ABSTRACT
An automatic fishing gut binding machine is constructed to
easily bind fishhooks to fishing gut and, in addition, to

THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE
PROPERTY OF PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:
Claim 1
The Automatic Fishing Gut Binding Machine has the following
distinctive features:
A upper magnetic unit and a slide pedestal are fixed into a
rail which is set on a pedestal. Or, a movable slide
pedestal containing a reel bridge unit and the lower
magnetic unit are composed as one unit and then set on a
slide pedestal which is installed on the rail. Cutting-
stops are set as individual units inside both the slide
pedestal and the side wall of the reel bridge unit, which is
set above the pedestal. In addition, there is a U-shaped
cutting-stop set in the reel bridge unit. An elastic piece
is fitted inside this U-shaped cutting-stop.
One end of the base panel unit is fixed to the end of the
rail, which is on the pedestal. The other end of the base
panel unit holds the string-suspension sheet. In addition,
the twisting gear fixed plate, which has a cutting-stop, and
the twisting gear, which likewise has a cutting-stop, are
also installed (as one unit) in the base panel unit.
The twisting gear is fitted next to the No.3 gear, which is
installed in the base panel unit. The No.3 gear is fitted
next to the No.2 gear, which is bound to a lever set in the
stopping-section (which holds the open-shut panel). The
No.2 gear is fitted next to the No.1 gear, which has a
handle installed and a stopper hole set into it. In
addition, the No.1 gear is set next to a stop-sheet, which
is installed in the base panel unit on a board or other
structure made of strong material.
The other end of the stopping-section extends in the
direction of the above-mentioned reel pedestal, where it is
set.
Besides the above gears, the twisting gear pedestal is also

composed of a stopping-section base panel unit, and an
elastic piece which is installed as a stopping control.
stopper hole is set at one end of the pedestal, and it can
be attached or removed at will. Rope-suspension rods, which
have grooves of varying thickness, are also set up at this
end of the pedestal. Moreover, a cutter is set on the rail,
at the other end of the pedestal.
Claim 2
The reel pedestal, which is described in Claim 1 of the
Automatic Fishing Gut Binding Machine, has the distinctive
feature of being furnished with a pulley and is located on
the sliding pedestal. The sliding pedestal holds the reel
bridge unit, which is composed of upper and lower magnetic
sections.
Claim 3
The twisting gear pedestal, whose distinctive features are
stated in Claim 1 of the application, is composed of the
twisting gear, No.3 gear, No.2 gear, and No.1 gear.
Depending on the action of the twisting gear pedestal, the
No.2 gear, or the No.3 gear, can be slowed. This
distinctive feature is stated in Claim 1 of the application.
Claim 4
The distinctive features of the reel pedestal (stated in
Claim 2 of the application) and the twisting gear pedestal
(stated in Claim 3 of the application) are stated in Claim
1 of the application for the Automatic Fishing Gut Binding
Machine.

Description of the Prior Art
In the fishing industry, since long a~o and right up to the
present, fish have been caught in large quantities throuyh
the use of nets, rods, and extended lines. This has been
the situation in Japan as well as in most countries of the
world. Recently, there have been large numbers of requests
for the use of extended lines and rods rather than the use
of nets due to the value of captured fish, demands for the
protection o~ natural resources, and other reasons. Due to
these factors, but primarily due to economic demand, the
fishing industry based on the use of extended lines has been
flourishing. This is the case where rods are used but it is
also particularly true where extended lines are employed.
These extended lines, or main fishing lines, are comprised
of large quantities of fishing gut and fishhooks. Fishhooks
in large quantities are tied to the fishing gut, and large
quantities of the fishing gut are, in turn, attached to the
main fishing line.
~s for the above operation, it may involve a main fishing
line of a short' 3 km, or a long 15 km. If fishing gut
with hooks attached to it (hooked fishing gut) is tied to
the main fishing line at intervals of 30 to 50 cm, an
immense amount of time and labor is required to complete
this job. Up until now, the work o binding fishhooks to
fishing gut and tying hooked fishing gut to the main fishing
line has been done completely by hand.
On days when they do not go out to sea, fishermen and their
families attach by hand, one at a time, fishhooks to the
fishing gut, making large quantities of hooked fishing gut.
Then they take the lines of hooked fishing gut (these are of
course much shorter than the main fishing line) and bind
them, one at a time, to the main fishing line at fixed
intervals. Therefore, depending upon the kind of fish to be
caught, it often requires over a month's time to make a
single main fishing line. In addition, in order to attach
the fishhooks to the fishing gut and, in turn, to attach the
hooked fishing gut to the main fishing line, considerable
skill is required. ~omen, children and inexperienced
individuals do not do the binding skillfully. In fact, even
for skilled fishermen, the job of tying hooked fishing gut
to several kilometers of a main fishing line is a big
operation re~uiring an extraordinary amount of time.
It is in the above way that fishing gut is hooked, and
hooked fishing gut is bound to main fishing lines - all by
hand. There is no use of machines, apparatuses, or tools.

