Les chalumeaux et raccords d'érablière conventionnels, clairs ou opaques, qui
sont exposés constamment aux rayons UV (Ultra-Violet) provenant du soleil,
s'altèrent, deviennent secs, cassants et fragiles, et perdent leur étanchéité
avec
le temps, nécessitant leur remplacement. Un chalumeau ou un raccord fait de
résines de fluoropolymères tout en étant clair et transparent au spectre de la
lumière visible, a la propriété d'être très transparent aux rayons UV et ne
s'altère pas avec le temps pendant plusieurs années d'exposition aux rayons
du soleil. Ces chalumeaux et raccords ont un pigment violet pour mieux
absorber le rayonnement rouge et infra-rouge, ces rayonnements contribuant
à l'augmentation interne de la chaleur et à la prolifération bactérienne. Les
plastiques fluorés utilisés pour ces chalumeaux et raccords, soit le FEP
(copolymère de hexafluoropropylène et de tetrafluoroéthylène) ou le ETFE
(poly-éthylène-co-tétrafluoroéthylène), conservent leurs propriétés
mécaniques même par températures très basses. Ils glissent plus facilement,
sont résilients et conservent par conséquent une étanchéité accrue avec
l'arbre
ou avec la tubulure. De plus, le FEP ou le ETFE composant les chalumeaux et
raccords ayant un coefficient de frottement très bas et ayant une surface très
lisse, les bactéries peuvent beaucoup moins s'attacher et provoquer de la
résistance à l'écoulement de la sève. Ces chalumeaux et raccords ont une très
grande résistance chimique aux détergents et autres composés caustiques
utilisés lors des nettoyages d'entretien. La transparence aux rayons UV
permet à ces rayons énergétiques de contribuer à freiner la contamination
bactérienne à l'intérieur de ces chalumeaux et raccords.
