EDIBLE REPELLENT COMPOSITION
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
1. Field of the Invention
[0001] The present invention relates generally to the field of pest
repellents and more
specifically relates to an edible pest repellent composition particularly for
consumption by
animals.
2. Description of the Related Art
[0002] Many insects and arachnids are regarded as pests to animals, humans,
and plants as
many of them carry disease-causing pathogens. Particularly, flies, mosquitos
and ticks are of
concern as they are known to carry dangerous diseases such as typhoid,
cholera, dengue fever,
malaria, valley fever, Lyme disease, etc. Not only this, but these pests tend
to be a great
nuisance to animals and humans. This is especially true with flies and ticks.
Ticks live by
feeding on the blood of mammals, and as such, they often attach themselves to
a host, which is
typically an animal such as a horse or a dog. This is not only stressful for
the animal and animal
owner but is also time-consuming as the tick must be removed by the animal
owner or a
veterinarian. Due to this, the problem can also be costly if a veterinarian is
needed to remove
the ticks. Further, flies are particularly attracted to horse stables, causing
not only a great
annoyance to the horse and owner but also causing stress and potential
infection.
[0003] Thus, a need exists for a reliable pest repellent composition to
avoid the above-
mentioned problems.

Date Recue/Date Received 2022-03-15

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[00010] The present invention advantageously fills the aforementioned
deficiencies by
providing a repellent composition configured for repelling pests. The present
invention is
superior to other systems in that it effectively repels pests such as insects,
arachnids, and the
like.
[00011] The repellent composition may include a mixture consisting of at least
an amount
of rock salt, particularly Himalayan rock salt; and an amount of garlic.
Preferably, the mixture
may be an edible mixture. The edible mixture may contain an "effective" amount
of both the
rock salt and the garlic such that after consumption of the repellent
composition by a consumer,
pests are at least substantially repelled from the consumer. In use, the
consumer may consume
a predetermined amount of the edible mixture containing the amount of rock
salt and the
amount of garlic, the predetermined amount of the edible mixture collectively
containing an
effective dose of the rock salt and the garlic such that after consumption of
the repellent
composition by a consumer, pests are at least substantially repelled from the
consumer.
[00012] The features of the invention which are believed to be novel are
particularly pointed
out in the specification. The present invention now will be described more
fully hereinafter
with reference to the accompanying drawings, which are intended to be read in
conjunction
with both this summary, the detailed description and any preferred and/or
particular
embodiments specifically discussed or otherwise disclosed. This invention may,
however, be
embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as limited to the
embodiments
set forth herein; rather, these embodiments are provided by way of
illustration only and so that
this disclosure will be thorough, complete and will fully convey the full
scope of the invention
to those skilled in the art.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[00013] The present invention is directed to a repellent composition. The
repellent
composition is used to repel pests, or at least substantially repel pests. For
example, the
repellent composition may repel insects such as flies, arachnids such as
ticks, and the like. The
repellent composition may be particularly useful for animals. Preferably, the
repellent
composition may be used with horses for repelling flies and ticks therefrom.
However, the
repellent composition is not limited to horses, nor is it limited to animals.
[00014] Referring now to the drawings, there is shown in FIGS. 1-4 various
views of a
repellent composition pre-mixed and provided in a receptacle. In one
embodiment of the
present invention, the repellent composition may comprise an edible mixture.
The edible
mixture may be provided in various states of matter. For example, the edible
mixture may be a
powder, a liquid, a paste, or the like. Further, in some embodiments, the
state of matter may
depend on consumer of the edible mixture. For instance, a liquid may be easier
to consume for
some animals, a powder may be easier for others, etc.
[00015] The edible mixture may consist of at least an amount of rock salt
and an amount
of garlic. It should be appreciated that the edible mixture is not limited to
just rock salt and
garlic, and that in some embodiments other additional ingredients may be
added. Preferably,
the rock salt contemplated for the edible mixture may be Himalayan rock salt.
The Himalayan
rock salt may preferably be crushed. This may allow the Himalayan rock salt to
be consumed
easier, particularly when being consumed by an animal. For example, in some
embodiments,
the Himalayan rock salt may be crushed into a fine powder.
Date Recue/Date Received 2022-03-15

[00016] Preferably, the garlic may be granulated garlic. However, it should be
appreciated
that in some embodiments the garlic may be provided in other forms. For
example, garlic cloves
may be crushed and formed into a paste; may be cut into chunks; may be grated;
may be
extracted into a liquid or oil mixture, or the like. The Himalayan rock salt
and the garlic, in
whatever forms desired, may then be mixed to create the repellent composition.
[00017] Preferably, the edible mixture may contain an "effective" amount of
both the
Himalayan rock salt and the garlic such that after the consumer consumes the
edible mixture,
pests (again, such as flies and ticks), are at least substantially repelled
from the consumer. The
repellent effect of the repellent composition may be instant or may require a
certain amount of
time to take effect. Further, the repellent effect may last for a certain
amount of time. These
times may vary on amount of the edible mixture consumed, type of consumer,
etc.
[00018] In some embodiments, the edible mixture may consist of a predetermined
amount
of the Himalayan rock salt and the garlic. In addition, the edible mixture may
be given in
predetermined doses. For example, in some embodiments, a dose may be a 25-gram
scoop of
the edible mixture every day. In each scoop of the edible mixture, there may
be 14 grams of
garlic and 11 grams of Himalayan rock salt. In some embodiments, the
"effective" amount of
both the Himalayan rock salt and the garlic may vary depending on dose, type
of consumer,
etc. As such, amounts of the Himalayan rock salt and the garlic in the edible
mixture may vary
in some embodiments and doses of the edible mixture may be given depending on
type of
consumer, weight of consumer, etc. For example, a small dog may need less of
the edible
mixture than a horse.
[00019] In use, the consumer may consume a predetermined amount of the edible
mixture
containing the amount of rock salt and the amount of garlic, the predetermined
amount of the
Date Recue/Date Received 2022-03-15

edible mixture containing an effective dose of the rock salt and the garlic
such that after
consumption of the repellent composition by a consumer, pests are at least
substantially
repelled from the consumer.
[00020] The exact specifications, materials used, and method of use of the
repellent
composition may vary upon manufacturing. In some embodiments, the repellent
composition
may be provided pre-mixed in receptacles (as shown in FIGS. 1-4). In other
embodiments, the
repellent composition may be provided as a kit including the Himalayan rock
salt and the garlic
for selectively mixing. As such, in some embodiments, a method of use may be
disclosed that
includes the consumer, or another user (such as an animal owner) mixing
amounts of the
Himalayan rock salt and the garlic.
[00021] Further,
whilst the edible mixture is the preferred embodiment of the present
repellent composition and consumption of the edible mixture is the preferred
method of use of
the present repellent composition, it should be appreciated that in some
embodiments the
repellent composition may not be edible and/or the repellent composition may
be used other
than via consumption of the same. For example, the repellent composition may
be used
topically. In this example, the repellent composition may be a cream, a balm,
a gel, a spray, or
the like.
[00022] The foregoing descriptions of specific embodiments of the present
invention have
been presented for purposes of illustration and description. They are not
intended to be
exhaustive or to limit the present invention to the precise forms disclosed,
and obviously many
modifications and variations are possible in light of the above teaching. The
exemplary
embodiment(s) were chosen and described in order to best explain the
principles of the present
invention and its practical application, to thereby enable others skilled in
the art to best utilize

the present invention and various embodiments with various modifications as
are suited to the
particular use contemplated.
