What is claimed is:
1. A method for automatically and mechanically inserting a snood into an eye
of a hook
and into a swivel eye fastened to a fishing line characterized by:
drawing the fishing line through the device until it stops on the swivel eye,
wherein the swivel eye is aligned with a main eye of a stanchion;
aligning a steering pipe mounted in a sledge and movable within the main eye
with the swivel eye;
aligning the eye of the hook with the swivel eye;
directing snood material from a snood material roller with a controlling wheel
through a control tube, which has a slit underneath, and through the
steering pipe, swivel eye and hook eye to a grip holder;
attaching the end of the snood material to the grip holder;
forming a first loop with the portion of snood material going through the hook
and the snood material end;
fastening the first loop closed with a fastening device;
releasing the snood material end from the grip holder;
pulling the snood material from the roller by a towing device to produce a
sufficient length;
forming a second loop of snood material with the snood material fastened to
the hook and the snood material pulled from the roller;
fastening the second loop of snood material; and
cutting the snood material.
2. The method of claim 1 wherein the step of fastening the second loop of
snood
material involves attaching a fastening member with a fastening device.
3. The method of any one of claims 1 and 2 wherein the step of cutting the
snood
material involves moving the sledge further downwards until the snood material
contacts a cutting device.
4. The method of any one of claims 1 to 3 wherein the steering pipe is no
thicker than
the main eye.

5. The method of any one of claims 1 to 4 wherein the step of forming the
second loop
involves moving the sledge downward so that the steering pipe moves down
within
the main eye, thereby pulling the snood material from the roller down through
the slit
in the control tube and down from the swivel eye, thereby forming the second
loop of
snood material with the snood material fastened to the hook.
6. The method of any one of claims 1 to 5 wherein the step of forming the
first loop
involves pulling the hook downward with a towing device.
7. The method of any one of claims 1 to 6 wherein the step of cutting the
snood material
results in a new snood material end, which is returned to the roller.
8. The method of claim 7 including the additional step of returning the sledge
and
steering pipe to be aligned with the swivel eye and control tube for repeated
operation.
9. The method of claim 8 wherein the method is repeated for another hook.
10. The method of any one of claims 1 to 9 wherein the snood material is
selected from
the group consisting of yarn, monofilament and nylon.
11. The method of any one of claims 1 to 10 wherein the fastening member is
selected
from the group consisting of clips, staples, clamps and links.
12. The method of any one of claims 1 to 11 wherein the fastening device is
selected from
the group consisting of a clipping device, welding device, fusing device and
staple
device.
13. The method of any one of claims 1 to 12 wherein the grip holder that holds
the end of
the snood material is a set of grip pliers or a thrusting pin.
14. An apparatus for automatically and mechanically inserting snood material
into an eye
of a hook and into a swivel eye fastened to a fishing line, comprising:
a main eye of a stanchion, located so that the swivel eye is aligned
therewith;

a steering pipe mounted in a sledge and movable within the main eye;
a control tube having a slit underneath and aligned with the swivel eye;
a snood material roller aligned with the control tube;
a grip holder for holding the end of the snood material;
a fastening device for attaching fastening members to the snood material;
a towing device for pulling the snood material from the roller; and
a cutting device located beneath the sledge;
wherein the eye of the hook is aligned with the swivel eye.
15. The apparatus of claim 14 which further comprises controlling wheels
located
between the control tube and the roller for directing the snood material from
the
roller.
16. The apparatus of claim 14 or 15 further comprising a first loop formed
from the
snood material held in the grip holder and the snood material pulled from the
roller.
17. The apparatus of claim 16 wherein the first loop is held closed with a
first fastening
member.
18. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein upon release of the snood material end
from the
grip holder, the towing device pulls the snood material from the roller to
produce a
length sufficient for fishing.
19. The apparatus of any one of claims 16 to 18 further comprising a second
loop of
snood material formed from the snood material fastened to the hook and the
snood
material pulled from the roller.
20. The apparatus of claim 19 wherein the second loop is held closed with a
second
fastening member.
21. The apparatus of claim 20 wherein the cutting device cuts the snood
material.
22. The apparatus of claim 21 wherein movement of the sledge downward brings
the
snood material into contact with the cutting device.

