COMPOSITION FOR TREATING BURNS

A topical composition for treating burns, skin infections and the like
and for protecting the skin against sunburn, and a method for making such compo-
sition. The composition is made by simmering approximately equal amounts of
chicken feces and an unguent such as Crisco (T.M.) shortening, and then filtering
the mixture and cooling it to room temperature.

Revendications

THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE
PROPERTY OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:

1. A topical composition for treating burns comprising an effective
amount of a derivative from chicken feces and an unguent carrier, the composition
being prepared by simmering a mixture of the unguent and chicken feces, filtering
the mixture and cooling it to room temperature.


2. A composition according to claim 1, wherein the unguent is a Crisco
(T.M.) shortening.


3. A composition according to claim 1 or 2, obtained from simmering approxi-
mately equal amounts of the unguent and chicken feces.


4. A method of making topical composition for treating burns which comprises
simmering a mixture of an unguent and chicken feces, filtering the mixture and
cooling it to room temperature.


5. A method according to claim 4, wherein the unguent is Crisco (T.M.)
shortening.


6. A method according to claim 4 or 5, wherein approximately equal amounts
of unguent and chicken feces are simmered.


7. A method according to claim 4 or 5, wherein approximately equal amounts
of unguent and chicken feces are simmered for about 15 minutes, stirring constant-
ly.

This invention relates to a new compo.sition for treating burns and to
a method for its preparation. Topical ointments having active ingredients with
medicinal value have in the past been prepared from animal extracts of various
kinds. It is believedhowever that there has been little or no attention given in
the past to obtaining derivatives having medicinal value from chicken feces.
According to the present invention, it has been surprisingly found that
chicken feces are a source of an active ingredient which has positive curative
effects when applied topically to burns, and which also assists in preventing sun-
burn. This composition may also be useful in combatting different types of skin
infections.
According to the present invention, a topical composition for treating
burns comprising an effective amount of this active ingredient is made from chicken
feces and an appropriate unguent, the composition being prepared by simmering a
mixture of the unguent and chicken feces and filtering the mixture and cooling it
to room temperature. Crisco (T.M.) shortening has been used effectively as the
unguent.
At the present time the identity of the active ingredient or ingredients
from the chicken feces is unknown. As well, the precise range of amounts of the
active ingredient in the composition to constitute an effective amount for the
desired purpose or purposes is not known with certainty. As will be seen from the
following description, a composition containing the effective ingredient has been
prepared using approximately equal amounts of chicken feces and unguent, and the re-
sultant composition has been observed to have a surprising curative effect on burns
on which the composition has been applied.
PREPARATION
Approximately equal amounts of chicken Eeces and Crisco (T.M.) shortening
were simmered together for about fifteen minutes while stirring constantly. The
composition was then filtered through cotton cloth into a container and allowed

- to cool to room temperature.

APPLICATION
The composition thus prepared i8 applied liberally to a burned area
of skin, and a medical bandage made of cotton is wrapped about this area to
cover it for about two days. On the third day more of the co~position is applied
to the burn and the burn was not bandaged further.
A surprisingly rapid healing leaving relatively little scar tissue
has taken place when such a composition has been used to treat human skin burns.
The composition according to the present invention has also been effec-
tive in reducing sunburn and assisting tanning, when applied to the skin before
a person is exposed to intensive sunshine. It has also appeared to assist in cur-
ing skin infections.
While the present invention has been described in conjunction with
specific embodiments thereof, it is evident that many alternatives, modifications
and variations will be apparent to those skilled in the art in light of the fore-
going description. Accordingly it is intended to embrace all such alternatives,
modifications and variations as fall within the spirit and broad scope of the
appended claims.
