Abstract of the Disclosure
A mobile crop baler for producing large bales, has a receiving
drum for receiving crop material picked up from the field and transporting
it into a baling chamber substantially enclosed by lateral walls and by
driven baling rollers, or belts. The baling chamber has an opening for
receiving the material delivered by the receiving drum, and in the area of
the opening is an additional conveying member coordinated with the receiving
drum, which transports the crop material into the baling chamber. The
conveying member comprises a series of controlled teeth which project
upwardly through the crop material to be conveyed, and are driven by a
crank assembly which is drivingly connected to the shaft of the receiving

drum.

Revendications

Note : Les revendications sont présentées dans la langue officielle dans laquelle elles ont été soumises.

THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE
PROPERTY OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:

1. A mobile crop baler for producing large bales, comprising a baling
chamber for the forming of large rolled bales of crop material, a receiving
drum for receiving the material picked up from the field and transporting it
into the baling chamber, said baling chamber being substantially enclosed by
lateral walls and by driven baling rollers or belts and having an opening
for receiving crop material delivered by the receiving drum, a rake structure
bridging the distance between said receiving drum and said opening, said
crop baler including in the area of said opening an additional conveying
member which is coordinated with the receiving drum and is adapted to feed
crop material into the baling chamber, said additional conveying member being
disposed behind the receiving drum when viewed in the direction of conveyance
of the material and comprising at least one controlled tooth adapted to pro-
ject upwardly through the crop material to be conveyed and constrained to
move in a cyclical path between prongs of said rake structure, said tooth
being projected above said rake structure and advanced towards the opening
during a first portion of said path, being retracted below said rake struc-
ture and moved towards said receiving drum during a second portion of said
path, and in an intermediate portion of said path between said first and
second portions, said tooth being positioned within said opening and moving
in the peripheral direction of said baling chamber.

2. A mobile crop baler according to claim 1, wherein the conveying
member is adapted to be driven by means of a crank assembly which includes
a crank shaft drivingly connected with a shaft of the receiving drum.

3. A mobile crop baler according to claim 1, wherein the conveying
member is adapted to be driven by means of a crank assembly which includes
a crank shaft drivingly connected with a shaft of the receiving drum, and

wherein there is a plurality of said teeth spaced across said opening, said
crank assembly including a shaft which passes through bearing means associ-
ated with each of said teeth.

Description

Note : Les descriptions sont présentées dans la langue officielle dans laquelle elles ont été soumises.

This invention relates to a mobile crop baler for producing large
bales of crop material.
- Conventional presses for producing circular bales are constructed
in such a fashion that the compressed material is pushed by either the
receiving drum or a pick-up, directly into the compression chamber, or is
drawn in by preli~inary press rollers. In either case diferent materials
such as a moist crop or short and compact material cause interruptions in
that the receiving drum becomes clogged or the material slides along the
- rollers without being drawn in. Even more serious problem~s result when the
'; 10 operating width oE the pick-up is substantially larger than the width of the
; ~ bale chamber so that the material collected by the pick~up has to be com-
pressed laterally.
The present invention, provides a mobile crop baler for producing
~, large bales, comprising a baling chamber for the forming of large rolled

receiving drum and said opening, said crop baler incIuding in the area of
said opening an additional conveying member which is coordinated with the
~ receiving drum and is adapted to feed crop material into the baling chamber,
ç said additional conveying member being disposed behind the receiving drum
when viewed in the direction of conveyance of the material and comprising at

baling chamber.
According to a preferred feature of this invention, the additional
conveying member is adapted to be driven by means of a crallk assembly. The
crank shaft of the crank assembly is connected with the shaft of the receiv-
ing drum e.g. by a chain drive. A rake disposed between the receiving drum
and the first winding roller of the baling chamber prevents ~he crop mater-
ial from dropping. The conveying teeth are assembled in such a fashion
that they extend between the prongs of the rake. I`he

joint movement of all of ths conveying teeth is achieved through the crank
shaft provided with angularly bent ends and supporting an axle which is
rotatably connected wi~h all of the teeth.
The present invention will further be described, by way of example
only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a mobile press for ]arge bales~
Figure 2 an enlarged fragmentary cross-sectional view of the press.
The frame 1 of a press for producing large bales is supported on
.~
ground wheels 2. ~he frame 1 includes side walls 3 which enclose a series

lo winding rollers 4. The side walls 3 and the winding rollers 4 define the
winding or baling chamber 5. The winding rollers 4 are each adapted to
be driven at one end in the direction of arrow X, by means not shown.
e crop material is picked up from the field by a receiving drum
6 and transported through an opening 7 into the winding or baling chamber
5. The space between the receiving drum 6 and the opening 7 is bridged by
means of a rake 8. Teeth 9 projecting between the prongs of the rake are
driven through a crank assembly 10. The crank shaft 11 of the crank assembly
10 is drivingly connected to the shaft 12 of the receiving drum 6 by means
of a chain 13. The crank shaft 11 is provided at either end with a crank
14. These cranks are interconnected by an axle 15 which passes through

,
bearings attached to the teeth 9 so that all of the teeth are automatically
jointly controlled. The lower ends of the teeth 9 are movably connected to
intermediate members 17 which are movably disposed on an axle 18. me crop
material delivered by the receiving drum 6 is compressed by the teeth 9
projecting upwardly through the rake 8, the teeth following a path l9 ~hown
in Figure 2 in a dash-dot line. The material is thus fed into the baling
chamber. The crop material cannot bunch up, for example, in front of the
baling rollers 20 and 21 of the baling chamber, not even if the material to be
harvested is rather wet.
