English Abstract

The invention relates to a printed thermoformable laminate comprised of at
least two plastic films. The printing is placed between plastic films inside
the laminate in order to increase protection against forgery. Preferred
laminates have the following structure: film A / print / laminating agent /
film C; film A / print / laminating agent / film B / laminating agent / film
C, and; film A / print / laminating agent / film B / laminating agent / print
/ film C.

Printed thermoformabMe laminate with increased security against forgery
The invention relates to a printed thermoformable laminate made of at least
two
plastics material films.
Thermoformable plastics material laminates may be printed for customer
information before or after forming. The printing of the laminates before the
thermoforming into containers or beakers takes place prirriarily on the
container
wall with current printirig methods. If the plastics material laminate is
printed
before the thermoforming the printing may detach to a greater or lesser extent
from the laminate surface during forming or during the logistics because of
the
reduced adhesion of the printing dyes to the background, as a function of the
degree of forming.

In the two cases of conventional printing, the print is located on the outside
of the
laminate surface formirig the packaging and is therefore easily accessible for
forgeries, in that the print can be removed from the packaging and can easily
be
replaced by printing on new information.

When using pre-printed laminates, there is also the possibility that these may
be
produced by forgers, as plastics material films and laminates made of plastics
materials are available to an almost unlimited extent commercially.

The invention is based on the object of providing a thermoformable laminate of
the type mentioned at the outset with a printing such that, in comparison to
the
printed thermoformable laminates according to the prior art, a substantially
higher
degree of security against forgery is produced.

The fact that the printing is arranged between adjacent plastics material
films to
increase the security against forgery leads to the achievement of the object
according to the invention.

The followirig structures are preferred for the laminates according to the
invention:

film A/ print / laminating means / film C
film A/ print i laminating means / film B/ laminating means / film C
film A/ print / laminating means / film B/ laminating rrieans / print / film
C.
The films A, B and C; are thermoformable plastics material films based on
chlorinated hydrocarboris, such as polyvinyl chloride and polyvinylidene
chloride,
chlorofluorocarbons, for example ACLARO, polyolefins,
polyethyleneterephthalates, polyacrylonitriles, for example BAREX ,
cycloolefin
copolymers, cycloolefiri polymers, polysulphones or biologically degradable
plastics materials, or combinations of these plastics materials in the
laminate.
PVDC may be a film or a coating.

The total thickness of the laminates is 150 to 500 pm and also 90 to 150 pm in
PVC/PE laminates.

The lamination takes place with laminatirig adhesives based on water, with
solvent-based or solvent-free laminating adhesives and/or by extrusion
lamination
as monoextrusion or coextrusion. In the case of COC or COP laminates with PE
or PP, a lacquer lamination or else the production of a partial laminate by
coextrusion is recommended.

The interlaminar bond of the individual layers should be at least 2 N/15 mm.

When using dyed films for the printing, the colour of the printed image may be
changed by a corresponding choice of colour. For example, blue printing of a
film
which is dyed yellow leads to a printed image which appears green. The
security
against forgery of printed laminates cari be further iricreased with colour
combinations of this type.
The preferred film combinations for the laminates according to the invention
are
compiled in Table 1. The abbreviations of the plastics materials on which the
films are based mean~

invention.
