SCAFFOLDING DEVICE
The present invention relates to a scaffold device and more particularly,
relates to a
scaffold device which is easily movable and adjustable.
Scaffolding is almost universally used on many different types of construction
sites.
Normally, the scaffolding comprises a plurality of vertical metal posts which
are
interconnected by cross braces. The vertical posts may be stacked on top of
each other and
planks are utilized for the worker to stand on.
A problem conventionally encountered with the use of such scaffolding is the
moving of the same. Being very difficult to move as it is not stable, either a
number of
people are required or the scaffolding must be disassembled and reassembled at
a new
location. Also, the stability of the scaffolding is a big problem since the
construction site
is almost never smooth. Accordingly, the construction workers will frequently
use add
pieces of construction material to put under one or more of the legs.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a scaffold device which
overcomes the disadvantage of the prior art. The scaffolding device of the
present
invention provides a scaffold which is both stable and easily movable.
Furthermore, the
scaffolding is easily adjustable.
Having thus generally described the invention, reference will be made to the
accompanying drawings illustrating an embodiment thereof, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an assembly of a scaffold according to an
embodiment of the present invention;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of one of the legs of the end assembly of
Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2 illustrating the attachment of a wheel

thereto; and
Figure 4 is a perspective view illustrating the end assembly in an adjusted
position.
Referring to the drawings in greater detail and by reference characters
thereto, there
is illustrated a first end assembly which is generally designated by reference
numeral 10.
End assembly 10 includes a pair of leg members 14 and 16, each of which are
substantially
identical and thus only one will be described in detail herein.
Leg 14 includes a post 18 having teeth 20 formed on one side thereof. On the
post
is a racket member 22 and which engages teeth 20 in a conventional manner.
Racket
member 22 has, extending from one side thereof, a pair of ears 24 each having
an aperture
26 therein. Similarly, on the opposite side, there are provided ears 28 with
apertures 30
formed therein.
Post 18 is mounted on a skid plate 32 which has upturned portions 34 at the
ends
thereof.
A main beam 36 is comprised of a first section 38 and a second section 40 and
which sections are telescopically connected together. Pins 42 are used to
secure first
section 38 and second section 40 together at a desired length.
Each of first section 38 and 40 carry Legs receptacles 44 which are designed
to
receive and hold thereto a leg of a conventional scaffolding arrangement.
As may be seen in Figure 1, first section 38 is secured to racket member 22 by
means of a pin 46 extending through apertures 26 of ears 24 and first section
38.
On the other side, a wheel 48 mounted on a stub axle 50 is secured to racket
member 22 by means of a pin 52 extending through apertures 30 of ears 28.
As shown in Figure 4, the end assembly 20 may be adjusted to different heights

take into account a typical construction site. When it is desired to move the
scaffolding,
typically the rachet member 22 is adjusted downwardly until all the wheels
contact the
surface following which the scaffolding can easily be rolled to a new
position.
Alternatively, in Northern climates wherein snow is frequently encountered,
skid plates 32
may be utilized.
It will be understood that the above described embodiment is for purposes of
illustration only and that changes and modifications may be made thereto
without
departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
