Abrégés

Abrégé anglais

The patent sought is for exclusive rights to the idea of having a piece of
real wood with the
words "Knock On Wood" on it attached to a key chain and having the said piece
of wood
recognized as The Knock On Wood Lucky Charm Medallion. We advise that we are
not
seeking or claiming copyright or trade-mark rights to the words "Knock On
Wood" no more
than anyone can claim exclusive rights to the words God Bless" that are found
on a variety
of numerous products. Therefore, we feel our request in using said words in
conjunction
with The Knock On Wood Lucky Charm Key Chain invention patent being sought is
reasonable and just.
The Knock On Wood Lucky Charm Key Chain has no particular function other then
holding
keys like the average key chain; it is merely a novelty item that is intended
to be
recognized as a lucky charm adhering to the superstition of "knock on wood",
which is the
American version of the British "touch wood:.

The Knock On Wood Lucky Charm Key Chain
DESCRIPTION 8~ DRAWING
Invention ! Description:
~ The wooden Knock On Wood Lucky Charm Medallion.
~ The words "Knock On Wood" are on the front of the wooden
medallion.
~ 10 mm brass jump
ring.

~ 5 figure 8" style
brass finks.

~ 24 mm brass split
ring.

~ Artifiaal green
leaves.

Made from a piece of real natural wood cut from a
tree branch the size of the round shaped ~wooden
medallion is approximately'/ inch (.5 cm) in
thickness and ranges from approximately 1 inch
(2.54 centimeters) to 3 inches (7.62 centimeters) in
diameter. The ~words "Knock On Wood" are written
on the front of the wooden medallion and the
mwooden medallion is covered with a clear varnish.
Attached to the ~wooden medallion is a key chain
consisting of a ~10 mm brass jump ring, ~5 "figure
8" style brass links (each approximately 12 mm in
diameter) and a ~24 mm brass split ring to hold the
keys. Along the top where the ~wooden medallion
meets the ~10 mm brass jump ring is a small strand
(approximately 2 cm in length) of ~artificial green
leaves for decoration.
The origin of the "knock on wood" or "touch wood" superstition is not clear
and versions vary
when it's researched. Some say that the Irish believed that you should
"knoclrr on woodu to
let the little people know that you are thanking them for a bit of good
fortune. Some writers
have pointed to pre-Christian rituals involving the spirits of sacred trees
such as the oak,
ash, holly or hawthorn. To "touch wood" is a superstitious action taken to
ward off any evil
consequences for boasting and it implies an unspoken hope for continued
success. The
Knock On Wood Lucky Charm Key Chain is unique in that each piece of wood used
to
construct The Knock On Wood Lucky Charm Medallion is real and therefore no 2
pieces
are ever the same just as no 2 individual persons are the same. This is the
concept that
makes and will continue to make this lucky charm extraordinary and authentic
in nature.
