ABSTRACT
Process for assembling two elements, such as panels,
and assembly of these two elements
According to this process, a certain number of
holes (5) for screws (4) are drilled in the first element
(1), a layer of anti-adhesive agent (8) is deposited on
the surface of the first element (1) and plates (3) are
fixed to this element (1) by screws. Recesses (7) adapted
to receive the plates are arranged in the second element
(2), a layer of adhesive (10) is deposited on the face of
the second element (2) which is turned towards the first
element (1), and the assembly of the two elements is
effected by fitting the plates (3) in the recesses (7) by
adhesive bonding, the first element then being removable
and remountable by unscrewing and screwing up again.
Application in particular to the construction of vehicle
door panels.

ZOl9901
-- 1 _
The present invention relates to a process for
assembling two elements, such as panels capable of
forming an outer skin and an inner skin of a vehicle
door.
At present the connection on a metallic door
between the outer skin and the inner skin of a door is
ensured by tacking and fastQning the first on the second;
leaXproofness is ensured by a strip of mastic or of
adhQsive.
On a plastic door, the connection between the two
p~n~ ~ff~cte~ ~r adhesi~ bond~g.- ~n bo~h c~ses,
the outer skin cannot be separated without damage tG the
door.
In accordance with the process which is the - .
obtect of the invention, a certain number of holes for
screws are drilled in the fir~t element, a layer of anti- ..
adhesive agent i8 deposited on the surface of tho first
element, drilled pl~tes are pl~ced against one of the
faces of this element, opposite the abovementioned hole~
~0 the plates are fixed to the said element by screw~, a
l~yer or strip of adhesive is deposited on the f~ce of
the second element which is turne~ towards the.fir~t

br ~dhesi~Je~e.-di~ng,.~theif~rst ~ement then b~ing reDov--:
able and remount~ble by unscrewing and screwing up again.
Remounting of the first element, whlch can for -.
example be ~n inner panel of the vehicle door, is easily .-
done since its position has been predetermined by
~dhesively bonding the plates on the second element.
In the case of a vehicle door, this arrangement
h~s the ~dvantage that it permits a rapid and dis-
assemblable connection between two panels of a, for ..
ex~mple, plastic, door.
Ihe assembling of two elements such as panels
~ccording to this process is.ch~r~cterized in th~t the
first element is provided on one of it~ faces with plates
flxed to the element by ~crew , the surface of this .-~
ol _ nt surrounding the pl~tes is coated with an anti-
~dheJive aq~nt, the face of the second element which i8

turned towards the first element is coated with a strip
of adhesive facing the plates, which ensures a connection
between the two elements, which can then be separated by
~n~crewing.
The invention will now be described with refer-
ence to an embodiment illustrated by way of nonlimitative
example in the drawings.

of two elements formed by panels capable of being as-
sembled in accordance with the proce~s which is the
o~ec~ af the invention. ,

panel, provided with plates and screws, of the a~sembly
according to the invention.

panel of Fig. 2.

assembly of the two elements of Figs. 2 and 3.

on one of its faces, namely its face, turned~towards the

example of steel. These plates 3 are fixed to the panel
1 by respective, screws 4 capable of passing 'through
corresponding tapped holes 5, 6 respectively arranged in
the panel 1 and in each plate 3, the latter being dis-'' -
tributed at regular intervals at the perimeter of the
panel 1, from which they protrude. The plates 3 are ''
partially housed in undercuts 9 of the element 1, from ''~' -
which they likewise partially protrude towards the
panel 2.
In the vicinity of its periphery, the second
p~nel 2 has recesses 7 adapted to receive the plates 3 of f
the panel 1 and having dimensions slightly larger than
those of the plates 3, t~king into account the po~ition-
ing tolerances between the two panels. The surface of the

panel 1 i~ coated with an anti-adhesive 8 (Fig. 2) while
a strip of adhesive 10 is deposited on the inner face of
the second panel 2 on at least part of its periphery, in
the recesses 7 and between the latter. This strip 10
extends opposite a corresponding strip formed by the
anti-adhesion agent 8.
To assemble the two panels 1 and 2, the procedure
is as follows:
- first of all, the strip 8 of anti-adhesion
agent i~ deposited on the face of the panel 1 which is
tur~d t~ward~ the pa~L ~
- the drilled plates 3 are fixed on the face of
the panel 1 which is turned towards the panel 2 by virtue
of the screws 4 screwed into the corresponding holes 5,
6 (Fig. 2),
- a layer of adhesive formed, for example, by the
strip 10, is deposited on the face of the second panel 2
turned towards the panel 1 and the first panel 1 is then
applied to the second panel 2 in such a wsy as to house
the plates 3 in the recesses 7. The plates 3 snd the
panel 1 are then fixed to the panel 2 by the layer of
adhesive 10, while the anti-adhesive agent 8 between the

7 of the plates 3. In addition, the strip of adhesive 10
en~ures leakproofness between the psnels 1, 2.
To remove the first panel 1, it i~ then suffi-
cient to unscrew the screws 4, the plates 3 remaining
fi~ mly fixed to the panel 2 by adhesive bonding. The
remounting of the panel 1 can be effected without dif-
ficulty by screwing the screws 4 back into their cor-
responding holes 5, 6.
The panel~ 1 and 2 can be metallic or made of a
3S pla~tic material and can consi~t, for example, of an
outer ~k$n 2 and an inner skin 1 of a vehicle door 11, as
repre~ented in Fig. 5. It will be noted that, after
re~v~l of the outer skin 2, the exact initial position
can be reloc~ted ea~ily and autom~tically by virtue of

the plates 3, which have remained firmly fixed to the
outer skin 2.
As a variant, the recesses 7 and undercuts 9 can
be replaced solely by recesses 7 or solely by undercuts