23. The apparatus of any one of claims 14 to 22 wherein the snood material is
selected
from the group consisting of yarn, monofilament and nylon.
24. The apparatus of any one of claims 14 to 23 wherein the fastening member
is selected
from the group consisting of clips, staples, clamps and links.
25. The apparatus of any one of claims 14 to 24 wherein the fastening device
is selected
from the group consisting of a clipping device, welding device, fusing device
and
staple device.

FISHING TACKLE
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a fishing tackle, a computerized device and a
method for
mechanically and automatically inserting a snood into an eye of a swivel which
is fastened to
a fishing line or mainline and into an eye of a hook both on land and on sea.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Traditionally the snood and the hook have been manually tied to the fishing
line itself or to a
swivel attached to the line. Sometimes there is a loop on the end of the snood
and as such the
snood is "looped" into the swivel. All this, manually done, requires much
labor.
Accordingly, automation of these parts would be both time-and labor saving.
In U.S. Patent No. 4641452 an apparatus is known which can put a hook
automatically on a
snood but not on a fishing line. The snood has a head adapted to it which is
releasably
connected to the neck of a fishing hook. The hook is released each time the
fishing line is
hauled in and the hook neck is put through bait and then put on again.
SUMMARY OF INVENTION
The present invention automates the operation of putting both the snood into
the swivel of a
fishing line and into the eye of a fishing hook automatically and mechanically
with a
computerized device. The present invention can be operated automatically both
at land and
at sea and reduces labor as the hooks do not need to be taken off and the
snood does not need
to have an expensive device in order to connect the hook to it.
One aspect of the present invention relates to a method for automatically and
mechanically
inserting a snood into an eye of a hook and into a swivel eye fastened to a
fishing line. The
fishing line is drawn through the device until it stops on the swivel eye,
wherein the swivel
eye is aligned with a main eye of a stanchion. A steering pipe mounted in a
sledge and
movable within the main eye is aligned with the swivel eye and the eye of the
hook is aligned
with the swivel eye. Snood material from a snood material roller is directed
with a
controlling wheel through a control tube, which has a slit underneath, and
through the
steering pipe, swivel eye and hook eye to a grip holder, after which the end
of the snood
material is attached to the grip holder. A first loop is then formed with the
portion of snood

material going through the hook and the snood material end and the first loop
is closed with a
fastening device. The snood material end is then released from the grip holder
and the snood
material is pulled from the roller by a towing device to produce a sufficient
length. A second
loop of snood material is formed with the snood material fastened to the hook
and the snood
material pulled from the roller, after which the second loop is fastened and
the snood material
is cut.
Another aspect of the present invention relates to an apparatus for
automatically and
mechanically inserting snood material into an eye of a hook and into a swivel
eye fastened to
a fishing line. The apparatus has a main eye of a stanchion, located so that
the swivel eye is
aligned therewith, a steering pipe mounted in a sledge and movable within the
main eye and a
control tube having a slit underneath and aligned with the swivel eye. A snood
material roller
is aligned with the control tube and the apparatus further has a grip holder
for holding the end
of the snood material. A fastening device is provided for attaching fastening
members to the
snood material along with a towing device for pulling the snood material from
the roller and
a cutting device located beneath the sledge. The eye of the hook is aligned
with the swivel
eye.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Further details of the invention will be described with reference to the
following figures:
Fig. 1. shows the starting operation of the device;
Fig. 2. demonstrates the downthrust on the hook, which pulls the snood
material from the
roller;
Fig. 3. shows the snood towed in a selected length; and
Fig. 4. illustrates the snood stapled to the hook and the snood material has
been cut.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Figure 1 shows the end of the fishing line or mainline 1 alongside with a loop
2 that turns
around the fishing line 1, the loop being attached on a swivel 3. Snood
material end 6 is
pulled from the snood material roller 19 via controlling wheel 17 (preferably
a pressure
adjusted wheel). The controlling wheel or steering wheel 17 directs the snood
material 18 via
control tube 16, which has a slit underneath, and further via steering pipe
12, which is
mounted to an eye on sledge 13. The steering pipe 12 extends inside an oblong
eye (or main
eye) on stanchion 11 (a stand/plate) and is no thicker than the main eye. The
snood material