An Invention ~o Solve the Problem
~s was said earlier, the tying of fishhooks to fishlng gu~
and the binding of hooked flshing gut to the main fishing
line is performed completely by hand. Due to this factor
the work is highly labor intensive and requires a prodlgious
amount of time to complete. In addition, dependincJ on the
type of fish-to be caught, ishhooks must be bound ~irmly to
the fishing gut, and li]cewise, the hooked Eishing gut must
be firmly tied to the main fishing line. A substantial
amount of skill and physical strength is re~uired for -this
work. For women, children, and novices, this labor is
difficult. Moreover, because the fishhooks are of different
sizes and shapes, some even quite large, occasionally
injuries occur whereby the fishhook tip, or an inverted
fishhook, pierces someone's hands or fingers. There is also
the case when an individual is unaccustomed to the handling
o~ the fishing gut. ~t such times, fishing gut and lines
~ecome entangled causing not only inconvenience, but
some-times even injury.
DETAILED EXPLANATION OF THE INYENTION
Use in Industry
This invention is use~ul for tying string to fishhooks,
rope, or other line. This machine is particularly useful
~or tying fishing gut to fishhooks or the main fishing line.
A Means for Solving the Problem
In order to eliminate the excessive time and labor required
in the binding processes, and, in addition, for the purpose
of making the tying of fishhooks and hooked fishing gut a
safer procedure, the ~utomatic Fishing Gut Binding Machine
has been invented and possesses the following distinctive
features.

pedestal containing a reel bridge unit and the lower
magnetic unit are composed as one unit and then se-t on a
slide pedestal which is installed on the rail. Cutting-
stops are set as individual units inside both the slide
pedestal and the side wall of the reel bridge unit, which is
set above the pedestal. In addition, there is a U-shaped
cutting-stop set in the reel bridge unit. An elastic piece
is fitted inside this U-shaped cutting-stop.
One end of the base panel unit is fixed to the end of the
rail, which is on the pedestal. The other end of the base
panel unit holds the string-suspension sheet. In addi-tion,
the twisting gear fixed plate, which has a cutting-stop, and
the twisting gear, which likewise has a cutting-stop, are
also installed (as one unit) in the base panel unit.

The twisting gear is it~ed next -to the No.3 goAr, wh.Lch is
installed in the base panel uni~. The No.3 gear is fitted
next to the No.2 gear, which is bound to a lever s~t in the
stopping-section ~whic}l holds the open-shut panel). The
No.2 gear is fitted next to the No.1 gear, which has a
handle installed ~nd a stopper hole set in~o it. Irl
addition, -the No.1 gear is set next to a stop-shee~, which
i5 installed in the base panel uni-t on a board or other
structure made of s-trong material.
The other end of the stopping-sec-tion extends in -the
direc~ion of the above-mentioned reel pedestal, where it is
set.
Besides -the above gears, the twisting gear pedestal is also
composed of a stopping-section, ~ase panel unit, and an
elastic piece which is installed as a stopping control.
A stopper hole is set at one end of the pedestal, and it can
be attached or removed at will. Rope-suspension ro~s, which
have grooves of varying thickness, are also se-t up at this
end of the pedestal. A cutter is also set on tha rail, at
the other end of the pedestal.
The Automatic Fishing Gut Binding Machine has another
special feature, which is a pulley installed in the reel
pedestal of the slide pedestal. The slide pedestal holds
the reel bridge unit composed of the upper magnetic unit and
the lower magnetic unit. This information is stated in the
foregoing Claim 1 of the application.
The Automatic Fishing Gut Binding Machine has an additional
special feature which is described above in Claim 3 of the
application. By means of the twisting gear pedestal, which
houses the No.3 gear, No.2 gear and the No.l gear, the speed
of the No.2 gear or the No.3 gear, whichever, can be
decreased. Additional features of this invention include a
reel pedestal (described in the foregoing Claim 2), and a
twisting gear pedestal (described in the foregoing Claim 3).
Through the invention of the Automatic Fishing Gut Binding
Machine, a quick and efficient way has been found for
binding fishhooks to fishing gut, as well as for binding
hooked fishing gut to the main fishing line. Hence, the
problem of excessive time and labor used in the binding
process has been eliminated.
Illustrated Example
Below, we will explain the Automatic Fishing Gut Binding
Machine using the drawings located on the final pages of
this application. Figure 1 shows the entire invention.
Figure 2 is a drawing of part of this new invention,
displaying the reel pedestal and a portion of the gears.
And, Figure 3 is a representation of part of the invention
showing the twisting gear pedestal.
(1) is the pedestal. This pedestal (1) is a flat board and

