The present invention concerns a milling or ~rinding
devlce havlng a statlonary grinding disc and a rotatable
grinding disc coaxial to the stationary disc, said two
grinding discs having milling or grinding surfaces.
Wlth the term grindlng device is herein meant also such
device~ known a~ reflners and defibrators.
The object of the pre~ent lnvention i~ to provlde a
mllllng or grlndlng devlce o the above stated klnd, whlch
1~ ~ultable for qrlndlng (dl~aggregating) Yarious materlals,
both flbrou~ materlals, such as wood chlps, and other mate-
rlal~, ~uch a~ coffee and graln.
Another object of the lnventlon i8 to provide a grinding
devlce offering po~sibllities, during operation, to influence
the pattern of movement of the material to be ground as well
a~ lt~ tlme of treatment wlthln the devlce, ln order there-
by to lmpart to the materlal a more homogenou~ slze.
The~e ob~ect~ have been achleved ln that the grlndlng
~urface of the statlonary grlndlng dl w comprl~e~ a ~tandlng
maln portlon and a plurality of portlons belng excentrically
let lnto the maln portlon and belng separately drlveable ln
~electlve dlrectlon~ of rotatlon.
The ldea of the lnventlon, thus, 1~ to provlde two gene-
rally even grlnding ~urface~, of whlch the ~tandlng one for
lmpro~ement of the grlndlng capablllty ha~ been dlvld-d ln one
~tlll ~tatlonary portlon and ~everal ~eparately movable por-
tlon~.

hou~lng part 19
Up to now the devlce de~crlbed in all essentlal corre-
S ~ponds to a conventional grlndlng device or refiner
In the grlndlng devlce according to the present inven-
tlon, however, the grlndlng surface of the statlonary grlnd-
lng dl~c 1~ provlded wlth one or preferably a plurality of
lndlvidualIy rotatable grinding surface portions ~n prac-
tlce, this is accompllshed by rotatable grinding di~cs 29,whlch are planetarlly dl~poQed in relation to the grindlng
dl~c 11 and are let into the surface thereof The grinding
dlsc~ 29 wlll herelnafter be referred to as "planet dlscs",
wherea~, ln analogy therewlth, the rotatable dl~c 11 wlll
lS be referred to a~ ~sun dl~c~ and the ~tatlonary dl~c 27 a
~corona dl~c~
In the embod~ment of the lnventlon shown in flg lb all
planet dlsc~ 29 are located with thelr axe~ of rotation
equally dlstrlbuted along one and the same clrcle It would,
of cour~e, al~o be po~slble to arrange the planet dl~cs at
dlfferont radlnl level~ relatlve to the center of the sun
and corona dl~c~

torlals provldo- an un-~plnnlng actlon and on other materl~l~
a twl~t-cru-hing~ action AJ an ex~mple there 1~ ~hown ln
flg 7 and at a larger Jcale in flg 8 how a fa~clcle of

fibre~ 40 is twisted and torn under the influence of the two
directions of movement when the sun disc 11 and the planet
disc 29 are rotated in opposite directions (arrows 41 and 42,
respectlvely). In the posltlon shown, the far portion of the
S fa~cicle shown partly hidden in fig. 8 is in contact with
the grinding means of the sun disc and, thus, moves to the
rlght of the drawing, while its nearer portion, relatively
~een, move~ to the left, but above all downward~ due to the
contact with the portion of the planet disc 29 in this posi-
tion moving downwards in fig. 7.
When the sun disc and the planet disc~ rotate in oppo-
~lte dlrection~ (as in fig. 7) the invention brings about
the great advantage that un-fini~hed material, i.e. too big
particles thereof, when encountering a planet disc, wlll be
brought by that planet disc toward~ the center of the sun
and corona dlscs ~downward~ ln fig. 7) for further treatment.
Hereby a highly uniformly treated product will re~ult.
Al~o the materlal wlll notbe more treated than necessary,
whlch in turn re~ults in considerable energy saving~.
Accordlng to the invention the planet dl ~C8 29 can be
driven ln ~electlve dlrectlons o rotatlon ~f~g. 5) relatlve
to the rotatable sun dlsc 11, or ln alternatlng dlrectlon~.
In certaln ca~e~ lt may for lnstance be de~lrable to drlve
overy ~econd planet dlsc ln rlght hand revolutlon and every
~econd ln left hand revolutlon. The revolutlon ~peed may
al~o be lndlvldually varled.
The materlal of the planet dl~c~ and thelr ~urface
structure may be varled d-pendlng on the materlal to be
ground. In certaln ca~e~ a ~urface ~tructure havlng groove~
and protru~ion~ according to fig. 4, l.e. corre~pondlng to
the grlndlng mean~ 28, may be ~uitable. In other case~ pla-
net dlsc~ 29' of grlndstone materlal (f~g. 3) may be prefer-
red.Thi~ latter materlal ha~ the advantage that the planet
dlscs become ~elf-cleanlng.
