Disclosure:
The invention designed as a medicine dispensing pacifier is comprised of a two
piece unit which
requires a minimum assembly, resulting in a leakproof liquid medicine delivery
system, the
invention is a modified pacifier with an internal fluid delivery pathway and a
syringe, the two
pieces are united to make a flexible device that responds to the requirements
of a safe, accurate,
and ease of use in administering liquid medicine to a baby and small child's
oral cavity. Attempts
have been made to create an accurate way to dispense liquid medication to the
baby or small
child's oral cavity via use of measuring spoons, syringes, measuring dropper
or medicine
measuring cup, however none of these type devices are able to appease a fussy,
crying baby or
small child, and in trying to force feed said baby or small child usually
results in a less than
satisfactory effect. The medicine dispensing pacifier provides a comfort
factor in the delivery of
liquid medicine orally to baby or small child.
According to the invention is a medicine dispensing pacifier comprising the
integral of two
pieces combined with minimal assembly, and the result is a firm but flexible
unit who's function
is to dispense liquid medicine in a safe, accurate, and easy to use manner.
When attempting to
administer liquid medicine with a spoon, syringe, medicine measuring cup, or
dropper the baby
or small child must open the mouth creating a larger than necessary opening to
take said
medication, allowing opportunity for accurately dosed medicine to drip or
spill out resulting in
decreased recommended dosage administered, and if the care giver tries to
compensate for
spillage the baby or small child could be over medicated. With the medicine
dispensing pacifier
the baby or small child is comforted by the familiarity and feel of the
pacifier placed in the oral
cavity, when said baby or small child begins to suckle on the nipple, with
lips securely fitted
around said nipple, in a comfortable and natural manner, the invention is
placed part way down
into the oral cavity, with the accurately measured medication having being
primed and ready in
said invention can be gently administered with a clear, secure, unobstructed
pathway of treatment
and in so doing this device decreases the amount of air entering the stomach
thereby decreasing
abdominal discomfort.

The medicine dispensing pacifier is characterized by the modification in
introducing a flexible
silicone conduit tubing which is of similar type but not exclusive to
preexisting intravenous
tubing material currently on the market. The flexible silicone conduit tubing
is of uniform wall
thickness with a distal and proximal end, the proximal end is connecter to an
open hollow rigid
plastic polyvinyl chloride material type tube which has a uniform wall
thickness comprising of a
distal end, and with the proximal female end having a protruding notch to
assist with a fluid tight
friction fit connection when attached to the distal end of the fluid filled
syringe. The said
proximal end of conduit tubing and distal end of the said hollow tube are
adhered together via
suitable preexisting safe process such as heat, non toxic adhesive, or other
suitable method.
The medicine dispensing pacifier elongated flexible silicone single lumen
nipple with the flexible
silicone dispensing conduit tubing can be manufactured as a one or two piece
item. The one piece
nipple/conduit silicone manufacturing process being a uni-body system where
the nipple and
flexible conduit tubing are manufactured in a single molding. The two piece
manufacturing
process requires the silicone nipple and silicone conduit tubing being molded
separately then
fused together with a preexisting process such as heat, nontoxic adhesive or
other such suitable
method.
The medicine dispensing pacifier assembly body can be conveniently
manufactured by
commonly available preexisting suitable process. The body is molded in two
pieces the shield,
and collar assembly which when combined provide a unitary construction and
permanent anchor
to the proximal nipple wall as well as adequate opening for the flexible
silicone conduit tubing.
The shield is constructed of a stiff or rigid plastic material, flat or bowed
in shape with an
anterior opening in the center which can be round or elongated, adequate to
accommodate the
flexible silicone conduit tubing and the proximal edge of the flexible
silicone nipple wall, the
posterior side of the shield is spaced in opposed relation to the collar
assembly with spacing
adequate to accommodate the said proximal nipple wall, the said shield can be
clear, can have
any peripheral color or graphic. The collar assembly is constructed of a stiff
or rigid plastic
material open on the anterior side, having a flat parallel wall with an
opening in the center
adequate in diameter to accommodate the flexible silicone conduit tubing in
order to exit on the

posterior side. The anterior collar is spaced in opposing relation with the
posterior side of the
shield in order to allow a tight permanent assembly, with the proximal end of
the silicone nipple
wall sandwiched between the posterior shield and anterior collar assembly
sections. The
posterior shield, proximal nipple edge, and anterior collar assembly are fused
together with non
toxic adhesive, heat, or other such appropriate method or combination of.
The medicine dispensing pacifier syringe is latex free of common type that is
readily, and
conveniently available on the market. The locking ring at the distal end of
the syringe facilitates
digit manipulation, is configured such that the interior locking ring contains
threads which are
adapted to receive the protruding friction fit connection notch which is
exteriorly disposed on the
female proximal connector port, with a slight clockwise turn the locking ring
via friction fit
connects snugly the female connector port with the tapered male nozzle. The
elongated body of
the syringe is also the fluid receiving chamber with incremental marking for
accuracy. The
plunger is a seal ring made of rubber attached to the stem and moves in a
vertical direction
creating suction when moved in the proximal direction or ejecting contents
when moved distally.
The liquid medicine can be drawn into the syringe elongated body via the
tapered male nozzle
and ejected through the same port.
The medicine dispensing pacifier elongated flexible silicone nipple is held in
the baby or small
child's mouth between a middle section of the palate and tongue, on which said
baby or small
child exerts suction by movements of the upper and lower jaw, and tongue.
The medicine dispensing pacifier purpose and function is for administering
liquid medicine with
the use of a detachable latex free syringe into the oral cavity of a baby or
small child.
The preferred aspect of the invention medicine dispensing pacifier is the
flexible silicone conduit
tubing and hollow rigid plastic polyvinyl chloride tube with friction fit
connection notch defines
the pacifier fluid delivery pathway, from the distal end of the elongated
silicone nipple the said
pathway displacing through the body of the single lumen silicone nipple,
accommodated through
the shield, displacing through the collar assembly, and exiting a short
distance which allows the

said conduit flexibility and visual referencing on the posterior side of the
said collar prior to
connection to the distal end of the rigid hollow plastic polyvinyl chloride
tube with the proximal
female connector port having a notch which enables for a fluid tight, friction
fit connection with
the tapered male nozzle and tightening ring on the syringe.
The function of this invention medicine dispensing pacifier is to overcome the
problems with the
delivery of liquid medicine to a baby or small child, it allows an accurate
dosage unit to be
administered orally in a structurally simple, comfortable, easy to load,
reusable, and easy to clean
device.

Referring more in detail to the drawings, the present invention is made up of
two pieces, the
medicine dispensing pacifier and syringe.
Figure 1 shows a vertical longitudinal section of the invention embodied as a
medicine
dispensing pacifier is a slightly enlarged view of the natural size. The
silicone single lumen
nipple 1, encompassing the flexible silicone conduit tubing 3, to be fitted
into the mouth of a
baby or small child. Figure 8 shows the rear cross section of the modified
pacifier 30, has an
anterior opening in the center adequate to accommodate the flexible conduit