it can ~e made of metal, ~lastic or other material. It
should be made rom material that l.s as ligh~ and as stroncJ
as possible. Plastic is used i.n particular, because it l.s
light and does not rust.
(2) is the rail which is set on the pedestal (1). The rail
(2) allows the movement of the reel pedes-tal (3). In
addition, it is able to move horizontally. One need not
call into question the composition of the rail (2); if it is
made of -the same plastic material as that of the pedestal
(1), this is satisfactory. In addition, this rail (2) can
be fixed to the pedestal (1), or it can be fixed to the
pedestal (1) in such a way that one is able to freely attach
or remove it. Moreover, at one end of -the rail (2) a stop
is provided, thus ensuring -that the reel pedesta~ (3) does
not separate from the rail (2).
(3) is the reel pedestal which is constructed in the
following way. The reel pedestal (3) is composed of the
upper magnetic unit (6) and the slide pedestal (4), or it is
composed of the upper and lower magnetic units [(6) and (5)
combined as one unit] and the slide pedestal (4). The reel
pedestal (3) is installed on the surface o~ the rail (2) in
such a way, that it is able to move along the rail.
The slide pedestal (4) can also be furnished with a pulley.
Once again, one does not have to question the type of
material the reel pedestal (3) is made of; a plastic
material is fine. The slide pedestal (4), which is part of
the reel pedestal (3), is installed on the rail (2) so that
it is able to move along the rail.
The lower magnetic unit (5) is fixed to the top of the slide
pedestal (4). The upper magnetic unit (6) is set on top of
the lower magnetic unit (5). The reel bridge unit (6') is
composed of the upper and lower magnetic units (6 and 5).
As for the upper magnetic unit (6), since it is attached to
the lower magnetic unit (5) through the use of a magnet, it
can be attached or removed freely at will. However, this
magnet is of considerable strength in order that the unit
will not slip off or come out of place.
If the reel bridge unit (6'), which is affixed to the upper
and lower magnetic units (6 and 5), has a columnar shape, it
is fine, but its shape is usually compressed. This is so
that when the fishing gut is wound around the reel bridge
unit (6'), the fishing gut will not easily slip off.
(7) is the U-shaped cutting-stop which is set in the reel
bridge unit (6'). Because this U-shaped cutting-stop (7) is
set (as one unit) in the upper magnetic unit (6) of the reel
bridge unit (6') and in the lower magnetic unit (5), when
the upper ~agnetic unit (6) is removed from the lower

magne~ic unit (5), each of the magnetic UllitS appears to
have almost ~.he same shape
(~) is the elastic par-t. A spring-shape is used in most
cases for this part but other materials are also acceptable.
The elastic part (~) is fitted in the side wall of the
cutting-stop (7), which itself is set in the reel bridge
unit (6') oE the lower magnetic unit (5). This elastic part
(8) is set so that part of it makes contact with the side
wall of the cutting-stop (7) of the lower magnetic unit (5),
which forms the reel bridge unit (6'). This prevents the
upper magnetic uni-t (6) from slipping off or coming out of
place. Moreo~er, the elastic part (8) is also set so that
it can expand and contract vertically. When pressure is
exerted onto the head of the elastic part (8), it is
compressed into the side wall of the cutting-stop (7) of the
lower magnetic unit (5); then the elastic part (8) slips
away from the side wall of the upper magnetic unit's (6)
cutting-stop (7) and is pressed completely below. Even
though it is compressed below, in the next instant, it
expands and returns to its original state.
(9) is the cutting-stop set in the reel bridge unit (6') and
in the side wall of the slide pedestal (4). This cutting-
stop (9) is formed as one unit in the reel bridge unit (6')
and the slide pedestal (4). Fishhooks and other things are
fixed to the cutting-stop (9) temporarily. I this cutting-
stop (9) was not present, fishhooks could not be tied, and
nor could hooked fishing gut be bound. Moreover, the
cutting-stop (9) can also be provided for at an optional
place on the reel bridge unit (6').
(10') is the twisting gear pedestal which includes a base
panel unit (10), twisting gear (11), and twisting gear fixed
plate (12). The twisting gear (11) and the twisting gear
fixed plate (12) are installed as one unit at the other end
of the base panel unit (10).
(11) is the twisting gear. A U-shaped cutting-stop (12') is
set in the twisting gear (11).
(12) is the twisting gear fixed plate. The twisting gear
(11) and a similar U-shaped cutting-stop (12') are also set
in the twisting gear fixed plate (12). Moreover, a string-
suspension sheet (13) is set in the side wall of the
twisting gear fixed plate (12). The string-suspension sheet
(13) can exist as one unit with the twisting gear fixed
plate (12), or it can simply be installed by itself.
(14) is the No.3 gear. The No.3 gear (14) together with the
twisting gear fixed plate (l2) do the work of making the
twisting gear (11) rotate.

