~;~6SS5~
This invention relates to an agenda system variously
known heretofore as a calendar or diary.
Such calendars or diaries generally comprise a book
having a marginal index number corresponding to the days of the
month. The pages under each number of the inde~ are divided
into twelve 6ections, bearing the designation of the successive
months and also ~he day of the week corresponding to the day of
the month represented by the index, e.g. as taught in United
States Patent 1,368,672, patented February 15, 1921 ~y G.
Wilkinson. A salient feature of such diaries was that entries
when made were permanently inscribed in the diary and could not
conveniently be trans~erred to another location.
Attempt~ have been made to minimize the re-scribing of
entries in a diary or other permanent record or chart. For
example, Dazey in United States Patent 3,115,351 patented
December 24, 1963, provided a solicitation kit for fund eaising
drives. The Dazey invention provided a multisheet individual
contributor's ead where carbonized paper was employed and in
which a single printing of the individual contributor ' 6 name
provided various sheets that could be used on the material tha~
would provide a record of the worker'~ name contacting the
contributor, and would further provide a ~ecord of the periodic
intended contribution of the contributor, d~ well as a receipt
form.
Steom, in United States Patent 4,000,915, patented
January 4, 1977, provided a consumer diary. The Strom
invention provided a diary and reporting device which had a
folder with top and bottom covers hinged together. When opened
- 2 -

flat, an information entry sheet composed of a general data
section or ~one and an item data ~one was exposed. The item
data zone was keyed or indexed to data entry guide book pages
for instructions as to what data to enter for each type of item
reported. An entry index facilitated use of the guide book.
All componen~6 of the folder were removable and/or replaceable,
as by mean6 of tabs or edges on each item engaging cooperating
slots or pockets in the folder cover, tO facilitate regular
reporting and periodic changes in the ~urvey information to be
gathered.
Lockhart, in United States Patent 4,159,129, paten~ed
June 26, 1979, provided a pharmaceutical record and label
system. In one embodiment of the Lockhart invention, a backing
6heet capable of stoeing information relative to pharmaceutical
perscriptions had a first 6eries of adhesively-backed
pharmaceutical prescrietion ~abel 6egments removably secured
thereto, each label segment having formatted zones thereon for
facilitating entry of typed information and accommodating
simultaneous transfer of typewriter impre66ions to the backing
sheet. ~ second series of supplemental data segments on the
backing sheet provide for recording of ~upplementary
i.nformation with respect of each label segment
contemporaneou~ly with the typing of the label segment. ~fter
removal of a prescription label segment from the backing sheet,
the backing sheet had stored thereon both the formatted
information as entered on the label segment, and necessary
supplemental data ~o as to facilitate computerized
pharmaceeutical accounting.

~5~
Pendergrass, in United State6 Patent 4,400,017
patented Aug 23, 1983, provided an integrated budget and check
record book. In the patented register for recording budget
items and check items, ~he regi6ter had a first plurality of
sheet6 for recording budget items and a second plurality of
sheets for recording check items wherein at least a portion of
the second plurality of shee~s was also reserved for recording
a budget category. The first and second plurality of sheets
were secured for movement about a central axis in book-like
fashion and were independently movable with respect to each
other foc permitting alignment of longitudinal lines contained
on the first plurality of sheets with longitudinal lines
contained on the second plurality of sheets.
Maetin, in United States Patent 4,489,95~, patented
December 25, 1984, provided a personal time management
instrument. In the patented instrument, a sheet for personal
time management was provided with an activity section and a
calendar section to provide an entire week ' 6 scheduled
activities over the same woeking hours each day. ~ plurality
of such sheets could be incorporated into a book so as to
provide a permanent record on a day-to-day basis of what wa~
planned to be done and what had beon done. 'rhQ activity
section had a wide vertical column with horizontal lines to
define Epaces in which an activity may be weitten. rrhe
calendar 6ection had vertical subcolumns, one of which
designated each day in the time period, while the other
contained blocks which were subdivided to designate 6equential
times in a day.
-- 4

~26555~L
OtheI proposed solutions to thi6 eroblem have been
suggested in the form of auxiliary sheets which could be
adhesively secured to various area6 of preprinted sheets. For
example, Osborne, in United 5tate~ Patent 1,979,283, patented
November 6, 1934, provided an accounting system. In ~he
Osborne system, a chart wag divided into numbered rows, or
columns, and coupons were furnished which were adapted to be
secured to the chart with the coupons arranged in rows at right
angles to the numbered rows, the various coupons in any row
overlapping shingle-wise, so that each attached coupon became
associated with a certain specific numbered row or column.
Thus, if the first-mentioned row6 or columns were numbered from
unity con~ecutively, the number at the head of the last column
in which a coupon was attached indicated the number of coupon
row. Each coupon was formed with dried adhesive on a portion
of the back thereof adjacent one end for a region corresponding
to the width of a numbered column. The matter it repre~ented,
was printed or written on the face of the coupon. Near the
opposite end from the gummed region, the rate or other numeral
on which the computation was to be based was printed on ~he
face. When such coupons were secured to the chart, in a
horizontal row, for instance, the coupons o~ the ~ame rate
being arranged in the same row, and overlapping each other ~o
that each successive coupon was attached in a succeeding
vertical column, then the total amount for any particular row
of coupons would be the product of the rate on the coupon times
the number at the head of the column to which the last coupon
WaB at~ached.

