TITLE: REMOTE DATA TERMINAL
ABSTRACT
A REMOTE DATA TERMINAL made up of a body made of epoxy resin covered
with protecting rubber in "integral skin", with a part being substantially in a box shape
on the lower face of which is a support or clamp to attach said equipment to a proper
place on the vehicle panel while on its right side face has an emergency key and also
on its upper face a video display is located and finally the face or front part of said
box has an extension similar to a panel, where besides existing an operating key and
a call-bell/alarm, an anatomic cable is coupled which a cable is attached to that in
its turn is innerly attached to the electronic part, fully mounted inside said body the
same being constituted of the following blocks: a processor, a program memory
implemented in EPROM having a 32 kbyte capacity, a data memory implemented in
RAM having a 32 kbyte capacity and an option to be operated in a not volatile way,
an operating key, sensor follow up, operation and controller of the display, thereby
allowing the information handled by the board computer to be transmitted to the
central station.

6. A "REMOTE DATA TERMINAL" according to claim 1, characterized in that
the operating key board is made up of two key assembly, the first one is
implemented by one key only which is used to show the special emergency
condition while the second one is implemented by three keys and allows the
performance of all interface - man-machine.

7. A REMOTE DATA TERMINAL comprising
a body,
attachment means for attachment of said terminal to a vehicle panel,
an emergency key,
a video display,
a panel portion comprising,
an operating key,
and a call-bell/alarm,
an anatomic cable attached to an electronic part,
said electronic part being mounted inside said body and comprising
a processor,
a program memory,
a data memory,
and
an operating key, sensor follow up, operation and controller of the display,
thereby allowing information to be handed to a board computer to be
transmitted to a central station.

~3~2~7
This invention patent refers to a '~PMOTE DATA TERMIN~" or more
particularly to a portable equipment specially developed to be applied as a board
terminal for use in different vehicles incorporated to satellite communication systems,
such as it occurs for instance with some road transportation vehicles types since in this
S and in other transportation classes a parallel following system is important from their
origin place departure to their arrival at the address place. As it is known to
everybody several load t~pes do require special care concerning safety, not only due
to possible thefts but also relating to accidents in general and other similar si~uations
as well, including also aspects or data on the travel itself and the vehicle, as well as
10 on its driver so as a precise control of the situation can be achieved of course to
guarantee or establish a right travel and a possible safety to driver, vehicle a:nd load.
l'he main object of the terminal in ~uestion is to add more an equipment being able
to substantially improve the operating aspect of a satellite communication system
15 since the main features thereof guarantee the necessary requirements to such
application, ~hat is to say, it is a ligh~ and small equipment in construction; its
hardware is designed to be used in hostile environments; includes a liquid crystal
display with 132 alphanumeric characters having a graphic capacity; has 3 operating
keys and one more to dnve a special emergency condition; has 32 kbyte RAM
20 memory (not volatile) plus 32 kbyte EPRS:)M memory; is fully mounted to box like
body made of epo~ resin covered with protecting rubber in an "integral skin", and has
an ergonomic design allowing the equipment ~o be operated by one of the hands only.

2~3~7
In order this invention patent shall be better understood a detailed description thereof
shall be given with reference to the attached drawings wherein~
Figure 1 is an upper view of said equipment;
S Figure 2 is a side view of said equipment; and
Figure 3 is a view of a block diagram of said equipment.
According to such drawings and details ~hereof, more particularly to ~lgures 1 and 2
this "REMOTE DAT~ TERMINAL" is characterized by firstly being mounted to a
10 body (1) made of epoxy resin covered with protecting rubber in "integral skin", with
a part (2) being substantially in a box shape on the lower face of which is a support
or clamp ~3) to a~tach said equipment to a proper place on the vehicle panel while
on its right side face has an emergency key (4) and also on its upper face is located
a video display (S) and finally the face or front part of said box (2) has an extension
15 (6) sirnilar to a panel, where besides existing an operating key board (7) and a call-
bell/alarm ~8~, an anatomic cable is coupled which a cable (9) is attachiod ~o ~hus
making up an ideal body which in addition to having an ergonomic design allowing
the equipment to be operated by only one hand has also resources to the assembly
of the electronic part, as schematically shown in figule 3 where one c~n see that the
20 same is constituted of the following blocks: a processor ~10), a program memoI,Y (11)
implemented in EPR~OM having a 32 kbyte capacity, a data memo~y (12)
implemented in RAM having a 32 kbyte capacity and an option to be operated in a

213~2~7
not volatile way, an operating key board (7-4), a sensor follow up (13), an operation
(14) and a controller (15) of the display (16).
PR~:)CESSOR (10) - a microcontrs:)ller of in~el family 8051 working at 11 MHz is
S used; uses address and data bar codes to access the program memory (11) and data
memory (12); uses its inlet/outlet gates for interface, o~perating key board (4-7),
sensor follow up (13) and operation (14).
Three serial channels are implemented: channel 1- implemented by inlet/outlet
10 gates and used for communication with controller (lS) of the display (16); channel 2 -
implemented by inlet/outlet gate and used for communication with board cvmputer
(BC); and serial channel 3 - implemented by USART of the microcomputer, and used
for communication with TRANSCEIVER (T).
15 Processor (103 is connected to transceiver (T) by the serial channel 3 to perorm all
steps of sending to and receiving messages from the central station of satellite
cornmunication system.
Should a board computer (BC) be installed in the vehicle, processor (10) can be
20 connected thereto by the serial channel 2, thereby allowing the in~orma~ion handled
to the board computer (BC) to be transn~itted to the central sta~ion.

~13~Q7 ~ ;~
The operating key board is made up of two key assembly (4) and ~7), the first one is
implemented by one key only which is used to ~ow the spec;al emergen~y conditionwhile the second one is implemented by three keys and allows the performance of all
interface - man - machine.
