When a spring file of the said kind is fully filled up~ or a certaln
period has elapsed, it may be required to remove the contents to
permanent files for 6ubsequent use. Known for this purpose are file
straps, meant for u~e in connection with unlocked file fasteners, and
which after the shift of the said documents to the file strap is
attached to the legs of the strap by way of some kind of blocking
of the sheets or documents preventing them! fro~ the possibility Or
slipping off the said legs of the strap.
Known is for example a file strap consisting of a plate with a plastic
covered metal wire fastened in a manner allowing bending of the wire
to for~ two bendable legs to which the gheets may be removed. After
the operation the two legs are ben;t to a right angle around the stack
of papers, thus preventing the sheets from slipping~
This file strap is encumbered with 6everal inconvenlences. ~rimarily
the plast covered metal wire is unsuited for repeated use, as the
metal when bent to an angle becomeg deformed in a manner that prevents
full 6traightening out of the wire, when the leg is unbent. A small
bulge is formed cauging that it becomes impossible after repeated use
to place unobstructedly the documents on or re~ove them from the legs.
Add to this the occurring fatigue of the material, which effects
breaking of the wire, thus rendering the strap ungerviceable~ It is
moreover complicated to embed guch a metal wire into plastic, as the
wire frequently tends to be squeezed by the tool6 during the manufacture,
or the metal wire may corrode and discolour the documents, when they
are filed in damp surroundings.
Known is also another type of file strap consisting of a soft hose
penetrating through two holes of a hard cover in such a manner that
the two legs of the soft hose protrude from the cover at a distance
fro~ each other n tting the holes in the paper sheets. ~he documents
are transferred to these two legs, after which a semi-rigid strap
is inserted on the legs, to which strap the 6heet6 may be removed,
when the latter legg are firmly gqueezed in a detachable upper part
provided with a locking slot for the entering of the legs.
The mentioned strap offers llkewise several inconveniences. It is
first of all extremely dlfncult to ghift the documents to the 60ft
logs, as the legs during the operation will y~d and bend when exposed

to end pressure during the attempt. Transfer of sheets to the
legs must be attempted with a few sheets at a time, which im-
pairs the availability of the system. There is further the
complication involved that a strap must be inserted after the
squeezing of the legs to secure them from slipping out of the
squeeze and accordingly out of the locked state.
An object of the present invention is to provide an
improved device for releasably fastening perforated sheets.
According to the invention, the device includes a first
plate having two legs for engagement in perforations in sheets
to be fastened, and a second plate having holes to receive said
legs. The second plate includes, at its outer side, spring-like
fastening means for releasably securing said legs.
The device is in the form of a one-piece moulding of a elastic
plastic material and the second plate is detachably coupled to
the first plate so that the second plate can be separated from -
the first plate when the device is to be used. The said
legs can then be inserted through the perforations in the sheets
and through appropriate holes in the second plate, bent through
approximately 90, and engaged with said spring-like fastening ~
means to releasably secure the legs. -
By means of the said construction, the plate and the
two legs, which after placing of the papers on the legs allows
bending and releasable locking to a plate with holes, is achieved
an extremely simple and wearable filing unit. The legs are made
of an especially suit~ed plastic material, which will stand bending
almost incessantly without losing rigidity or resilience. The

homogenous legs are very strong and so rigid that they can easily
penetrate the holes of the pile of paper. Smudging of the docu-
ments is avoided, as the material remains unaffected by moisture
or other for instance chemical effects. The spring-like fast-
ening device is moreover extremely handy, as the squeezing of
the leg into the lock is indicated unmistakeably audibly when
the leg is engaged, just as it is easy to feel when the leg is
in the correct location. Furthermore, the lock is easily dis-
engaged by raising the leg from the spring locks of the plate,
after which the legs can be straightened out, and the documents
removed with no effort at all.
The casting of plate and legs in one, renders the manu- -
facture extremely expedient, offering a constant certainty of
having the correct number of parts available, and results further-
more in an extremely rational manufacture of the parts in one -
operation of one machine.
By the use of the fastening device, is achieved a
very simple and extremely reliable fastening of the legs, a
device which is moreover easy to operate even with a minimum
of finger strength. In addition, the lock requires an uncompli-
cated manufacture in one operation only together with the plate
with holes of a material warranting that the lips will yield
to the legs, allowing them to encase the leg on their return
to normal position.

With reference to the figure6 ~ - 3 the file 6trap consist6 of two parts
viz. a plate 6 with two legs ~ located on the same side of the plate 6.
The plate 6 i8 plane on the bottom side i.e. the side oppo6ite of the
legs, by which i8 achieved that the parts 6,1 can rest on a plane level,
whlch facilitates the work of ingerting paper sheets etc. on the member.
The legs are situated at mutual intervals equal to the intervals
between the holes of the paper sheets to be filed~ The legs are of
unlform 6~ape and at the outmost end provided with an indentation at
the end plane 4, which said indentation is intended for fixation or the
legs Or the letter file by their pointed ends.
The other part of the nle strap consists of a plate 2 partly provided
with holes 7 for interaction with the legs 1 and partly with two
faetening device6 3 for lnteraction with the leg6 1 during their
f~stening at the filing operation, as de6cribed below.
The two parts 6,1 and 2,3 are preferably manufactured in one ca6ting
proces6, 60 that they afte~ the casting appear as 6pecified in figure

