English Abstract

.cndot. A holographic projection device for displaying a 3-dimensional
image
comprises a cylindrical base having a diagonally-cut top portion, and a
figurine. The cylindrical base comprises a reflection-type hologram, a
point source of white light, and a magnetic element. The figurine has a
diagonally-cut bottom portion, and comprises a magnetic element. The
reflection-type hologram projects an upright orthoscopic image having
both horizontal and vertical parallaxes. The cylindrical base has the
capability of detachably mounting the figurine with a magnetic attraction
force between the magnetic elements. A downward movement of the magnetic
element by gravity turns on the point source of white light when the
figurine is detached. An upward movement of the magnetic element turns
off the point source of white light when the figurine is magnetically
attached. This invention relates to holographic projection devices for
displaying a 3-dimensional image, and the principal use of the invention
is for optical decoration.

Description
Title
= Holographic Statue with an Auto-Switch Mechanism
Technical Field
= This invention relates to holographic projection devices for displaying a

3-dimensional image, more particularly to a holographic projection device
for displaying a 3-dimensional image of a statue.
Background Art
= There are many instances where it would be desirable to be able to have a
compact holographic projection device for displaying a 3-dimensional
image such as a statue, in which a figurine is magnetically mounted.
= A number of patents disclose holographic projection devices with
different configurations for displaying holographic images.
= Canadian Application 2 277 653 discloses a "Cylindrical Holographic
Display Device" for displaying an upright holographic image
perpendicularly to the hologram. However, this prior art suffers from a
limited viewing angle, and a small height of the upright holographic
image.
= Canadian Application 2 278 110 discloses a "Holographic Display Device
with a Paraboloidal Hologram" for displaying an upright holographic image
perpendicularly to the hologram which has a wider viewing angle. However,
this prior art applies only to transmission-type holograms, and is too
complex and difficult to manufacture.
= Canadian Application 2 289 999 discloses "Holographic Statue Projection
Device" for displaying an upright holographic image diagonally to the
hologram which has a much wider viewing angle.
= These prior art arrangements do not provide a figurine which is
magnetically mounted on a cylindrical base in order to superimpose with
the 3-dimensional holographic image of a reflection-type hologram on the
cylindrical base.
Description of the Invention
= It is a primary object of the invention to provide a holographic
projection device for displaying a 3-dimensional image having both
horizontal and vertical parallaxes.
= It is another object of the invention to provide a holographic projection

device with an elliptical reflection-type hologram placed diagonally in
order to provide a wide viewing angle.
= It is another object of the invention to provide a holographic projection

device with a figurine which has the same shape and the same size as the
holographic image of a reflection-type hologram.
= It is another object of the invention to provide a holographic projection

device with a figurine which detachably mounts on a cylindrical base with
a magnetic attraction force.
= It is another object of the invention to provide a holographic projection

device with magnetic elements which turn off and on an electrical circuit
when a figurine is attached to or detached from a cylindrical base.
= A holographic projection device for displaying a 3-dimensional image
comprises a cylindrical base having a diagonally-cut top portion, and a
An upward movement of the magnetic element turns
off the point source of white light when the figurine is magnetically
attached.

O Figure 1 is a perspective view of a holographic projection device
with a figurine in an attached OFF position according to the
invention;

invention.
Modes for Carrying Out the Invention
= In one embodiment of the invention shown in Figure 1 in an attached OFF
position, a holographic projection device for displaying a 3-dimensional
image comprises a cylindrical base 1-0 and a figurine 2-0.
= The cylindrical base 1-0 has a diagonally-cut top portion. The

source of white light 1-2 for illuminating the reflection-type hologram
1-1, a mounting means 1-3 for mounting the point source of white light

mounting the figurine 2-0 with a magnetic attraction force between the
magnetic element 1-5 of the cylindrical base 1-0 and the magnetic element
2-5 of the figurine 2-0 so that the figurine 2-0 can superimpose with the
holographic image from the reflection-type hologram 1-1.
= A downward movement of the magnetic element 1-5 by gravity forms a closed

electrical circuit between the first electrical contact 1-6 and the
second electrical contact 1-7 in order to turn on the point source of
white light 1-2 when the figurine 2-0 is detached from the cylindrical
base 1-0.
= An upward movement of the magnetic element 1-5 forms an open electrical
circuit between the first electrical contact 1-6 and the second
electrical contact 1-7 in order to turn off the point source of white
light 1-2 when the figurine 2-0 is magnetically attached to the
cylindrical base 1-0.
= The magnetic element 1-5 of the cylindrical base 1-0 may be made of a
ferromagnetic material, and the magnetic element 2-5 of the figurine 2-0
may be made of a permanent magnet. Alternatively, the magnetic element
1-5 of the cylindrical base 1-0 may be made of a permanent magnet, and

ferromagnetic material. Alternatively, the magnetic element 1-5 of the
cylindrical base 1-0 may be made of a permanent magnet, and the magnetic
element 2-5 of the figurine 2-0 may be made of a permanent magnet.
= The magnetic element 1-5 of the cylindrical base 1-0 and the magnetic
element 2-5 of the figurine 2-0 may be cylinder-shaped. The magnetic

element 1-5 of the cylindrical base 1-0 and the magnetic element 2-5 of
the figurine 2-0 may be parallelepiped-shaped.
= Preferably, the permanent magnet is made of a rare-earth magnet.
= In another embodiment of the invention, the magnetic element 1-5 of the
cylindrical base 1-0 is hingedly mounted in a hinge configuration, as
shown in Figure 3 in an attached OFF position and in Figure 4 in a
detached ON position.
= In another embodiment of the invention, the magnetic element 1-5 of the
cylindrical base 1-0 is slidably mounted in a piston configuration, as
shown in Figure 5 in an attached OFF position and in Figure 6 in a
