English Abstract

This is a cellular telephone in which the sound of the rings announcing an
incoming call
sounds an adjustably number of times and then increases in intensity
gradually, starting
with a very low level of sound that can be heard by almost no one other than
the bearer of
the phone, the level of the sound for each of the said number of times
gradually
increasing at an adjustably variable rate to any adjustably maximum sound. It
also
contains a button to announce to the caller a re-recordable message, say,
stating that the
user is unable at the time to talk to the caller who may call back later. The
present
invention may be applicable to ordinary wired or wireless telephones.

Description of Invention
i4,
wTv t
The present invention is about rings of a cellular phone that sounds at a very
low level
when an incoming calls arrives first. This "very low level" sound is hardly
audible except
even to the bearer of the phone. This "very low level" sound rings for a set
and adjustable
1 ~~. i ; , ; number of times at the end of which, if the phone call is not
picked up (for any reason,
including the sound being inaudible to the bearer of the phone), it starts to
ring at the next . i
higher lever of sound, the gradient of the successive higher levels of sounds
being
adjustable. Again, after the set number of rings at this level of intensity,
the rings become
t
louder as stated above. These successive higher levels of sounds do not reach
any higher
E : than is set at an adjustable level, in any case.
.-.f :>
The additional integral feature of the present invention is that if for any
reason the user of
the phone, even after becoming aware of the incoming call, cannot take that
call, say,
' ~ because his answering the call may disturb the people around, he/she may
simply push a
' button that automatically announces to the caller a prerecorded (and re-
recordable)
message (inaudible at this end of the said user of the phone with the present
invention, of
course) to the effect, for example, that he/she (the user of the phone) is
unable to talk to
the caller at that time and that the caller may call back later if necessary
and if possible.
This present invention may be used even in ordinary wired or wireless
telephone as well.
The technology and mechanism of creating the said gradually increasing sounds
of the
rings and of the automatic announcement stated above are of common knowledge
in the
industry.

Patent Application : CELLULAR PtiONE WITH INCREASING RING SOUND

Background of Invention
A modern cellular phone typically has two systems to let the user know that
there is an
incoming call, namely, a ring sound and a vibrating mechanism that vibrates
the cellular
phone to attract the attention if the bearer to let him/her be aware of any
incoming call.
The vibrator is used when the sound of the ring may not be welcome, for
example, in a
cinema hall or a board room where it may disturb other people around. However,
often
the user may not have the said cellular phone on himself/herself but, say, in
a briefcase
that he/she may be carrying or on the desk in front. In such circumstances the
vibrator
may not be useful, yet a loud ring may not be welcome. For use in such cases,
in the
present invention, there is a very low intensity of the ring sound that be
inaudible almost
by anyone other than who is very near the phone, which most likely will be the
user. This
will be least likely to disturb others around. This "very low sound" may be
adjusted to
any level, depending on the people around, etc. After an adjustable number of
rings, this
"very low sound" will increase to an adjustable next higher intensity of
sound, and will
keep increasing in the similar manner at each gradient of the said number of
times of such
rings until it reaches an adjustably maximum intensity, this "maximum
intensity" is
adjusted, depending on the circumstance, in order to make sure that the rings
do not
affect any or too many other people around. This present invention may be
combined
with any other alerting mechanism in any phone (cellular or ordinary wired or
wireless
phones). The present invention may be useful in an ordinary wired or wireless
telephone
where, for example, the intended user may have fallen asleep and the sound of
phone
rings, say, at night, should not be any louder than is necessary to arouse
this intended user
with least disturbance to any others around.
Often the user, even after becoming aware of the incoming call, is not able to
talk to the
caller, say, because his/her answering the call may take away his/her
attention from the
business at hand at the time or the sound of his/her voice answering the call
may disturb
others around. In the present invention there is a button on the phone that,
when pressed,
will automatically announce a re-recordable prerecorded message to the caller
(inaudible
at this end of the said user of the phone with the present invention, of
course) stating, say,
that it is not possible for the user to talk to the caller at the time and the
caller may call
back later (or any other message as desired). It is to be noted that, in this
present instance,
this automatic announcement is of not necessarily inability to "take" the call
at the time
(as is usually the case, say, in answering machines) but inability to "talk",
that is,
indirectly indicating that the intended receiver of the call is aware of the
incoming call at
the time. This automatic announcement may have other applications, such as, in
case of
users of cellular phones, when driving an automobile at the time of an
incoming call.