(15) is the No.2 gear. This No.2 year (15) is also
installed or the purpose of making the twisting gear (11)
move. For the purpose of effectively driving ~he gears
forward, and to simultaneously preven-t the gears from
reversing, the No.2 gear is equipped with a lever (16) which
is installed in the stopping-section (19).
(17) is the No.l gear. It is provided with a stopper hole
(18) and a handle (17') to make the gears rotate. Thus, you
have gears linked in succession from the No.l gear (17) to
the twisting gear (11). In addition, there is the stopper
hole (18). The stopper hole (18) is se-t in the side wall of
the No.l gear (17). But it does not always necessary follow
that a stopper hole (18) must be provided for in the side
wall of the No.1 gear (17). There are other means by which
stop functions can be carried out. One example, would be
that of using a control pulley.
(19) is the stopping-section. The stopping~section (19) is
installed in the base panel unit (10) in such a way so that
it can move. The open-shut panel (20) is set in this
stopping-section (19). Depending upon the movement of the
stopping-section (19), the stop-sheet (21), which is
installed in the super-board (or a board made of some strong
material) of the base panel unit (10), opens and shuts and
the base panel unit can be freely attached or removed from
the stopper hole (18).
The other end of the stopping-section (19) extends in the
direction of the reel pedestal (3). At the tip of the
stopping-section (19) one is able to install a bumper, made
of rubber or other cushion-like material.
(22) is the elastic part which controls the stopping action
between the base panel unit (10) and the stopping-section
(19). Usually it is a spring. Through the action of the
reel pedestal (3), pressure is put on the stopping-section
(19), forci.ng the stop-sheet (21) to separate from the
stopper hole (18). After a given binding action takes
place, once again, the stop-sheet (21) fits back into the
stopper hole (18) with the elastic part (22) carrying out
the absorption action. By means of the elastic part (22),
the rotation of the No. 1 gear automatically stops after a
given number of rotations. With this invention, when the
No.1 gear (17) is made to rotate once, the twisting gear
(11) rotates twice. In addition, when the No.l gear (17) is
made to do a half-rotation, the twis~ing gear (11) will
rotate once. This No.1 gear (17) rotates in a clockwise
direction. Thus, we have the actions o$ the twisting gear
pedestal (10') which is assembled in the way described
above.

Note t~lat the ~isti.ng gear pedes-tal (10') :is not a].w~s
composed of four gears joLned together - it can, in fact,
be slmply made up of three ~ears. Under this scenario, the
number of rotations difers and the No. 1 gear rotates in a
counter-clockwise d.irection.
(23) is the rope-suspension rod set in the pedestal (1).
There are ~wo of these rods. One can permanently fix the
rop~-suspension rods (23) to the pedestal (1), but with this
particular invention, the rope-suspension rods (23) are set
so that they can be freely attached or detached. The heads
of the two rope-suspension rods (23) are provided with
grooves of varying thickness to accommodate the main fishing
line, whose diameter can vary. Depending on whether the
diameter of the main fishing line is large or small, one is
able to choose a groove which is most suitable. Moreover,
since the rope-suspension rods (23) can be attached or
detached at will, i-t is also possible to use other rope-
suspension rods (23) containing grooves with varying degrees
of thickness.
(2~) is the cut-ter which holds a blade. When the fishhooks
are tied to the fishing gut, or when the hooked fishing gut
is bound to the main fishing line, this cutter (24) is used
to cut away the excess line.
The following is a description of how the operation is
carried out, whereby the fishhooks are tied to the fishing
gut, and the fishing gut with fishhooks attached, is tied to
the main fishing line. First, for the purpose of tying the
fishhooks to the fishing gut, the fishhook is put into the
cutting-stop (9), which is set in the side wall of the reel
bridge unit (6'). Next, one end of the fishing gut is run
securely through the string-suspension sheet (13), which is
set in the twisting gear fixed plate (12), and then the
fishing gut is wound a number of times (the number of times
is left to the discretion of the operator) around the reel
bridge unit (6'), which holds the fishhook.
At the same time that the fishing gut is tied round the
compressed part of the reel bridge unit (6') the fishing gut
will be visible at the cutting-stop (7), which is set in the
reel bridge unit (6').
Next, the reel pede~tal (3) is made to move along the rail
(2) in the direction of the twisting gear pedestal (10').
Due to this movement, pressure is put on the stopping-
section (19) of the twisting gear pedestal (10'), through
the action of the open-shut panel (20); the stop-sheet (21)
separates from the stopper hole (18) while simultaneously
the cutting-stop (7) set in the reel bridge unit (6~), the
twisting gear (11) and the cutting-stop (12'), which is set