Johnson, in United States Patent 4,116,470, patented
September 26, 1978, provided a medical information form for a
plurality of individual reports, The pa~ented form included a
base or carrier sheet which was selectively coated with pressure
sensitive adhesive which was concealed by a protective removable
release sheet. The release sheet was subdivided into a plurality
of interconnected, independently-removable panels, each of which
concealed an area of the base or carrier sheet and a portion of
the adhesive pattern which was to be occupied by a single report.
Another and significantly different attempted solution to
lo the problem was provided by Townsend, in United States Patent
1,070,084, patented August 12, 1912, as a so-called
procrastenator's calendar. In that invention, a calendar was
provided which included separate extra memorandum pads in
connection with the calendar which were independent of the
divisions of time insofar as the memoranda on the pads may remain
in sight regardless of the disposal made of the sheets of the
main calendar pad as time elapsed. Hence, it was said to be
possible to keep the memoranda in sight until the different
matters referred to therein were attended to, regardless of the
lapse of time.
2() Nevertheless all these proposed solutions did not solve the
problem of avoiding making repetitive entries in a diary or
calendar.
By a broad aspect then, this ~nvention therefore provides a
universal agenda system unrestricted by a specified year. Such

~2~555~

universal agenda system includes a pair of covers, i.e. a front
cover and a back cover; and a plurality of sections between the
covers. Such sections include a primary divider sheet section
comprising a plurality of primary divider index sheets assembled
in book-like form between the covers, each primary divider sheet
being of a selected first width and being provided with a
proJec~ing primary marginal index ~ab bearing primary indicia on
at least the front face thereof, all tabs of this divider sheet
section being visible when the front cover is opened. The
sections include a secondary section disposed in operative
association with the primary divider index sheet section, the
secondary section comprising a plurality of sheets, each sheet
being provided with a projecting secondary marginal index tab,
each tab bearing an indicia at least on the front face thereof,
the width of each sheet including its proJecting secondary
marginal index tab being equal to, or less than, the width of the
primary divider sheets without its pro~ecting primary marginal
index tab. The secondary section includes: i), a twelve-index-
sheet combination, each sheet of that combination being provided
with a proJecting marginal index tab bearing an indicia
indicative of one of the twelve months of the year, in descending

optional tertiary sheet associated wi~h the secondary thirty-one-
index shèet combination. The ninth step comprises, at a later
time, removing the inscribable sheet bearing the inscribed
message from the first selected region of the selected sheet of
the thirty-one-index sheet combinaeion, vr from an Dptional
tertiary sheet associated with the secondary thirty-one index
sheet combination~ and affixin~ the same inscribable sheet
bearing the inscribed message ei~her to the reverse side of the
lo "TODAY" primary divider index sheet, or to a selected sheet of
the thirty-one-index-sheet combination, or to an optional
tertiary sheet associated with the secondary thirty-one-index
sheet combination. The tenth and eleventh steps involve moving
the "THIS MONTH" and the "NEXT MONTH" primary divider index
sheets monthly to satisfy the requirements of the third step and
the fifth step, and moving the "TODAY" primary divider index
sheet daily to satisfy the requirements of the sixth step.

It is important for the successful operation of the loose-
leaf book embodiment of this invention that there be complete
visibility of the tabs within each section. Thus, thère is a
critical interrelationship between the width of the primary
divider index sheets, the secondary index sheets and any blank or
lightly printed auxiliary or supplemen~al base sheets which may
optionally be tertiary sheets for use with the secondary index
sheets.
For example, the primary divider index sheets may be 8 7/8"
wide, including the tab, but only 8 3/8" wide excluding the tab.
The second~ry index sheel:s may then be 8 3/8" wlde including the
tab. The secondary index sheets include two e~sential sub-
sections, namely:

~L2~555~
- 18 -
(a) first secondary index sheets (namely thirty-one index
sheets representative of the thirty-one possible days
of the ~onth);
and (b) second secondary index shee~s (namely twelve index
sheets representative of the twelve months of the
year).
If auxiliary or supplemental base or blank sheets are used
as tertiary sheets, they may be 8" wide and need not include any
tabs. The tertiary sheets may be considered as third secondary
1~ sheets.
The two essential components r,lay be used for affixation of
adhesive-coated sheets and/or the two essential components may be
preprinted with various inscriptions.
As noted abo~e, the secondary index sheets and the tertiary
sheets are narrower than the primary divider index sheets to
provide the essential visibility. Alternatively, the primary
divider index sheets and the secondary index sheets may use
different widths of e~tended tabs to provide the essential
visibility.
Dealing firstly with Figs. 1-13, as seen in Fig. 1, the
AGENDA system (10) includes a loose leaf binder lll) with various
sections, each consisting of a plurality of sheets inserted
therein on rings (12). Fi~,. 1 StlOW~ the fro~t (left hand! insi~le

In use, as appointments, meetings, schedules, etc., are made
or developed, they are inscribed for the one and only time
on a POST-IT sheet, and is placed in the proper time slot, i.e.
the month and day. Each month, the "THIS MONTH" primary divider
index sheet (16) is moved to the current month, e,~, MAY, Rach
day, the "TODAY" primary dividor indox sheet (17) Ls moved to the
proper day of the month, e.g. 26, and any appointments, meetings,
etc. for that day are automatically seen on the right hand sheet.

~6SSSl
- 29 -
Once the appointments, meetings, etc. are completed, ~he
sheet hearing the inscribed message for such appointments,
meetings, etc. may be placed in the appropriate section, i.e. the
month and day of the "RECORDER" section. On the other hand, if
the appointment9 meeting, etc. is rescheduled, the POST-IT sheet
bearing the inscribed message is placed in the appropriate "NEXT
MONTH" section, to be met automatically as the "TODAY" indexed
sheet is inserted therein.
The "NAME ROSTER" section is used for alphabetic placement
lo of names, addresses and telephone numbers which are inscribed on
the POST-IT sheets and placed at the appropriate alphabetic
indexed section. This section may also be used for the placement
of business cards, using an adhesive system, e.g. the KWIK-MOUNT
system previously described, at the appropriate alphabetic
indexed section.
