Description

G A M E
The present invention relates to a form of cup which
has displayed thereon representations of a sport and more
particularly a game layout which in combination employs the
cup together with a mat representing a particular sports area.
There are many games of skill and chance on the market,
however, none are usable, as is the present concept, in a
restaurant or through fast food outlets. The cup may be used
by itself or in combination with the mat. The mat being a
rectangular place mat suitable for restaurant use.
In accordance with the present teachings there is
provided a cup having a closed flat base with sidewalls
extending symmetrically upwardly to form an open end of
larger diameter than the base, the cup has on one portion
thereof a representation of at least a facial replica of
a popular sports figure and in another area of the cup the
personal sports statistics of the sports figure. A lower
portion of the cup has displayed a series of figures in
various action poses representative of the sport played
by the sports figure whereby on rotation of cup the
series of figures appear to be animated.
By a further embodiment of the present teachings a
game layout is provided, the layout comprises in combination
a playing board in the form of a rectangular mat and a move
indicator in the form of a cup. The mat pictorially represents
a sport game and has a series of vertical lines across the
face of the representation terminating at a horizontal line
located below the representation . A series of arrow depicted

below the horizontal line clearly indicatoe the location
of the vertical lines. The cup comprises a closed flat
base with sidewalls extending symmetrically upwardly to
form an open end of larger diameter than the base. The
cup has, on one portion thereof, a representation of at
least a facial replica of a popular sports figure and in
another area thereof the personal sports statistics of
the sports figure. A lower portion of the cup has dis-
played thereon a series of figures in various action
poses representative of the sport played by the sports
figure. At the base portion of the cup are indicias
employing terms of the sport. The cup is placed on a
central portion of the mat and on being rotated, as
by spinning, said series of figures in various poses
appear to be animated. On ceasing rotation, the cup
will come to rest on at least one of the vertical lines
which will be aligned with an indicia on the base
portion of the cup to indicate a move to be taken by
a player.
Attention may be had to the drawing wherein:
Fig. lA shows one view of the cup.
Fig. lB shows another view of the cup after a
quarter turn.
Fig. 2 shows the mat to be used with the cup of
Fig. lA and B.
As shown in Fig. lA, the cup 10,at an upper outside
portion, a facial replica 12 of a well known sports figure
is displayed. At a further upper portion of the cup 10 is
provided the sports statistics 14 of the sports figure shown.
The team name, member and emblems may also be displayed in

this upper area of the cup 10. At the lower outside portion
16 of the cup 10 is displayed, around the full periphery of
the cup 10, various action poses 18 - 26 representative of
the sport played by the sports figure depicted in the upper
portion of the cup 10. As shown specifically in Fig. lA and
B the various action poses 18 to 26 represent a baseball player
at bat. When the cup 10 is rotated, as for example by spinning
in an upright position, the lower action poses appear, to the
eye, to be animated.
The cup 10 may be used alone for animation purpose or
may be used in combination with the mat 50 shown in Fig. 2.
Although the game is not restricted to the game of baseball,
Fig. 2 depicts a baseball diamond 30. As shown in the layout
there are several vertical dotted lines 32 at various locations
of the field. These vertical lines 32 terminated in a broken
horizontal line 34 beneath which are arrows clearly indicating
the location of the vertical lines 34.
The cup 10 as shown in Fig. lA and B has indicias 40 located
at the base portion of the sidewall, the indicias 40 being
representative of the sport under consideration; and for the
game of baseball represent one, two and three base hits, home
runs, strikes, balls and outs.
In playing the game, the cup 10 is positioned on the
central portion 42 of the baseball diamond represented on
the mat and rotated in an upright position by a player.
On ceasing rotation one of the ind;cias 40 at the base
portion of the cup 10 will align with one of

the vertical dotted lines 32 and the indicia 40 so aligned
will inform the player as to what action is to be taken, i.e.,
a strike, one base hit etc. The player continues rotating
or spinning the cup 10 until the required number of outs are
obtained. The cup 10 is then past to the second player for
his turn. An official score card 44 as shown in Fig. 2 may be
used to indicate the score for each play. In addition a
description of how the game i5 played and official rules of
the game may be provided at the bottom portion of the mat
as shown at 46 in Fig. 2. At either side of the playing area
of the mat 50 may be provided columns 48 which may include
specialty items, jokes, or other material of interest.
Althou~h in the drawings and for the purposes o~
illustration of the concept baseball has been shown, and
specifically a batter has been depicted in the action poses
at the lower portion of the cup. The invention should not
be restricted as to be confined to baseball only as other
sports may readily be exemplified as for example a basketball
figure may be shown and the action poses may depict dribbling
the ball or shooting the ball at a basket; a hockey figure
may be shown with the action poses depicting a player shooting
the puck or a goalie defending the nets; a football figure may
be shown with the action poses depicting passing the ball,
kicking the ball, receiving the ball and a soccer figure may
be shown with the actlon poses depicting kicking the ball or
a goalie defending the net.

The cup 10 may be formed of a plastic materials such
as styrene, or ethylene or may even be paper with the place
mat 50 being made of either plastic or paper materials.
The type of materials which is employed is not important
provided that the materials which are used are capable of
accepting printing.
The mat 50 employed in combination with cup 10 would
of course include the appropriate playing area with the score
board and rules revised accordingly.
Other sports may also be exemplified and horse racing
etc. thus applicant does not wish to be restricted to that
shown specifically in the drawing on file.
It will be obvious that various changes and modifications
may be made without departing from the invention and it is
intended, therefore, that all matter contained in the foregoing
shall be i.nterpreted as illustrative only and not as limiting
the invention.
