An family boat that has couple of novelties regarding better comfort and privacy. First novelty is a cabin built on top of the boat bow, being used as a bathroom or other purposes. The area of boat bow is not used, being a wasted space. A cabin built on the top of bow using transparent materials will provide us with a cabin that can be used for different purposes and also will allow us to have visibility to drive the boat Another novelty is a foldable canopy that can provide an overhead shelter for different areas of the boat, or extended canopy that provides bigger overhead shelter or can provide fully enclosed space by canopy. Another novelty is a frame that supports canopy and allows canopy to provide all those features. All these improvements provide a simple boat with bathroom, overhead shelter or fully enclosed space as big as the boat itself.

Family boat
Description
Boats have been used for centuries for transportation, being part
of day to day life for many people across the world.
These days many families and individuals use boat for
recreational purpose.
There are expensive and heavy cruisers boats or yachts that
provide the owners with all comfort and privacy they want, that
include bathroom with toilet and shower, kitchen, bedroom,
cockpit with full boat controls .
Those boats are not for every one , they are expensive to
maintain too.
Most of the recreational boats are simple boats , not too big ,
easy to be towed by normal pickup trucks or smaller cars.
But those simple boats provide only a few seats or benches , a
stirring mechanism and maybe a little canopy.
There is not much comfort and privacy in a simple boat and also
the amount of time that can be spent aboard is limited.
Many boat builders or individuals tried to provide some comfort
on simple boats by using portable toilets or temporary changing
rooms, but this is just to little.
The main problem with providing comfort on a simple boat is
there is not enough space on boat.
Is very hard to find an area on a simple boat where it can be built
a full size permanent cabin to be used as a bathroom with toilet ,
shower ,sink.
My solution to this problem is to build a permanent cabin on top
of the bow of boat.
This cabin can be built entirely or partially of transparent
materials, so it will not impede visibility during boat driving.
Use of some curtains inside cabin will provide bathroom user
with privacy.

Many times families or individuals that go on water with a boat
get very often unpleasant surprises from weather.
Rain , wind, too strong sun or getting too cold are situations that
can occur wile a family is out there on water.
A simple boat has little or no protection against these unpleasant
weather situations.
My solution to protect boat users against weather problems is a
foldable canopy that provides different size overhead shelter.
Also the canopy can provide partially or fully enclosed space on
the boat, enclosing a part of the boat or entire boat.
Built from light , strong , water proof materials , the canopy will
not be a burden for the boat, but it will be a very useful
improvement of the boat providing shelter from elements and
even a room on a part of boat or as big as the boat, to
accommodate people for rest or over night.
It is very important that canopy during the use not to be in
people way, to impede people doing their activities on the boat.
My solution to have a strong canopy that stays out of people's
way is a frame that supports the canopy without using gunwales
of the boat for support.
There are only two spots where the frame for canopy is fastened
to the boat ; the top of the cabin that is built on boat bow and the
transom of boat.
When the canopy is partially extended, the frame is fastened
only to the top of bow cabin.
When the canopy is fully extended the frame is also fastened to
the transom through an U shape element that slides up and
down along transom.
The extension elements of the frame allow the canopy to extend
laterally .
When the canopy is used as a partial overhead shelter, the frame
that supports canopy has no contact with boat gunwales , so
people in the boat can do freely their activities .
Only when canopy is used as an overhead shelter over the entire
boat, the frame boat is fastened to the transom lateral ends
trough an U shape element that slides up and down along
transom.

Favorite embodiment of invention
Present invention delivers improved comfort and privacy to a
simple boat.
Bow cabin is a very useful feature for a boat because it makes it
possible to have a bathroom on boat.
The bow area of a boat is the front area of the boat where the
bottom of the boat is raising upwards and ends the boat floor.
This inclined area of boat bow can not be used as boat floor so
usually it remains unused.
On this inclined area of boat bow a cabin is built as shown in
Figure 1.
Cabin floor 1 is a raised floor , one step higher then boat floor.
This raised floor allows us to use the inclined bow area that is
bellow the cabin floor.
The size and shape of cabin floor is determined by shape an size
of the boat bow, and also by overall size of the boat.
Figure 1, 2 and 3 show how the shape of bow determines size
and shape of cabin floor.
The cabin built on boat bow accommodates a person that
stands up 4 and bathroom equipment 3 .
Walls or part of walls of the cabin are built from transparent
materials , so boat driver has good visibility trough cabin.
The top of the cabin can be built extended over a part of the boat
to form an overhead shelter like in figure 14.
The canopy is a foldable canopy that is unfolded in different
stages, so it provides the boat with shelter of different sizes and
enclosed spaces.
The parts of canopy that would form vertical walls of enclosed
spaces can be unfolded horizontally so they form an extended
overhead shelter.
Figure 4 shows the canopy unfolded only over a part of top of
the boat so it provides an overhead shelter. The canopy is
supported by a frame that is fastened to the top of cabin built on
top of bow.
Figure 5 shows the canopy unfolded over the entire length of
boat and is supported at the back of boat by U shape frame
element fastened to transom ends.
The canopy can be unfolded even farther along the boat as is
shown in figure 6. The part of canopy that would form the

CA 02755146 2011-10-19
8
vertical wall of enclosed space at the back of the boat, extends
horizontally over the transom so boat is provided with a bigger
overhead shelter.
Figure 7 , 8 and 9 show that the parts of canopy that would form
vertically walls of enclosed spaces are unfolded horizontally over
the gunwales providing an overhead shelter with an area way
bigger then boat itself .
Enclosed space on the boat is obtained by unfolding the canopy
downwards and it is fastened to gunwales and to floor of the
boat as in figure 10.
The canopy can provide enclosed space on a part of boat or as
big as the entire boat like in figure 11.
When the canopy provides enclosed space on a part of boat, the
canopy also can provide overhead shelter on the other part of
the boat.
The boat that has built a cabin on its bow and has the canopy that
provides overhead shelter and enclosed spaces can be used for
long time travels or live-in overnight so an easier access in boat
is provided by a hull door 11 in figure 12.
The frame that supports canopy is represented in figure 14.
Main elements 15 that are installed overhead along boat and are
fastened to the top of the bow cabin.
Main elements 15 are extended with extension elements 18.
Extension elements 18 are supported at the other end by frame
element 10.
One of main goal of this frame, beside supporting the canopy is
to has as few as possible connection points with gunwales, to
avoid impeding boat user activities.
So for this purpose frame element 10 will be place at very back
of boat.
Extension elements 18 are extended with extension elements 19
that are extending outside of gunwales.
There are across boat installed main elements 14 that are
extended with extension elements 17.
The top of the cabin can be built extended along the boat to form
an hard top for the boat like in figure 14. Also the hard top will
be a fastening spot for the canopy frame.
