ABSTRACT
The invention relates to a cylinder (1) for printing
units of rotary printing presses with cylinder bearers
(3, 10) provided at either end on the cylinder end
faces (4), said cylinder bearers (3, 10) being fastened
on the cylinder (1) centrically with respect to the
rotational axis of the latter. The centring of the
cylinder bearers (3, 10) is unaffected by elastic
deformations in the region of the journals (2).

Description

Note : Les descriptions sont présentées dans la langue officielle dans laquelle elles ont été soumises.

The invention relates to a cylinder for printing units of
rotary printing presses wi-th cylinder bearers provided a-t
either end on the cylinder end faces, said cylinder bearers
being fastened to the cylinder centrically with respect ~o
-the rotational axis of the latter.
r~ .
A known design of this type (DE-OS 28 ~7 880) employs for
the mounting cE -the cylinder bearers conical seatiny surfaces
on the journals at either end oE the cylinder and ma-tching
conical counter seating surfaces in the cylinder bearer. The
pitch of the cones is such that the cylinder bearers are self-
locking after being pressed on and do no-t therefore require
any further fastening.
In the known design -the replacement of the cylinder bearers
requires a complex hydraulic device with which the cylinder
bearers are loosened from their seating surface. A further
essentia~l disadvantage of -the known design is tha-t -the
conical seating surfaces on the journals and in the cylinder
bearers have -to be produced with great accuracy, which has an
unfavourable influence on the price of th~ cylinder bearers.
The object of the invention is to create a mounting and
fastening configura-tion for the cylinder bearer on a printing
unit cylinder which guarantees precise centring, with which the
cylinder bearer is easy to install and remove and in which the
cylinder bearer, when installed, is unfluenced by elastic
deforma-tions oE surrounding par-ts so that mated-surface rus-ting
i~ prevented~
~he obiect oE the invention is achieved by the eatures of
Claim 1. ~his simple-to-man~l-Eac-ture and precise centring
da~ice EQr the c~linder bearer ~uarantees quick replacement
of a worn cylinder bearer and precise centring. Fur-thermore,
the cylinder bearer fastened directly to the cylinder end face
does not change its position on the cylinder body when there
is an elastic deElection o~ the journals. There is also no
danger of the cylinder bearer being destroyed by mated-surface
nl~-t;nq on the seating surfaces.

Further advantageous embodiments of the invention are
characterised in the subclaims.
Specimen embodiments oE the invention are presented in
diagrammatic form in -the drawings in which:
~
Fig. 1 is a partial longitudinal section through a cylinder
with c~linder bearer;
Fig. 2 is a par-tial longitudinal section thro~gh a cylinder
with cylinder bearer and different centring
configuration;
Fig. 3 is an end view of the cylinder bearer with cylinder;
Fig. 4 is an enlar~ed par-tial section of the centring
config~ration oE -the cylinder bearer.
The cylinder 1 may, for example, be a plate cylinder, a rubber-
covered cylinder, an impression cylinder or the like of the
type used in printing units on rotary printing presses. Such
cylinders are under mutual contact pressure which causes an
elastic deflec-tion o~ the journals ~. In order to be able to
precisely fix the distance be-tween -the individual cylinders
and thus the degree oE contact pressure, cylinder bearers 3
are provided at ei-ther end on the end faces, said cylinder
bearers 3 rolliny on each other, i.e. the contact pressure
between -the cylillders must be such -that when the press :ls in
` opera-tion the cylinder bearers cannot liE-t off each other.
Wi-th regard -to -the cylinder bearers 3 i-t is essential -that
-~hey be precisely cen-tered wi-th respect -to the rota-tional
axis o~ the cylinder. This requirement is met according -to
the invention in -tha-t provided directlv next to the cylinder
end ~ace ~ is a centring device which, as shown in Fig. 1,
has the form of a cylindrical centrinq ring 5 adjoining the
cylinder end face ~. The centring rin~ 5 in its turn has
a centring edge 6 which cooperates with a conical annular
centring surface 7 in such a way that it is elasticly and
plasticly deformed af-ter the cen-tring and fastening process.

A large number of long an-ti-fatigue bolts 8 are provided
in the region of -the journals 2 as c.~amping means for the
press connec-tion between the cylinder bearer 3 and the
cylinder end face 4. ~hus, the centring edge 6 serves
merely for the exact centrin~ of the cylinder bearer 3
~b while the anti-fatigue bolts 8 produce such a high contact
force of -the cylinder bearer 3 on the cylinder end face 4
that t~e radial engagement forces of the cylinders cannot
cause a change in position. If -the cylinder is removed,
Eor example, in order to replace the cylinder bearers, the
removal of the cylinder bearers from the centring edges
poses no prob, lems whatsoever and the new cylinder bearers
are centered ~ust as accurately as the ones previously
used and are afterwards bolted to the cylinder body to form
one unit.
The specimen embodiment shown in Fig. 2 differs from the
one previously described in -that a conical annular centring
surface 9 is provided directly jux-taposed to the cylinder
end face 4. For centring, -the cylinder bearer 10 has a
centring edge 12 in its centric bore 11 on the side facin~
the cylinder 1. This version therefore differs from -that
in Fig. 1 in that the cen-tring edge 12 is provided on -the
cylinder bearer 10 whereby -the mode of opera-tion, i.e. the
centring oE the cylinder bearer, is precisely ide'n-tical to
the version described in Fig. 1.
In Fig. 2 an arrow 13 shows how the journals bend elas-ticly
with tha cylinder~ engaged and rota-tlng withou-t -the cen-tring
of the cylindar bearer being aEfec-ted. The deflection of
the journals .in -the example shown is ra-ther exaggerated and
i5 in practice merely a Eew ~m.
Fig. 3 shows the cylil1der bearer 3, lO from the front end
and the anti-fatigue bolts 8 provided in the region of the
journals 2. The two bores 14 are provided for -the known
clamping spindles in the cylinder 1 tnot shown).

~'
The eentring device based on E'ig. 1 and shown in enlarged
Eorm in Fig. 4 shows in a highly exaggerated manner the
elastie and plastic defor~mation of the eentring edge 6.
In praetiee, the eooperation of the eentring edge 6 wi-th
the conieal annular eentring surface 7 is sueh that the
edge is only permanen-tly deformed to such an ex-tent -that
highly preeise eentring is main-tained. Both the eentring
edge 6 as well as the cen-tring edge 12 May be of sharp-
edged design. In praetice, however, a slight rounding
or a very narrow ehamfer on the centring edge has proved
successful. The radius used or the width of the chamfers
is merely a fraction of a millimetre.
This new mounting and fastening configura-tion for the
eylinder bearer 3, 10 on a printing unit eylinder
guarantees preeise eentring with high true-running accuracy
of the eylinder bearer whereby -the latter is easy to install
and remove and does not partieipa-te in elastic deformations
of surrounding par-ts due to the press connec-tion wi-th the
c,ylinder end face 4 with the result that ma-ted-sur~ace
rusting is also largely prevented.