When a user has acquired a strap like this, he must 6eparate the parts
at the point of assembly 5 at the end of the plate 2 with the holes
and the center of the plate 6 between the legs ~.
The plate 2 with the holes i~ as mentioned proYided with two locking
devices 3 at the ends~ These locks consists of two sets of lips
formlng between them a slot 8. The said slot 8 is intended for the
leg6 1, when they are to be n r~ly locked. Abo~e, i.e. at the remotest
point from the plate 2, the lips are closest to each other, so that
the lip8 3 must yield when the leg6 are pressed pa6t their opening.
During the opening procedure the slot i6 widened, attaining at last ~-
the thickness of the legs 1, which can thu6 pas6 in under the lip6
to be encased a6 6hown in figure 3.
A6 the plastic material of which the part6 are produced is very elastic
the lips will be able to keep the legs in the desired position in
a very safe and simple way.
The application of the fastenin,g device can be described as follows: -
The parts being separated as shown in figure 2. In case of shifts of
psper sheets from a letter file, the lock of the latter is released
and the legs 1 are directed to the poi~ted legs, which are intercepted
and fised in the lndention 4 near the ends of the legs.Now all sheet6
can easily and effortless be transferred to the legs 1, When all the
sheets have been removed the plate 2 with the holes is placed on top
Or the papers with the plane side downwards and the legs } i~ the
holes 7. The plate 2 with the hole6 is pregsed against the ~heets
to ob~tain a more compact stack. Subsequently the two legs are bent
apart and brought to bear against the upper side of the plate with the
hole6, and with the legs in the slot 8 of the lock. Thls permits the
downward pressing of the legs between the lips 3, as shown in figure 3,
and the paper sheets are locked together. If it is required to remove
one or 6everal 6heets, the leg6 are raised free of the s~ring lock 3,
then 6traightened up, apd the plate 2 with the holes is removed, after
which the 6heets may be llfted off the legs 1.
The pre6ent filing arran~ement can of cour6e al60 be used for
fastening Or papers to be inse~ted direct into the sy6tem i.e. without
pre~ious insertion in a letter file. In the latter case is made u~e
of the 6pecial feature of the part 6,1 with the leg6 permitting an
un6upported stand, which facilitate6 the in6ertion of document6

Another embodiment of the invention, as shown in figures 4 - 11
18 described below.

governing paper 6heets, data proce66ing copie6, formula6 etc.
~igures 8 and 9 show the legs, which are at the one end furni6hed
wlth a plate 12, functioning as an end stop to theleg, when the
latter is inserted into the hole 1~ in the plate 9. To secure that
the legs 611p out of the plate 9 the leg is provided with a couple
Or thlcken$ngs 13, which can be 6ituated diametrically oppo~ite to
each other. The thickening 13 is tapered, inclining from the leg
toward6 the end stop 12, to be cut off perpendicularly to the leg
~or the formation of a contact 6urface for the body of the plate 9r

The purpo6e of the tapering of the sa$d thickenings 3~sto facil~tate
thelr penetrating through the hole 11, bringing about easier yielding
o f the sides o f the hole for the thlckening. ~hen the thickenings
have passed the ho~e the sides of the hole will return to their original
posit$on and secur~ aga$nst d$slocation of the leg ln relation to
the plate 9.
Withdrawal of the legs Srom the hole 11 requires slightly more
strength to press the sides sufficiently apart to allow pas6ing of
the thickening613.

The cross section of the legs 10 is flattened to facilitate their

to twist the leg out of the grip of the lip8, and this fact makes
it vastly easier to place the legs lO between the lip6 14 during
fastening.
As it appears Srom figures 4 and lO, the two spring-like fastening
devices 14~1~ are dislocated in relation to the center line of the
plate 15, a feature which, as already mentioned, allows the placing
oS the legs side by side in their fastened position, a6 shown in
Sigure6 10 and l~.
This cir6un~stance does not preventS however, placing of the legs lO
ln th~ two holes 11,16 nearest t~ the center, to be used for fastening
oS sheet6 with minimum interval between the holes, a~; the le~ are
then bent away from the center to be fir~ly locked opposite to the
bend towards the center shown.
The legs as shown are provided with a cylindrica~ end stop 12t but
there is of course nothing to prevent that the end of the stop $8
made angular to secure against turning o f the legs, as the side edges
oS the end stop in the said case will collide with the downward
stretching side edges of the bottom plate.
I S the fastening arrangement is to function as a permanent locking
device for a spring Sile or a filing dossier the bottom plate 9 may
in certain cases be left out. The cover can be provided with holes
through which the legs can be fastened in the same manner as they
are attached to the bottom plate 9~ In the said case only two leg6
and a plate with holes and spring locks are needed.
In case the cover is made oS plastic or i~ plast foil papered the
legs may furthermore be welded on for instance by way of ultra-sound.
In case lt 16 de6ired to u6e the whole 6trap for or ~ volume only, the
bottom plate with the legs may be Sixed to the inner side of the

The above specifications deal exclu6ively with paper sheets and
documents to be filed by way of the invention. It is, however, obvious
that even other items 6uch as samples of textile, foil or the llke
can be filed and fastened, in 60 far as the sald ob~ects being provided
with at lea6t two hole6 for penetration of the legs.

The device can be manufactured in all colour6t which may lighten the
task of filing considerably, if the same colour is used for alle
materials belonging together. The plate can be labelled for recordinga
or directly written upon.
