to a user's
clothing exemplified in this embodiment by a belt 22. As shown in Figures 2
and 3, true holder 20
includes a base 24 to which a fastening portion 26 is coupled, as will be
described. The fastening
portion 26 cooperates with securing portions 12, 14 of a glove 10 so that one
of the securing
portions 12, 14 can be releasably fastened to the fastening portion 26, as
will be described. The

holder 20 also includes a connecting assembly, indicated generally by the
numeral 28, extending
from the base 24. The connecting assembly 28 can be used to releasably connect
the base 24 to the
user's clothing 30, as will be described.
In a preferred embodiment, where the securing portions 12, 14 comprise a loop
and pile
fastening assembly, as shown in Figure 1, the fastening portion 26 comprises
at least one part of a
loop and pile fastening assembly which cooperates with one of the securing
portions 12, 14 to
releasably fasten one of the securing portions 12, 14 to the fastening portion
26.
In a preferred embodiment, the connecting assembly 28 includes a first
elongate: portion 32
extending from the base 24 and a second elongate portion 34 joined to the
first elongate portion 32
at a first end 35 thereof distal to the base 24 by a bent portion 36, the
first elongate portion 32 and
the second elongate portion 34 being aligned. A terminal portion 38 projects
orthogonally from a
second end 40 of the second elongate portion 34 toward the first elongate
portion 32. The first
elongate portion 32, the second elongate portion 34, the bent portion 36, and
the terminal portion
3 8 define an elongate aperture 42.
In use, the user's belt 22 is inserted through the elongate aperture 42 before
the belt 22 is put
into the user's clothing 30 in the conventional manner. When the belt 22 is
inserted through the
elongate aperture 42, the base 24 is held by the user so that the connecting
assembly 2 8 can hang
down from the belt 22. The holder 20 may be used with the fastening portion 26
adj;~cent to the
user's clothing 30 or, in the alternative, with the fastening portion 26
facing away from the user's
clothing 30. Although one of the securing portions 12, 14 can be relea.sably
fastened to the
fastening portion 26 before or after the connecting assembly 28 is connected
to the user's belt 22,
preferably, one of the securing portions 12, 14 is releasably fastened to the
fastening por~.ion 26 after
the connecting assembly 28 has been connected to the user's belt 22 and the
user's belt 22 has been
put into the user's clothing 30.
The holder 20 can be removed by reversing the steps described above. The
user's belt 22
is removed from the user's clothing 30, and the belt 22 is taken out of the
elongate aperture 42. One
of the securing portions 12, 14 can be removed from the fastening portion 26
either before or after
the belt 22 is taken out of the elongate aperture 42.
-4-

CA 02355550 2001-08-20
The base 24 may be made of plastic, a metal (such as brass), or any other
suitable material.
The base 24 and the connecting assembly 28 may be integrally formed.
The securing portions 12, 14 on the glove 10 can have embodiments other than
those shown
in Figure 1. For example, the glove 10 may be held on the user's hand by a
dome assembly in which
a dome button, disposed on a securing portion, cooperates with a dome base
disposed on the glove's
other securing portion to fasten the securing portions together. In this case,
the fastening portion
26 would include a second dome button and a second dome base for cooperating
with the dome
assembly to fasten one of the securing portions to the fastening portion 26.
The connecting assembly 28 may be constructed so that the base 24 can be
connected to the
user's clothing 30 by means other than inserting the belt 22 through the
elongate aperture 42. For
instance, the connecting assembly 28 may comprise a clip which would be used
to releasably
connect the base 24 to the user's clothing 30.
Gloves other than golf gloves can be used with the holder 20. For example, a
gardener may
use gardening gloves while gardening. The gardener may wish to remove and
replace thc: gardening
gloves repeatedly while gardening. In these circumstances, if the gardening
gloves have securing
portions 12, 14, and the holder 20 has a fastening portion 26 which can
cooperate with the securing
portions 12, 14 to fasten the securing portions 12, 14 to the fastening
portion 26, the gardener could
use the holder 20 to hold the gardening gloves while they are removed.
It will be evident to those skilled in the art that the invention can take
many forms and that
such forms are within the scope of the invention as claimed.
