BAGGAGE WITH SHELF ASSEMBLY AND SLIDING LID
=
TECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] The present disclosure relates to baggage.
BACKGROUND
[0002] The following paragraphs are not an admission that anything
discussed in
them is prior art or part of the knowledge of persons skilled in the art.
[0003] United States Patent No. 7,207,426 describes a luggage item that is
convertible from a duffle bag form to a garment bag form by disengaging duffle
end
panels from the lateral sides of the garment bag and folding those end panels
against
the inside of the garment bag. Various arrangements of handles and carry
straps are
disclosed which facilitate transport of the luggage item as a duffle bag or a
garment bag.
[0004] United States Patent No. 8,235,206 describes a reusable bag for
laundry
and laundry hangers. The reusable bag includes an enclosure made from a
flexible web
material having an open end and a closed end. The open end has a closure
means, while
the closed end includes an aperture adapted to receive a portion of each
laundry hanger
therethrough. With the open end of the enclosure facing upward in a hamper
configuration, dirty laundry may be collected and, when the bag is full, the
open end of
the enclosure may be selectively closed with the closure means. The reusable
bag may
be transported to a laundry cleaning facility by carrying with a handle strap,
and
returned with clean laundry hanging on the laundry hangers inside the
enclosure. The
closed end of the enclosure may be facing upward in a garment bag
configuration for
protecting the clean laundry.
[0005] United States Patent Application Publication No. 20100213020
describes a
duffel bag with inner removable panels that can be configured with a large
main space
or a central space and end spaces. The removable panels can zip up into place
to divide
the bag into a central space and end spaces, or can be unzipped and rolled up
to create

one large space or two sections. A main flap closure provides access to the
central space,
and end openings with zipper closures provide access to the end spaces. The
bag can be
available in a range of sizes and styles.
[0006] United States Patent Application Publication No. 14058133 describes
a bag
with a shelf assembly that is affixed to an internal surface of the body. The
shelf
assembly is moveable between a collapsed position in which the shell assembly
is
housed within the main compartment, and an extended position in which the
shelf
assembly is arranged for use outside the main compartment. A volume ratio of
the shelf
assembly relative to the interior of the main body may be variable, and may
depend on
the articles being stored in the shelf assembly and/or the main body. The main
flap
seals the shelves and their contents inside the main compartment when in the
collapsed
position. The bag also may have a deployable container that is affixed to the
opening of
a bottom flap.
INTRODUCTION
[0007] The following paragraphs are intended to introduce the reader to
the
more detailed description that follows and not to define or limit the claimed
subject
matter.
[0008] According to an aspect of the present disclosure, a bag may
include: a
shelf assembly comprising a top wall, a bottom wall, and at least one shell
arranged
between the top and bottom walls; and a lid flap comprising a first end
coupled to the
top wall of the shelf assembly, and extending about the shelf assembly to a
second end,
the lid flap moveable between a closed position in which the second end lies
adjacent to
the top wall thereby generally covering the shelf assembly, and an open
position in
which the shelf assembly is generally exposed for use.
[0009] According to an aspect of the present disclosure, a bag may indude:
a
shelf assembly comprising a top wall, a bottom wall, and at least one shelf
arranged
between the top and bottom walls; and a lid flap comprising a first end
coupled to the

top wall of the shelf assembly, and extending about the shelf assembly to a
second end,
the lid flap moveable between a closed position in which the second end lies
adjacent to
the top wall thereby generally covering the shelf assembly, and an open
position in
which the shelf assembly is generally exposed for use.
[0010] Other
aspects and features of the teachings disclosed herein will become
apparent, to those ordinarily skilled in the art, upon review of the following
description
of the specific examples of the present disclosure.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0012] Various apparatuses or methods are described below to provide an
example of an embodiment of each claimed invention. No example described below
limits any claimed invention and any claimed invention may cover apparatuses
and
methods that differ from those described below. The claimed inventions are not
limited
to apparatuses and methods having all of the features of any one apparatus or
method
described below or to features common to multiple or all of the apparatuses or
methods
described below. It is possible that an apparatus or method described below is
not an
embodiment of any claimed invention. Any invention disclosed in an apparatus
or
method described below that is not claimed in this document may be the subject
matter
of another protective instrument, and the applicant(s), inventor(s) and/or
owner(s) do
not intend to abandon, disclaim or dedicate to the public any such invention
by its
disclosure in this document.
[0013] FIGS. 1 to 4 show a bag 100 according to a first example of the
present
disclosure. The bag 100 takes the form of a messenger bag with a shoulder
strap 112.
[0014] Referring now to FIG. 1, the bag 100 includes a lid flap 188, which
is
shown in a closed position. Clasps are shown for maintaining the lid flap 188
in the
closed position.
[0015] Referring to FIG. 2, the lid flap 188 is shown in an open position.
The lid
flap 188 includes a first end 190 and a second end 192. The bag 100 includes a
sleeve
194, and the lid flap 188 extends through the sleeve. The first end 190 of the
lid flap 188
is coupled to a top wall 132 of a shelf assembly (not yet shown). The lid flap
188 extends
around the shelf assembly, and, in the closed position (shown in FIG. 1), the
second end
192 lies adjacent to the top wall 132, thereby generally covering the shelf
assembly when
it is in a collapsed position. Top flaps 196 are releasably joined to the top
wall 132.
[0016] Referring to FIG. 3, the top flaps 196 are shown released and
pivoted
upwardly relative to the top wall 132. Hooks 136 are pivotally connected to
the top flaps
196, and, once released, pivot upwardly in a position for hanging the bag 100.

[0017] The shelf assembly 122 includes the top wall 132, a bottom wall 198,
and
shelves 126 arranged between the top and bottom walls 132, 198. The shelf
assembly 122
is shown in a suspended position.
[0018] With reference to both FIGS. 2 and 3, the lid flap 188 in the open
position
may slide relative to the sleeve 194 to permit physical separation between the
top and
bottom walls 132, 198. The shelf assembly 122 may therefore move between the
collapsed and suspended positions.
[0019] FIG. 4 shows a laundry carrier 144 coupled to the sleeve 194. The
laundry
carrier 144 includes a flexible sack 146 having a releasably closeable slit
170. This
embodiment illustrates the laundry carrier may be accessed when the separately
releasably closeable lid 138 is in the open position by means of the zipper
142.
[0020] While the above description provides examples of one or more
apparatuses or methods, it will be appreciated that other apparatuses or
methods may
be within the scope of the accompanying claims.
