A B S T R A C T
A sports-shoe, more particularly a skate shoe
The invention relates to a sports-shoe, more particularly
a skate shoe of the type with which the upper is bent about the edges
of the full-length sole member and attached to the lower size of the
latter, recesses being provided in the forefoot portion and in the heel
portion of said sole member adapted to receive the heads of screws
to be used for the detachable connection of the shoe and the fore and
aft pedestals of a Nordic skate, said sole member having reinforcing
portions on the lower side which are provided with openings corres-
ponding with each of said recesses and adapted to receive the shanks
of the screws while forming a bearing shoulder for each of said screw
heads, whereby the sole member and the reinforcing portions are
integrally formed as a stiff sole plate of a ridged plastic material,
said sole plate being provided with marginal recesses on its lower
side adapted to receive the bent edge portions of the upper.

the forefoot portion and in the heel portion of said sole member adapted
to receive the heads of screws to be used for the detachable connection
of the shoe and the fore and aft pedestals of a Nordic skate, said sole
member having reinforcing portions on the lower side which are provided with
openings corresponding with each of said recesses and adapted to receive
the shanks of the screws while forming a bearing shoulder for each of
said screw heads, characterized in that the sole member and the reinforcing
portions are integrally formed as a stiff sole plate of a ridged plastic
material, said sole plate being provided with marginal recesses on its
lower side adapted to receive the bent edge portions of the upper.
2. A shoe according to claim 1, characterized in that said sole
plate has flat bearing areas for the fore and aft pedestals, said areas
being positioned in parallel planes, the distance between which
corresponds to the difference in height between the fore and aft pedestals
of the skate.
3. A shoe according to claims 1, characterized in that the sole
plate is reinforced in the areas around said openings by means of small
metal plates, which are embedded in said sole plate at the site of said
bearing shoulders between the screw head and screw shank receiving portions
of said openings.
4. A shoe according to claim 3, characterized in that said plates
are shaped as a rather flat U, the flanges of which are bent laterally
outwardly and arranged transverse to the longitudinal direction of the
sole member, while laying flush with the upper side of the sole plate.

Title: A sports-shoe, more particularly a skate shoe.
The invention relates to a sports-shoe, more particularly a
skate shoe of the type with which the upper is bent about the edges of
the full-length sole member and attached to the lower side of the latter,
recesses being provided in the forefoot portion and in the heel portion
of said sole member adapted to receive the heads of screws to be used
for the detachable connection of the shoe and the fore and aft pedestals
of a Nordic skate, said sole member having reinforcing portions on the
lower side which are provided with openings corresponding with each
of said recesses and adapted to receive the shanks of the screws while
forming a bearing shoulder for each O r said screw heads.
Such a skate shoe is disclosed in NL-A-8200091. With this
shoe the full-length sole member consists of the conventional flexible
insole of leather, on which the upper, while making use of a shoe last,
is attached as by stapling. As a result of this the central area of the
lower surface of the sole member will become positioned offset with
respect to the bent edge portions of the upper. And the shallow cavity
thus obtained and surrounded by the bent edges of the upper is then
filled up by a weight material, such as cork, after which the
reinforcing portions are being applied. The reinforcing portions consist
of separate heel and forefoot plates of metal, which are fastened on
the sole member as by riveting. The heel and forefoot plates in fact
correspond to those, which are soldered to the forehand aft pedestals
of a traditional Nordic skate which is designed for a permanent
connection with the shoe
The invention aims it improving the well-known skate shoe
above referred to by providing a sole member of a simpler construction,
as well as a greater stability of the connection between the sole
member and the fore and aft pedestals of the skate.
According to the present invention this aim is achieved in
that the sole member and the reinforcing portions are integrally formed
as a stiff sole plate of a ridged plastic material, said sole plate
being provided with marginal recesses on its lower side adapted to
receive the bent edge portions of the upper. The manner of fastening
of the upper has, in fact, remained the same. The filling up by cork
and the application of separate metal heel and forefoot plates, however,

have fallen off, while the realization of the openings and recesses for
the fastenings screws has become substantially simpler, as these openings
and recesses may be obtained while mounding the sole plate.
In a preferred embodiment, which is also particularly
advantageous in the event of a transverse adjustability disclosed in the
above patent application, the sole plate has flat bearing areas for the
fore and aft pedestals, said areas being located in parallel planes,
the distance between which corresponds to the difference in height between
the fore and aft pedestal of the skate.
The invention will hereinafter further described by way of
example with reference to the accompanying drawing.
Fig. 1 shows a perspective view of a shoe according to the
invention mounted on a Nordic skate and
Fig. I 2B and 2C show a perspective bottom view, a
longitudinal cross-sectional view and a perspective view from above
respectively of the full-length sole member of the shoe according to the
invention.
The shoe swats combination represented in Fig. 1 has a shoe
consisting off the upper 1, the marginal portion of which is, in a
manner known per so, bent about the edges of the full-length sole member
2 and attached to the latter by staples 3. The upper is composed, in
B a manner known per so, of the external upper leather lay the n
upper leather1b and the heel reinforce me puce lo applied therein
between.
The sole member is shown in detail in Fig. AWOKE and consists
of a stiff mounding piece of a suitable plastic material, such as
polypropylene. It is provided with a marginal recess 4, adapted to
receive the bent marginal portion of the upper so as to keep said marginal
upper portion flush with the central area of the sole member. As shown
pa in the drawing, the bottom of the marginal recess extends, when seen
from the center of said sole member outwardly, gradually upwardly
according to a convex profile. The seem between the edge of the bent
marginal portion of the upper and the shoulder pa confining the inner
periphery of the recess 4, may be covered, as in the example shown,
by an adhesive coating of plastics material. In Fig 1 the fore and aft
pedestal and the runner of a special type of Nordic skate are designated
at 6, 7 and 8 respectively. For a detailed description of such a skate,

as well as of the fastening of it to a ho reference is made to
NOAH.
..
With reference to Fig. AWOKE passage openings 9 and 10 are
provided in the forefoot portion and the heel portion of the sole member
2 for fastening purposes. These passage openings are formed as transverse
slots and are counter bored at their upper ends such that bearing
shoulders are formed to support the heads of the fastening screws to
be used, while said heads will become countersunk relative to the
upper surface of the sole member. The sole plate is reinforced in the
area around the said openings 9 and 10 by means of small metal plates
11 and 12 respectively (see Fig. PA and 2B) embedded therein, said
metal plates being shaped as a rather flat U, the flanges aye and
aye of which are bent laterally outwardly.
The said plates are arranged transverse to the longitudinal
direction of the sole member (see Fig. PA) in such a way, that the
flanges aye and aye are flush with the upper surface of the sole member
(Fig. 2B), while the web portions of the flat u-profiles containing the
spots 9 and 10, are constituting the bearing shoulders for the fastening
screw heads The sole areas surrounding the passage openings 9 and 10
on the lower side of the sole member and adapted to bear on the flat
upper sides of the pedestals 6 and 10, are flattened and located in
parallel planes, the distance between which corresponds to the
difference in height between the pedestals 6 and 7.
