Revendications

Claims to the Invention
What is claimed is:
1. A blanket for use to keep a child securely covered from under the armpit
level down the child's torso and legs,
loosely over the child's feet, and over the child's legs and torso, up to the
armpit level.
2. A blanket according to claim 1, fastened in place by means of releasable
and adjustable fasteners located at or near
the edges of the blanket, preventing a child from uncovering itself and/or
kicking it aside.
3. A blanket according to claim 2 has releasable and adjustable fasteners
comprised of hook and loop fasteners.
4. A blanket according to claim 2 allows for edges along the sides to be
folded over and fastened together.
5. A blanket according to claim 2 is loose in the leg area allowing for
kicking and other leg movements.
6. A blanket according to claim 2. can be adapted for various sizes
comfortable to cover, under and over, children of
various age groups.

Secure Baby Blanket
Field of the Invention
This application relates to a baby blanket that is designed in such a way as
to prevent a baby from kicking the blanket
away or pulling it over a baby's face. Further, a baby covered in this blanket
is ready to be safely lifted by a caregiver,
without a danger of an unsafe gripthrough a loose blanket, where a baby could
be dropped. Further, after lifting, a baby
stays covered, and there is no need to manipulate a loose blanket covering a
baby while holding it. The Secure Baby
Blanket allows for a continuous coimfort of a baby, which stays covered
before, during, and after lifting from a horizontal
position. Further, a baby covered in the Secure Baby Blanket, being ready to
be safely lifted, will be lifted more often,
and therefore it will benefit from a more frequent cradling not only by
primary, but also by secondary caregivers.
Background of the Invention
A common nuisance in taking care of a baby, or an older sick child, is to make
sure that the child stays covered, thus
keeping the child warm.
At present, it is a common practice to cover a. baby with an ordinary blanket
that does not ensure that a baby will stay
covered for a time intended by a caregiver. After covering a baby, a caregiver
may find the blanket kicked aside or over
baby's face and a baby as a result may be cold. The common remedy is to fasten
the blanket in place with safety pins, or
with pieces of string tied to the balusters of the crib. Both methods pose a
hazard to a baby's safety.
The other existing solution to the yroblem is a baby's sleeping bag. However,
the sleeping bag tends to overheat a baby,
due to its warming quality as a bag;, regardless of the fabric used. The
Secure Baby Blanket takes into account that an
overheated baby tends to kick. Thc; baby's kicking will cause the lower part
of the side folds to open, allowing cooler air
in. Thus, the Secure Baby Blanket allows a baby to control its own comfortable
temperature level under the blanket.

As opposed to a baby's sleeping ba;;, the Secure Baby Blanket allows for the
full mobility of the baby's legs and body,
and an easy access to check the diaper without disturbing a sleeping baby.
A sleeping bag does not allow for a snug fit at the baby's armpit level,
therefore a baby is not secure during lifting. A
baby that is covered in the Secure E~aby Blanket, 'invites' secondary care-
givers, that otherwise would not feel
comfortable lifting a baby through a loose blanket or a sleeping bag, to do
so, and a baby benefits from being cradled
more often.
Summary of the Invention
The Secure Baby Blanket fulfills the need of keeping a baby or a sick child
safely and securely covered for an extended
period of time.
The Secure Baby Blanket allows better control of the temperature under the
blanket. A baby is empowered to control the
temperature by kicking or moving.
It allows a caregiver to move a covered baby between cribbed and hands of a
caregiver, stroller/baby carriage, and baby
car seat, with greater confidence.
It allows for a greater safety of a baby by eliminating a need for remedies
commonly used but hazardous, like securing a
loose blanket with safety pins, or pieces of string. It prevents a baby from
pulling a loose blanket over its face and
causing suffocation. It prevents a b~~by from chewing on the edge of a
blanket.
A snug fit of the top of the Secure Baby Blanket allows a baby to find a
'lost' pacifier or a toy, that otherwise would be
out of a baby's reach under a loose blanket.
