English Abstract

This invention called "Weak Rope Fishing Trap Locator" was developed to
eliminate sea
creatures, mainly Whales, to get entangled in the ropes used to link fishing
traps to their buoy.
Currently the trap is link to the buoy with a relatively heavy rope; this rope
has to be strong
enough to retrieve the trap without breaking. Being that strong creates a
problem when a sea
creature gets entangled in it, often causing deadly injuries.

Claims

Note: Claims are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

l hereby claim part of my invention a system that uses a low braking strength
rope to tie one or
more fishing trap to its buoy with the purpose of using that low braking
strength rope to guide
another heavier rope or hook to retrieve the trap.

Description

Note: Descriptions are shown in the official language in which they were submitted.

My invention is a concept that uses a very weak rope to link the trap to its
buoy; this rope could
be single strand or multiple strands. If a sea creature gets in contact with
this rope, it simply
breaks without any injuries to the creature. Of course this weak rope is not
strong enough to
retrieve the trap by itself therefore it is used to guide a heavy rope to the
trap in order to
retrieve it.
One variant of the concept uses a very weak rope to link the trap to its buoy;
this could be
single strand or multiple strands. This weak rope is attached at one end to a
buoy and the other
end to a mating piece installed on the trap. To retrieve the trap, a self-
latching hook attached to
a heavy rope is lowered into the water, guided by the weak rope down to the
mating piece on
the trap where it latches to. The trap is then hauled using the heavy rope. In
this variant, the
mating piece could be replaced by a piece of steel, and the self-latching hook
replace by a
magnet.
Another variant of the concept is to have the weak rope going from the buoy
thru a ring on the
trap, then back to the buoy, when the traps needs to be retrieved, a heavy
rope is attached to
one end of the weak rope, the other end of the weak rope is hauled until both
ends of the
heavy rope are now in the boat, pulling both strings of the heavy rope will
retrieve the trap.
In both of the above variant, multiple traps could be attached together by a
heavy rope and link
to a buoy by a weak rope.
