~ a~.-~
The invention is directed to a trash cont~iner,
particularly a trash container designed ror chewing gum and like
material.
Description of the Prior Art
: i
In ~ront Or most large stores some type Or trash
contain~r i~ provided. Usu~ thesa cont~iners are large and pro~ide
open top~ ~rom which the trash is visible.
The container herein i5 relatively small and
attracti~e. It has a top that will stay 0109ed, It i9 do~igned to attract
children who are great users of chewing gum and ~t will encourage
children to use the container rather than throw the chewing gum on the
ground. ~
The container bas a base, ~ast.enet? to the groundJ
with an upright member extending there~rom. A d~cora~ive housing on the
top Or the upright member contains a trash rccepticle~therein. ~he

a decorati~e housing ~, a trash contain~r 10 (see Figure 5) and a top 120
As can be seen from ~igures 2 and 3~ the:ba~e 4 is P
tubular member 14 with a flange 16 at the lower end of member 14. The
flange 1~ i~ used to faston the container 2 to the ground by an appropri~
ate fastening me~nsg such as lag bolt~ and anchors~ The upper end of the
tubular ~ember 14 receive~ the 30wer en~ Or the uprlght m~mber h which is
a tube-like struoture (see Figure 3). The~e elemrn~ 4 and fi may be
permenently rastened together by weldin~ or relea~ably fastened together
by set 3crew~ or t.he like. The upri~ht member fi i5 of 6urricient len~th

housing i~ ba~ioally a square hollow int-rior pls~tie housing w~th two
; open end3. The hou3ing i8 opaque or translucent ~nd its lower end rests
. on shelf 20 on the upper end of tubular member 18~ A ~mall rai~ed wall 22
xtonds upward from 8helf 20 and the lower end Or the housiDg 8 is posi-
tioned around the wall 22, 5mall screws or the liXe may fasten housing
to wall 22. Within housi~g $ and resting on ~helf 20 is .a small clo~ed
. bottom~ open top contalner 10 into which trash will fall ~rom the opening
in the top 12. Thi~ trash container 10 will hold the trash deposited in
contalner 2 ~nd, when the top 12 is remoYed, the trash container 10 can b~
removed from houslng 8 and the trash disposed of in ~n appropriate manner.
The top 12, as seen in Figur~ fi,has small raised
wall 24 ~imilar to w~ll 22 and this w~ll 22 is po~itioned within the
upper open ~nd o~ housing 8. Again screws can rasten these parts together.
As ~hown in Figure 1, the top 12 has a trap door 26 pivotted at point 2~,
As shown in Figure 1, the trap door 26 co~ers an opening in the top 12.
In ~igure 6~ the opening 30 c~n be see~. When the trap door is moYed
~idew~ys, the opening 30 i6 visible rrom the outside Or t.he~container 2
and trash may b~ in6erted through opening 30. The~open~ng 30 is rel~tivel~
~mall and is sized just large enough to receive the trash it is designed
for i.e. chewing gum.

bicycle bell 38 causlng the bell to ri~g. Con~equently, a bell riDgs
a~ th~ trap door moves, ~nd this iB an ~ttractlon to ohildren cau~ing
them to like to u~e the eontainer 2 for trash, particularly chswing gum.
.Other than tho plastic hou~ing, most parts are of metal, but could be
plastic. The decoration for the housing 8, and the shape~ ~hown in the
dr~wing, are mere a~amples of one form of the 4n~ention and other
decorations and shapes may be used. The trash recei~ing container 10
oould be a ~etal can, a paper or pla~tic ba~ or eY~n the hollow interior
o~ the housing ~.
