SKI SHOES
This invention relates to a ski like device to be used to go up and down
various terrain in snowy
conditions.
This apparatus is a hybrid between skis and snowshoes allowing the user to
effectively go up
steep snowy slopes, while safely being able to go down various terrain.
A rigid snowboard like binding is used to offer a certain protection to the
user's ankles and
enhance control. The ski portion of the apparatus is offered in various
lengths and widths to
match the rider's specific size and weight. Ideal dimension arrangements would
generally be
wider and shorter than normal skis, and on the other hand, narrower and longer
than normal
snowshoes.
The configuration of the device allows for a quick and easy switch over from
climbing to decent
mode. To properly ascend 2 key mechanisms are proposed; firstly, a brake that
allows the ski to
freely move forward while preventing a backward motion and secondly, the
binding must hinge
from the toe portion leaving the heel portion of the binding free to allow
normal walking
motion. Ideally, nothing has to be done to the device for short and easy
decent, but for steeper
more challenging slopes a locking mechanism could be used for the heel portion
of the binding
to mimic a traditional downhill skiing concept.