as one un.it with the -twisting ~ear fixed plate (:L2), all.
enter the enga~ed conditlon.
In this condition, one holds -the handle (17') which is
installed in the No.1 gear (17) of the twisting gear
pedes-tal (10'). The No.1 gear (17) is made to rotate and
this ro-tation in turn makes the No.2 gear (15), No.3 gear
(1~), and twisting gear (11) rotate. The twisting gear (11)
rotates with the twisting gear fixed plate (12). While
rotating, -the twisting gear (11) grasps the fishing gut
which is strung through the string-suspension sheet (13) of
the twisting gear fixed plate (12) and wraps the fishing gut
around the circumference of the fishing gut which is wrapped
around the reel bridge unit (6'). Through one fixed
rotation of the No.1 gear (17), the stop-sheet (21) falls
into the stopper hole (18) and stops. Simultaneously, the
handle (17') locks. Then, as the reel pedestal (3) is
pulled to this side the fishing gut passes through the
magnetic units (6 and 5) in an instant. Simultaneously, the
elastic part (3) installed in the cutting-stop (7) of the
reel bridge unit (6') contracts, this action also occurring
in a flash. As a result, fishing gut i~ then bound to the
fishhook set in the cutting-stop (9).
Even as the fishing gut passes in an instant between the
upper magnetic unit (6) and the lower magnetic unit (5),
both magnetic units (6 and 5), through the effect of the
strong magnetism and the action of the elastic part (8), do
not slip or fall off. It is in this way that the fishing
gut is bound to the fishhooks.
Next, is the binding of the fishing gut containing fishhooks
to the main fishing line. The main fishing line passes
through the twisting gear (11) and the cutting-stop (12'),
both of which are installed as one unit with the twisting
gear fixed plate (12), and is fixed to the rope-suspension
rods (23) of the pedestal ~1). Then, one end of the hooked
fishing gut is fastened to the string-suspension sheet (13),
which is set in the twisting gear fixed plate (12). In
addition, the fishing gut is wound round the reel bridge
unit (6'). After doing this, the operation is the same as
that for binding the fishhooks to the fishing gu~. In this
way, through this operation, one is able to easily tie the
fishhooks to the fishing gut, and the fishing gut containing
hooks can be bound to the main fishing line.
The Effectiveness of the Invention
It is in the above way that this invention, which is
constructed as described above, is able to bind fishhooks to
fishing gut. It is also in the above-mentioned way that

this invention is able to bind fishing gut containing
fishhooks to the main fishing line. I-t i8 for these
purposes that this machine was invented.
Fo.rmer operations by hand were too time-consuming and labor-
intensive. Now, there is not only a great reduction of time
and labor, but skilled fishermen and even women and children
can easily bind the fishhooks to the fishing ~ut. In
addition, 1shLng gut containing hooks can be easily tied to
the main fishing line.
There is no doubt that this invention is highly useful and
effective. Moreover, up until now we have not come acro~s
any o-ther machines similar to this invention. We think that
the price of this machine is high, but because one of the
strong points of the invention is that it can be made of
plastic, it can be offered for sale at a comparatively
inexpensive price.

SUM~RY OF TME INVENTION
1. Purpose
To easily bind fishhooks -to fishing gu-t and, in
addition, to easily fasten fishing gut which has
fishhooks attached to it, to the main fishing line.
2. Composition
The invention has a magnetic panel body, cutting-stops,
movable reel pedestal, and linkage of gears. When the
No.1 gear rotates, the twisting gears rotate.
Moreover, there are also distinctive features such as
a stop mechanism, gear mounting, rope-suspension rods
and a cutter.
