ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE:
Fastening means for attaching boards on a base,
e.g. on a wall or ceiling. They comprise a U-shaped
fixing piece located between the edges of the boards and
engaging therewith, and a T-shaped profiled strip which
covers a joint between the boards. The U-shaped fixing
piece carries spikes directed obliquely towards the base
and permitting the middle leg of the T of the profiled
strip to be introduced without exertion into the U channel
of the fixing piece, but able to resist pulling out of the
profiled strip from the U channel.

Revendications

Note : Les revendications sont présentées dans la langue officielle dans laquelle elles ont été soumises.

The embodiments of the invention in which an
exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined
as follows:
1. An improved fastening means for attaching
boards to a base, e.g. on a wall or ceiling, comprising:
a channel defining U-shaped fixing piece having a base
and spaced legs terminating at the free ends thereof into
outwardly directed lugs, said fixing piece being adapted
for attachment to a base and being disposed between the
edges of the boards with the outwardly directed lugs of
the piece in engagement with the exposed face of said
boards; a T-shaped profile strip having a rigid
plastically deformable middle leg, said strip being
adapted to cover a joint formed between the boards;
wherein the U-shaped fixing piece is provided with
oppositely positioned elastically deformable spaced
spike members formed as contiguous extensions of said
lugs and directed obliquely towards the base of the
fixing piece; said spiked members having pointed ends
spaced from one another to permit said middle leg of the
profiled strip to be received therein so that the spikes
bite into the middle leg of the profiled strip for
locking engagement therewith and with the under-
surface of the T adapted to engage the top surface of
said lugs, and the middle leg into the channel of the
fixing piece to resist withdrawal of the profiled strip
from said U-shaped fixing piece.
2. Fastening means according to claim 1,
characterized in that the spike members are formed by
projections punched out from the legs of the fixing piece.

3. Fastening means according to claims 1 or 2,
characterized in that the fixing piece is formed of
spring steel.
4. Fastening means according to claims 1 or
2, characterized in that the profiled strip is formed
of aluminum.

Description

l 1~9~2~
~ he present invention relates to a fastening
means for fixing boards on a base, for instance a wall
or a ceiling, comprising a U-shaped fixing piece located
between the edges of the boards and engaging with them,
and a ~-shaped profiled strip which covers the joint
between the boards.
The profiled strip serves the purpose of pro-
viding a tidy cover for the joint. Difficulties have
been experienced in their attachment so that they would
positively remain in place.
An object of the present invention is therefore
to provide an improved fastening means by which securing
of the boards is quickly accomplished and permanent
attachment of the profiled strip is ensured.
More specifically, and in accordance with the
broad concept of the invention, there is provided and
claimed herein an improved fastening means for attaching
boards to a base, e.g. on a wall or ceiling, comprising:
a channel defining U-shaped fixing piece having a base
and spaced legs terminating at the free ends thereof into
outwardly directed lugs, said fixing piece being adapted
for attachment to a base and being disposed between the
edges of the boards with the outwardly directed lugs of
the piece in engagement with the exposed face of said
boards; a T-shaped profile strip having a rigid
plastically deformable middle leg, said strip being
adapted to cover a joint formed between the boards;
wherein the U-shaped fixing piece is provided with
opposltely positioned elastically deformable spaced
spike members formed as contiguous extensions of said
lugs and directed obliquely towards the base of the
fixing piece; said spiked members having pointed ends
spaced from one another to permit said middle leg of the
profiled strip to be received therein so that the spikes
bite into the middle leg of the profiled strip for

locking engagement therewith and with the under-
surface of the T adapted to engage the top surface of
said lugs, and the middle le~ into the channel of the
fixing piece to resist withdrawal of the profiled strip
from said U-shaped fixing piece.
The attachment of the boards is thus made
easier with the aid of the invention, and the profiled
strip pressed into the joint is positively held in place.
Therefore, joints in walls as weLl as in ceilings are
permanently tidy and attractive.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is
characterized in that the spike members are projections
punched out from the legs of the fixing piece. Thus

the fixing piece is easy to manufacture since, together
with its spike members, it consists of an angulated piece
of sheet metal.
In another preferred embodiment of the invention,
the fixing piece is made of spring steel. Thanks to its
elasticity, the spike members bite well into the pro-
filed strip, which according to one embodiment is
aluminum.
A preferred embodiment of the invent.ion is
described hereinafter with reference to the attached
drawing, wherein:
Fig. 1 is a perspective ~iew of a fastening
means of the invention, about to be used;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the means of
Fig. 1, wherein the parts are assembled.
The means is used to mount boards 1, 2 on a
wall or ceiling. The base consists in this case of a
steel beam 3. Between the edges of the boards 1,2,
there are U-shaped fixing pieces 5 attachable by the aid
of screws 4 and engaging with the edges, and a T-shaped
profiled strip 6, which covers the joint between the
boards 1, 2. Each fixing piece 5 has spike members 7
directed obliquely.towards the beam 3, which permit the
middle leg 8 of the T of the profiled strip 6 to be con-
veniently pushed into the U channel of the fixing
piece 5, to resist withdrawal of the profiled strip 6
from the U channel.
The fixing piece 5 is affixed to the steel
beam 3 simultaneously with pushing the boards 1, 2 up
against the U legs of the fixing piece, and it is
tightened with the screw 4. The boards 1, 2 ar~
pressed between the beam 3 and the lugs 9 of the fixing
piece 5. Of the profile 6, the middle leg 8 is now
pushed ahead into the U channel of the fixing piece 5,
whereby it becomes engaged with the spikes 7 on the
fixing piece. The fixing of the boards 1, 2 is easily

accomplished, and the joint is very a-ttracti~e.
It is obvious to a person skilled, in the art
that different embodiments of the invention may vary
wi-thin the scope o~ the appended claim,s. For instance,
the fixing base must not necessarily be the steel
beam 3 shown in the example, it may on the contrary be any
conceivable base to wh,ich the fixin~ piece can be screwed
fast.