18 is then directed through swivel eye 4 and hook eye 5, located in front of
steering pipe 12,
to grip holder 7, which holds the snood material end 6 while the snood
material is fastened in
the hook eye 5. The apparatus also includes a hook 8, a steering rift 10 for a
towing device 9,
a cutting device or knife 14, a knife holder 15, fastening members 20 such as
staples, clamps
or links and a fastening device 21.
Figure 2 illustrates the device of Figure 1 with the towing process. Hook 8 is
pulled
downward by means of towing device 9 so the snood material 18 can be clamped
together by
a fastening device 21 in order to create a closed loop.
Figure 3 illustrates the device of Figures 1 and 2 with hook 8 attached via
the closed loop to
the snood material 18 while the snood material end 6 has been released from
the grip holder
7. The snood material is then pulled from the roller 19 by towing device 9 to
an ideal snood
length. In addition, the moveable sledge 13 has pulled the snood material 18
down beside the
portion of the snood material 18 that is now fastened to the hook 8 and thus
down through the
slit in control tube 16.
Figure 4 builds upon Figure 3 by illustrating the attachment of the fastening
member 20
around the loop of snood material 18 that is pulled through swivel eye 4.
Fastening device 21
attaches the fastening member 20, after which the sledge 13 travels downward
and the snood
material 18 is cut by knife 14 in the knife-holder 15.
Operation of the device involves drawing the fishing line I mechanically
through the device
until it stops on the swivel 3. The swivel eye 4 is directly in front of the
main eye or oblong
eye in the stanchion 11. Hook 8 is moved up to the swivel eye 4 so that the
hook 8 is
gripped and the hook eye 5 is put in front of the swivel eye 4.
It will be appreciated that all eyes, tubes, holes and pipes line up so that
the snood material
end 6 can be treaded through. Hook eye 5, swivel eye 4, the main eye in
stanchion 11, and
steering pipe 12 mounted in an eye in the moveable sledge 13 all line up.
The snood material end 6 from the roller 19 is thrust with controlling wheels
17 through the
control tube 16, which has a slit underneath, and through all the eyes, after
which the snood
material end 6 is fastened with a grip holder 7, which holds the snood
material end 6 fast

while the hook 8 is pulled down with the towing device 9 with its steering
rift 10 so that a
loop is produced by the snood material 18. In this manner the snood end is
stable but the
hook proceeds with the snood material on the pull down. Then the snood
material end 6 and
the snood material 18 are fastened together while the thrusting pin or grip
holder 7 that holds
the snood material end 6 comes loose and goes back into its original position
(Figure 2).
The hook 8 which is now fastened to the snood material 18 is drawn further
downward with
towing device 9 to produce sufficient length of snood between the hook and
fishing line. The
moveable sledge 13 with the steering pipe 12 inside the main eye moves down,
drawing the
snood material 18 from the roller 19 down beside the snood material 18
fastened to the hook
8 to produce a loop, which is then clamped or welded together, as shown in
Figure 3. With
this movement the snood material 18 is towed down and out through the slit in
the control
tube 16, while the controlling wheels 17 maintain a necessary hold and slack
on the snood
material 18.
As shown in Figure 4, the snood material 18 that is fastened to the hook 8 and
the snood
material 18 that is moved down with the sledge 13 are stapled or linked
together. The sledge
13 goes further down in the main eye of the stanchion 11 and the snood
material 18 is sawed
or cut with a knife 14 in a knife holder 15 resulting in no pull on the snood
material 18. The
snood material end 6 is free and with the assistance of the controlling wheels
17, the snood
material end 6 goes back into its original position and is ready for repeated
operation as the
fishing line 1 is towed through the device. The sledge 13 and steering pipe 12
are returned to
their original position, lined up with the swivel eye 4 and control tube 16.
This operation is repeated for each hook.
It will be appreciated by one skilled in the art that several elements may be
replaced by
equivalents in the art. For example, the snood material may also be yarn or
monofilament or
nylon. In addition, the clips may also be staples, clamps or links.
Accordingly, the clipping
device may also be a welding device, fusing device, staple device or any
similar device. The
fishing line may be referred to as a main line. The snood material can be
clamped, stapled,
clipped, welded or otherwise fastened in the eye of the hook. The grip holder
that holds the
end of the snood material may also be grip pliers or a thrusting pin.
