SET OF PROFILED STRIPS FOR THE MOUNTINQ
OF WINDO~1S IN A VEBICLE
The invention relates to a set of profiled strips
for the mounting of windows on the inside of passenger
, transportation vehicles, in particular buses.
The mounting of window-panes on the inside of
buses and the like is fairly complicated since it is
scarcely possible to resort to standard parts . Generally,
therefore, individual solutions are designed and con-
strutted, which makes a significant difference in terms
of cost. There has already been an attempt to design
those profiles which run in the longitudinal direction
and are used as parapet strips such that they are more or
less uniform, and certain successes can even be obtained
in the process. However, these proffiles were unable to be
used if the window side struts were to be mounted in the
manner such that they look good. In this respect, indi-
vidual solutions then had to be used again with a corres-
ponding outlay on labour and costs.
The present invention is therefore based on the
object of making available a set of profiled strips for
the mounting of windows on the inside of, in particular,
buses, by means of which set the installation problems
mentioned above can be minimized.
The set of profiled strips according to the
invention only needs three profiles, namely a base
profile, a covering profile and an adaptor profile. In
addition, a cover is also required.
The particular advantage of the invention resides
in the fact that work can be carried ,out continuously

with these three profiles and that, in particular, there
is only one base profile now which can be arranged on the
parapet region and on the pillar region. The base pro-
file, which consists of the section of an extruded
profile, is expediently fastened by means of screws to
the struts which, for their part, can have different
pillar widths. When the distance between a vehicle
interior panel and a window-pane varies, the first limb
of the base profile may need to be shortened, which can
be brought about without especial outlay by trimming. The
fastening of the covering profile, which likewise con-
sists of the section of an extruded profile and can
extend over the entire length of the vehicle, on the base
profile can take place rapidly and simply via a clip
fitting. The fastening of the adaptor profiles, which
consist of sections of an extruded profile, on the base
profile also takes place via a clip fitting, which is
extremely simple to carry out, with the respective cover
being arranged, by fastening, at the same time.
An exemplary embodiment of the invention is
explained in more detail below with reference to the
drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 shows the interior view of a bus side
wall having windows,
Fig. 2 shows a section following the line II-II
in Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3 shows a section following the line III-
III in Fig. 1.
Fig. 1 shows a horizontally aligned strut 1,
which extends over the length of the vehicle and forms
the lower window end, and struts 2, which are arranged
approximately vertically aligned on said strut 1.
The struts 1 and 2 define window openings for
window-panes 3 inserted therein. A strut 4, to which, for
example, an air duct may be connected, forms the upper
window end.
In order to impart an aesthetically attractive
appearance to the interior of the vehicle, the struts 1
and 2 require the panel or mount. A set of profiled

- 3 -
strips, which set consists of a uniform base profile 5,
a covering profile 6 and a uniform adaptor profile 7, is
used for this.
The base profile 5 is suitable and intended for
the arranging, by fastening, along the horizontally
extending struts 1 and on the vertically aligned struts
2. The base profile 5 has a first limb 8, the free
longitudinal edge of which is supported against a window
pane 3, and a second limb 9 is aligned at an angle to
said first limb, can be laid against the struts 1 and 2
and can be fastened thereon by means of screws 10. At the
same time, a vehicle interior panel 13 (Fig. 2) can also
be held by this process. To simplify fitting, a conti-
nuous web 11, which forms a right angle with the second
limb 9, is integrally formed on the rear side of the
second limb 9. The base profile 5 furthermore has an
undercut groove 12 with a clip holder, which groove
extends continuously in the region between the first limb
8 and the web 11. A clip web 14, which is provided with
a continuous thickened head portion, is integrally formed
on the free end region of the second limb 9, in an angled
alignment.
The limb length of the first limb 8 on the base
profile 5 is matched to the maximum size between the
vehicle interior panel 13 and a window-pane 3. Another
possibility consists in designing the limb length such
that it is shorter from the outset and pushing an auxi-
liary plug-in profile 15, which can be provided with a
soft application lip, onto the free limb end. In order to
obtain a secure grip for the auxiliary plug-in profile
15, with which, of course, component tolerances are to be
compensated for in a simple manner, the first limb 8 is
provided on the rear side with a longitudinally continu-
ous corrugation 16 or a saw-blade-like toothing. This may
also be of assistance in the event of any trimming of the
first limb 8, which may be required if the differences in
size are relatively large.
The base profile 5 consists of the section of an
extruded profile of finite length and is formed from the

CA 02279687 1999-08-06
- 4 -
material having clip properties, in particular plastic.
The covering profile 6, which has already been
mentioned, belongs to the set of profiled strips. In the
same manner as the base profile 5, this covering profile
6 is formed from the section of an extruded profile,
preferably from plastic, and can extend continuously over
the entire side wall length of the particular vehicle.
The covering profile 6 is approximately U-shaped, seen in
cross section, and on the rear side of the U-web has an
integrally formed clip web 17 for clipping into the
undercut groove 12 on the base profile 5, and also an
undercut clip holder 18 for clipping in the clipped web
14 on the base profile 5.
The abovementioned adaptor profile 7 also belongs
to the novel set of profiled strips and consists of
sections of an extruded profile, preferably of plastic.
The adaptor profile 7 can be arranged on the particular
base profile 5 to the left and right of the struts 2. The
adaptor profile 7 has a clip web 19, which is integrally
formed on the rear side in a continuous manner, for
clipping into the groove 12, which serves as the clip
holder, in the base profile 5. The adaptor profile 7 has
a covering function and a holding function. The holding
function is required for a cover 20, which in each case
spans the struts 2 and can consist of sheet-metal strips,
plastic strips or the like, and is achieved by a grooved
holder 21.
A step-shaped shoulder 22, which is provided on
the first limb 8 of the base profile 5, is used for the
surface-flush end between the base profile 5 and the
covering profile 6 of the adaptor profile 7.
